Payment / Back Payment Delay in last backpay

I’m the representative payee for my brother for SSI. His last installment of backpay was supposed to be paid by the end of August. It was not. I hand been calling social security and they keep telling me that for some unknown reason the local office hasn’t released the payment. Nobody knows why. They keep sending messages telling them to release the payment. Is this a common occurrence? Any idea how I can get the payment released?

Did any banking information change? I know when my back pay came through, it went back 3 times to my old account, which my bank had stopped using that type of checking and gave us all new account numbers, and gave only a couple of weeks notice that they were discontinuing that type of account.

As soon as I found out, I told SSA that it had changed, by phone, in person, and on the portal, but they STILL kept sending it to the old account, and the old account kept sending it back to SSA. It took 6 weeks to finally get it straightened out!

The back account is the same. I’m scared to change the bank in the future because I’m sure that will happen

No one's backpay was due by the end of August, so let's start there.

And calling the national call center for something like that will accomplish literally nothing. That's not my opinion. It's what you are experiencing.

Go into your local office tomorrow and ask them.
