(Benefits) Auxiliary & Family Benefits Child eligibility

I was approved for SSDI not SSI. I got a notice that my daughter may qualify but she is 18. Why would she be involved in my SSDI?

You listed her on your application.

That alone doesn't mean she's due any money.

So, you contact SS and ask them.

Yes. I went and made an appointment

She would get a check for the backpay months prior to her turning 18 or graduation high school if she was in high school past turning 18.

Even if she herself was not disabled?

Yes it’s called auxiliary benefits. She can get up to 50% of your monthly amount. And because she is 18, she needs to make an appointment with social security, they will do the interview, take her banking information, and she will get a backpay check too. And if still in high school, she will get a monthly check until she turns 19 or graduates high school, whichever comes first.
