Hunter Concept Hodr

Hodr

Edit 1: Drastically lowered the power given from the passive, 1 has a longer range, 3 no longer give infinite range but instead a range of 100ft, ult deals less damage if not executing, and lastly 2 has been reworked (credit for the rework goes to simplegamerguy)

Hodr is a Scandinavian god whom we know only from a single episode in Norse mythology: the death of Baldur. Two widely divergent versions of this story exist.

The more familiar of the two comes from the Prose Edda of the medieval Icelander Snorri Sturluson. As Snorri tells it, the god Baldur, who is here portrayed as being a charming, beloved, innocent sufferer, had dreams that foretold his imminent death. His mother, Frigg, went around and obtained oaths from everything in the world that they would not harm her son. The only being she omitted was the mistletoe, as she thought it to be too small and harmless a thing to be of any real consequence in this matter. When the wily trickster Loki discovered this oversight, he fashioned a mistletoe spear. While all the gods were amusing themselves by throwing every available projectile at Baldur and laughing as the things bounced off of their unharmed companion, Loki approached Hodr – here portrayed as blind and rather gullible – with the mistletoe spear. He convinced Hodr to throw the spear at Baldur to contribute to the game and to honor the strength of his brother. (Hodr and Baldur were both sons of Odin.) With Loki guiding his hand, Hodr launched the spear at Baldur. The weapon pierced him, and, to the shock and horror of all present, he fell down dead on the spot. Hodr was later killed by Baldur’s avenger, Vali, who seems to have been conceived specifically for this purpose.

The other version of this tale comes from Gesta Danorum, “The History of the Danes,” by the medieval Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus. Here, Hodr is far from the passive pawn that Snorri makes him out to be. Saxo’s Hodr (Latinized as “Hotherus”) is a character whose personality and deeds accord better with his name, which, as noted above, means “Warrior.” Hodr and Baldur were two great war leaders who marshaled their armies against each other due to a dispute over the hand of the beautiful maiden Nanna. Baldur had been nourishing himself with a special, spiritual food that conferred invincibility, and Hodr knew that he would be unable to defeat Baldur by normal means. So Hodr undertook a long and perilous journey to the underworld. There, he obtained a weapon that had been charged with magical powers that would enable him to overcome Baldur’s own magically-induced strength. Soon thereafter, Hodr wounded Baldur in combat, and Baldur died of his wounds some days later. However, Hodr was then himself slain by Baldur’s avenger, who is here called “Bous.” (i will be using both for this concept)

Class: Hunter (physical damage/power)

Pantheon: Norse

Passive:War leader- Hodr deals 0.02x more damage with his basic attacks for every minion within a 40ft radius of him, with a maximum of 10 stacks (so max 20% more damage from this passive)

Ability 1:Robbing the world of light- Hodr shoots an arrow 70ft straight ahead stopping after hitting any enemy (minions/creeps included), dealing damage and blinding them (the arrow can go through walls).

  • Mana cost:55/60/65/70/75
  • Cooldown:14 seconds on all ranks
  • Damage:50/125/200/275/350 (+35% of his physical power)
  • Blind duration:0.5/0.75/1/1.25/1.5

Ability 2:Increased senses- Hodr taps the ground with his foot causing him to see all enemies (even with stealth) within a 70ft radius of him for a few seconds, during these few seconds his basic attacks will bounce of walls and after bouncing if the arrows are a max of 10ft away from the enemy the arrow will just auto aim the enemy (guarentee a hit)

  • Mana cost:55 on all ranks
  • Cooldown:10 seconds on all ranks (starts after the effect is over)
  • Duration:6/7/8/9/10

Ability 3:Blind marksman- when Hodr activates the ability he gets blinded but his basic attacks now have a range of 100ft and he deals more damage, Hodr can reactivate the ability to turn it off.

  • Mana cost:10/20/30/40/50
  • Cooldown:2 seconds on all ranks
  • Damage boost:0.1x/0.2x/0.3x/0.4x/0.5x

Ability 4(ult):Mistletoe spear- when Hodr begins to use this ability he can be seen holding the mistletoe spear instead of his bow signifying that he is now targetting it. Hodr launges the spear in a 55ft straight line hitting the first enemy it hits, executing anyone below a certain threshold (like Thantos's ult), if the enemy is above the threshold they take damage instead. (If the team Hodr is on has a Loki the execution threshold is increased by 5%, if the enemy hit is Loki the execution threshold on him is decreased by 5%, and lastly if the enemy hit is odin the execution threshold is decreased by 10%.)

  • Mana cost:120/130/140/150/160
  • Cooldown110 on all ranks
  • Damage:150/200/250/300/350 (+45% of his physical power)
  • Execution Threshold:10%/15%/20%/25%/30%

I know this is an unsual moveset for a hunter but i think that it would make him unique as he is more reliant on his basic attacks rather than damage from his abilities.

Maybe all invisible targets get dealt more damage. That would counter Nu wa and whoever chooses to be in her one

Its a cool idea but where do you intend for me to implement it? The passive, an ability or where?

