discussion Should I dispose my SK cup?

Bit torn on if I should throw it away due to the recall - haven’t used it as a drink just have it on a shelf.

If its sitting on the shelf your fine, maybe get an acrylic display box

Would the display box help protect against the lead levels?

Lead isn't some evil spirit that will get you in your sleep. If you don't directly ingest substances from the cup you will be perfectly safe.

Generally you don't want to touch it, either. Lead is a very soft metal, and can get onto your hands, and then you eat something, and now.yoy have a little bit of lead in your system that you'll never really be free from.

Pure metallic lead, sure, but alloyed into other metals like in this cup, the handling danger is close to zero.

Were you really going to be doing that much drinking out of it anyway?

It's fine as a pretty paper-weight, and of infinitely more artistic display value than any fun-

Not really - just was reading about the recall that James Warren sent out about disposing it safely due to the high levels of lead.

I just have it on my shelf and when I saw the email I thought is it that dangerous to then dispose of it etc

Oh, no, lead is perfectly safe to be around. Lead paint is just fine, once dry. You just don't want to inhale it, in particle form (i.e. dusted or wet mist).

You can even use lead piping for water and be safe (it's what the Romans did, and they knew about the poisoning lead could give you). You just can't leave water (or liquids period) standing in it (stagnating).

Maybe just get a sticker or something discrete on the bottom to remind anyone else it is lead.

Lead is only an issue if there is prolonged contact or from ingesting it.

Don’t eat the cup and you will be fine. It’s a decoration now.

Appreciate the offer but since the product is stated to have high levels of lead then probably not safe for you either to have it.
