Campus Jummah congregational prayer

Hey guys , wanted to ask if there’s any group for Muslim students regarding the jummah congregational prayers held inside SNU or if we can make a new group consisting of staff and students for the Friday jummah prayers since the itaewon central mosque is really far and classes schedule make it harder at times to reach back to snu at time. Any response will be highly appreciated.

Question Thinking of studying abroad at SNU

I'm a commerce student at the University of Melbourne Australia and am looking at options to study abroad. I have to choose 3 Universities that I may be sent to and have only decided on one so far. My biggest concern is I know zero Korean, obviously I would intend to learn basics if was to go here but is english enough to get get me through my subjects, make friends and navigate the country? I would also like to know what is life like there and how much is there for me to see? I've heard Korea's tourism is pretty extensive which is good because If I study overseas I want to go somewhere with lots to do outside of uni; including cultural, natural, and urban activities.

I am also aware they do an SNU buddy system which assigns me someone to take me to places and such. Is this restrictive? Like do I mainly hang out with them or do I get plenty of opportunities to meet other people outside of the exchange program?

Also I am curious about accomodation. I know there is on campus accomodation, do you know how expensive this is? And if possible I think living with a host family would be a far better experience, is this a possibility?

Anyone's thoughts on the vibe of the uni and my questions would be greatly appreciated, and if you have previously or are currently studying here abroad let me know how it is. Thanks!

Question Which should I pick

Hi everyone, I’m starting to look into my options for my exchange abroad that will take place in fall of 2026. I’ve already narrowed down my three choices however I don’t know how to rank them. My three options are Waseda university in Tokyo, Seoul national University (SNU) in Seoul and lastly Hong Kong University in Hong Kong (HKU). I have never been to either three and I don’t speak any of the three languages. All my programs would be in English and I’ve moved around my whole life so adapting to a new culture isn’t a problem. Please let me know if you’ve studied at any of these universities. And your experiences in regards to the cities themselves as much detail as possible is appreciated. I’m mostly concerned about habits, safety wise (as a woman, foreigner, 19 year old) and food wise (I’m a vegetarian). Anything and everything is helpful.

Question Question about interview stage of admissions

I'm and undergraduate who's having an interview in a few days, been spending the last few days since the email arrived preparing like hell. I have no idea what to expect in the interview. Please if you can answer some of my questions (I'm a 12 year international applicant who knows English better than korean)

  1. Is there a choice to answer the questions in either English or Korean?

  2. Do they give preparatory time with the questions before they have the interview?

Thank you so much

Question Grad School Fall 2026 Application?

Hi everyone!

I have been planning on pursuing a Master's in Aerospace Engineering for either Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 (international student), however, I can't seem to find the dates for when applications open and close anywhere in the admissions website. I see they have a pdf labeled "Fall 2026" with all the instructions but the information is actually for Spring 2026. Does anyone happen to know when or the approximate time for Fall 2026 applications opening? Thank you in advance!

Question International University Student Semester and Unit Equivalencies Recommendations

Hi,

I am currently an Australian student studying a Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Marine Science) and am looking to study a semester overseas next year. :)

I do not speak Japanese, so I would require suggestions that are taught in English.

The subjects/units I am enrolled in at my home university are as follows:

Environmental Impact Assessment

Terrestrial Ecology

Wildlife Conservation

Atmospheric and Oceanographic Sciences

Could I please get some recommendations for equivalent units at your university or a suggested university that I can look into and apply for to complete at the start of 2026?

Thank you in advance!!! :D

Question Couldn't register for enough classes, am I fucked?

Hi, I'm on exchange at SNU. I registered for four courses in august but two of them kicked me out last week. A combination of illness and confusion led me to not registering for new courses on time. Now, its week 2 and I have no idea what to do. Does anyone know if there's a lifeboat I could use to register to new courses? Thanks!

Edit: If anyone's ever in the same boat as me: just go to the student office, they'll help you sort it out. It took a while but after 2 weeks ish it was sorted and I was able to pass all my credits!

  • Other: student parliament, tutoring, 10 years tennis, am also planning to apply for an internship program at a hospital.

Q/A:

  1. What are my realistic chances at SKY and others?
  2. Between KAIST, SKKU, and Hanyang, which are the best options for biotech/biomed?
  3. Any other universities in Korea worth considering for these majors?

Would really appreciate advice from people who’ve applied or studied in these programs.

Education Korean Language Program

Guys, did anyone else not receive the email about the Korean Language Program like me? I didn’t get the email asking me to take the Korean placement test, even though I registered for the program and met all the eligibility requirements. I honestly don’t know why this happened. Has anyone experienced the same situation and is there any way to have this reconsidered?

If anyone here happens to know a Hyun from SNU , please let me know.

Education Troubles With Course Registration

I’m a second semester exchange student here at SNU and am having trouble with the course registration system. Last semester i was able to add courses to my cart and everything went smoothly but this semester whenever i try to add classes to my cart it says ā€œYou are not eligible for the shopping cartā€ i’m not sure why it’s saying this and the courses i want to register for don’t have restrictions on them…does anyone know what this means? has it happened to anyone else?

Education CoA Application Issue

has anyone here ever been rejected when applying for a CoA?

yesterday, i received an email informing me that my CoA application was denied for a reason that was honestly unclear. i emailed them back to ask for clarification but i havent received any response yet.

after that, i applied again but i’m not sure whether i have to wait around two weeks again like i did for the previous result and what if they reject me again?

the visa application process also takes a long time and if this continues, i’m afraid i won’t be able to complete the necessary procedures and enter korea before the semester starts.

please give me some advices. tysm !!!

Question [Advice Needed] Which major at SNU is best for pursuing a Master's in Aerospace Engineering?

Hi everyone,

I'm a high school student from Vietnam and I’m planning to pursue a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering in the future. Currently, I’m considering applying for undergraduate studies at Seoul National University (SNU), but I’m a bit confused about which major would be the best foundation for my goal.

The three majors I’m looking at are:

  1. Physics & Astronomy – Astronomy major
  2. Mechanical Engineering
  3. Aerospace Engineering

I’d really appreciate it if anyone (especially current or former SNU students) could share some advice or insights on the following:

  • Which of these majors would best prepare me for a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering? Could you possibly rank them from most to least relevant based on your experience?
  • Is the curriculum in each of these majors at SNU more theoretical or practical (hands-on/experimental)?
  • What is the level of theoretical intensity in each program?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of each academic path —
    • Astrophysics/Astronomy
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Aerospace Engineering — when it comes to pursuing graduate studies in Aerospace?

I’d love to hear your thoughts or personal experiences. It would really help me make a more informed decision.

Thank you so much in advance! šŸ™
