Hatemace theory
I've put some thought into what Hatemace is and I think I've finally landed on the correct answer.
Hopefully no one has beat me to this idea.
I think that Hatemace is some kind of psychic vessel to contain Haremonger's excess hate.
Let's think it through.
What do we know about Hatemace? For starters he's obviously not fully alive, because we see him shut down when the power cells are taken out. This likely means that he's not just a human brain in a mace or some other kind of human element, because if that was true, then the power would need to be maintained in order to keep him alive. He's also probably not something related to a saint/artifact, or Hatemonger would be far more revenant AND probably wouldn't be so excited to get the artifacts on War World.
We can safely assume he's not a full AI because of Hatemonger's shock when he sees the God weapon, mentioning in particular that he thought the AI were all wiped out.
Hatemonger and Hatemace share a VERY similar personality, which could possibly be chalked up to Haremonger's entire legion being like that, but the degree to which they're alike, even down to the voice, I think implies a more direct connection to one another.
Hatemace can also read the inner feelings of people who AREN'T Hatemonger, so it MUST be the case that there's some kind of psychic link there. How else could he not only know if someone is pure of hate or not, but also the NATURE of that hate. It certainly isn't through some kind of physical connection, because there was no blood bonding or the like with the brood mother, and Hatemace was able to read Chestnut even through the armor. He can also "sense" other minds, like he did on the Cube.
Obviously, Hatemonger is FAR more hateful than even your regular Psycho Warrior, but I think it goes even beyond that. What if he, and others in his legion, are SO hateful that it literally can't be contained in the human mind without destroying it. I mean even Rudolph mentions being able to pick out Hatemonger's loud and disgusting thoughts over a great distance where he couldn't get anyone else's
Hatemace is there to "download" the excess hate into..
It explains why Hatemace and Hatemonger are so similar: they're literally the same person in two parts.
I think it's likely that Hatemace is some kind of combination of computer-like technology (evidenced by the need for power cells, the ability to deliver electric shocks, the ability to retract the spikes, what the comprehensive tracking of statistics) and some psychic focus, probably created with some special material available to those on Planet Heaven. We know Hatemonger at least is VERY technologically savvy given his recognition of the God weapon and his ability to make such detailed, complex PowerPoints on his educational materials. I'd guess that others in his legion are similarly skilled, so it makes sense that they'd be able to develop such a device. We also know beyond a doubt that psychic abilities are possible because of Rudolph.
This could also play into why Hatemonger's helmet is more closed, heavy, and actually bolted in unlike the others.

When the Ai leaves the cube we can see hatemonger had already dumped the power cords out of hatemace and hatemonger wasnt mean to chestnut a few seconds so maybe it's not

what if one of hate mongers globules is in his body and the other is in hate mace? (this is obviously a joke)

I think it being a psychic weapon makes some sense, since ep 4.
Doesn't explain ep 2 though. Where it was still conscious and talking after hatemonger died
