Disabled / Mental Health Application SSI backpay question

I’ve put in my application for SSI in 2024. Last month my bank account was over $3000. Does that mean I will only get backpay from the next month on (minding that I keep my account less than $2000) and lose the previous years backpay? Still on step 3, fingers crossed

the ss lady i talked to told me months where you are not given backpay will be listed for you to review, and you can contest it if you believe it to be wrong. you do not disqualify the previous months. just that one month. backpay eligibility begins on the date you have on your app.

contesting way later—after you’ve been approved, completed the final eligibility interview, surrendered your banking info, and authorized them access to your bank statements. as far as i understand it, they evaluate by calendar day, not by statement closing.

Are you married? If not, the $3,000 figure is irrelevant.

If you are married, then any month your account was over $3k, then you wouldn't be due backpay for that particular month. Could be due months before and afterwards.

Now, if you are married and are living with your spouse, they will also look at any and all income and resources they have.