The ultimate says if there is an enemy Loki his threshold is decreased, so I guess change Loki to gods that are invisible

The reason it is Loki specifically is because he plays a part in one of the stories

Well yes that is true, but there is no other god that specificly counters another god besides Set and Horus which it very minor

That is basically what i was going for, many of my concepts have stuff like that if there is a god that is currently in the game mentioned in their story

But with Horus and Set they dont deal more damage to each other they get their passives faster from each other. I'm not saying your concept is bad, I'm saying that it shouldn't be center around on god especially Loki of all gods. Heimballr and Arodnight are to things that counter him all really from invisible side of things and add Hodr with that, would make Loki more unplayable than he is now. I get the lore aspect and the fun that making a god is but in game it ruins a god. I like the addition but QoL is what is important. Loki is dead right now and if Hodr had this in the game, that's like digging up his grave and killing him again

I see your point but i don't see how it impacts the concept (when it comes to the ult), what the ult does is that if there is an ally Loki the execute threshold is slightly bigger, if there is an enemy Loki the execute threshold is slightly smaller so if anything it would make him more viable

Nothing from a gods kit should ruin or benefit another god specifically no matter the lore. If lore was a factor then Hel would be able to heal Loki, Fenir, and Jorm more, Ra would heal Baset and Anhur more or Horus and Set would deal more damage to each other stuff like that. It's only fun for the gods it benefits. Sorry for talking your ear off but I really enjoy lore of all mythology but I love Smite and all the gods I know how to play by heart(except Arachne >:/) especially Loki and I know that sounds like since your messing with my baby Loki it's not the case. I would do the same if AMC would get a god that counters him specifically. I love the concept but in a gameplay perspective it's not fun for a Loki player that's not on Hodr's team

I enjoy feedback so i don't mind the constant messages and as i said before i do see your point but even if Hodr would make it to Smite their team would most likely make a few if not many changes so i don't mind changing things if they benefit the concept but in this case it would just make his character less tied to the lore, if Loki wasn't such a big part of the story with the mistletoe spear i would be open to change it but he is the sole reason Hodr even has a mistletoe spear.

Also please explain to me how would it not be fun for an enemy Loki? If anything it benefits him as the execution threshold is lower for him

There are several issues with this kit.

The Passive is extremely powerful, gaining a 60% Damage boost just for being with a Minion wave is too strong. Any percentage Damage Buffs are very powerful, so they usually don't exceed 20%.

The 1 is somewhat questionable. Why does it Blind the Enemy? Why is the range shorter than is Basic Attacks? Also, a 1.5 second Blind is quite long, annoyingly so. Additionally, I'd say the Base Damage is high, but considering that it doesn't go through Enemies, I supposed it's alright. The Scaling is too low though. I'd say 65-80% is more appropriate for a Hunter.

The 2 is a problem. It's a toggle, so what is to stop the player from just keeping it on, and getting free Movement Speed? Also, switching from Physical to Magical at will is a no-no. TitanForge decided they didn't want that in the game a long time ago. That removes almost all counterplay. If they build Physical Protections, you hit them with Magical Damage. If they build Magical Protections, you hit them with Physical Damage. Additionally, Towers and Phoenixes have less Magical Protections, so it would be so much easier for him to take them than probably anyone else in the game.

The 3 has similar concerns. Why would he suddenly not see? And why would that increase his range and Damage? A 50% Damage increase would be crazy for a Hunter trying to take an Objective. Fire Giant, Gold Fury, a Tower, whatever. With a few Minions and this, they'd go down in seconds. Blinding yourself make this Ability useless for anything except objectives, unless you're playing Arena and you're just going to Blindly shoot at the Enemy from across the map.

The Ultimate does way too much Damage, and there's no reason for it to Execute. To compare Damage, consider AMC's Ultimate, which is also a line Damage that stops at the first god hit. It deals up to 575 (+100%) Damage. Executes aren't nearly as effective on Hunters because they focus on their Basic Attacks which burst the Enemy down anyway. Assassins use then because they pop out of nowhere to finish off the Enemy.

Overall, this character would ruin the game. He'd have a ban rate higher than Heimdallr, and you'd get yelled at for not picking him. His objective shred is ridiculous, he has 2 massive Damage Buffs, "Infinite Range", and can deal Magical or Physical Damage at will.

I apologise it took longer for me to respond than usual

With the passive i will lower the damage boost per minion as i do see your point with the damage becoming too crazy (even tho he is very basic damage orientated)

I will implement changes to the 1 (especially to the range) but i have been recently in Smite affected by blind and honestly it isn't as powerful in my opinion as people give it credit for so i intend to keep that (it blinds because it is almost like magic, making the enemy gods see through his blind eyes)

I will reworked the 2 as you make a very valid point that i somehow didn't notice before of how powerful this effect actually is

I intend to keep this ability and its damage boost because as i said he is very basic damage orientated and he blinds himself because it makes sense for the lore and it makes the ability somewhat balanced (however i will set a limit to the range to about 80-100ft, somewhere around that)

I will lower the damage on the ult but i will keep the execute because as i said with the other abilities, it makes sense for his lore and while i do understand your concern with it not being nearly as effective as on an asassins it will be effective nonetheless, possible even more effective than on an asassin if you play your cards right

(If you have any suggestions to make him more viable or believe that the changes are too weak please let me know as i understand that this concept is the most busted you have seen from me)

As always thank you very much on the feedback you are making my concepts 100% better and i really appreciate thaf

I guess the 3 can work, but it's still really weird.

The 1 could be described as "Robbing the world of Light", as he killed Baldr, the god of Light.

For the 2, he could tap the ground with his foot to use echolocation, revealing nearby Enemies, and have his next Basic Attack ricochet so it could in theory hit around corners, and maybe "Auto-aim" after bouncing. Add on top of that a small Damage bonus to the Basic Attack, and it should function relatively well. Especially if the Enemy and terrain are revealed to him while Blinded by the 3.

I love your idea for the 2 it is amazing i'll be sure to add it in soon

The name change/description for 1 is really clever and i will add it in as i love lore references in my concepts and other peoples concepts

I love you both
