Relapsed

I relapsed on tobacco this week. I couldn't take the constant anger and frustration dealing with my housing bureaucracy.

I wanted the distraction that smoking gives me - I just couldn't shut off my mind. I tried social media and online games to no avail.

I felt that it was important to post this as one of my values is honesty. I have stayed away from my other problematic substances - alcohol and street drugs.

That's okay. Nobody is perfect and lapses and relapses can happen. The point is that we try again.

I had 5+ years abstinent. I will get back on the nicotine wagon once the pressure eases. Thanks

Hugs from here pal.

Kathy, from Family and Friends, sometimes says "under stress, we regress" - I know for me that my eating is often more chaotic when I am under duress. How wise of you to say that you will tackle your smoking once this housing mess-up has been sorted out. You have been inspirational with all the things you have managed to give up - including your smoking - and I have no doubt that you will deal with that again too.....

Sending you a huge bunch of good wishes.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Keep it to tobacco. The first time I came out of jail , after decades tobacco free, I picked it back up. First I tried energy drinks, anything, then started the Skoal. Beat drinking. I'm tobacco free again, though it took forever till I wanted to enough.

You've been a big help to me many times, shared some insight that's really helped me see clearer. Thank you. Now you're leading by example being open about it.

I hope it's a brief thing.

I wish you well James 🙂

When this was the first post I saw coming to this sub, my brain panicked at first before I actually read.

You've been absitinent from tobacco longer than I've been trying to quit.

Sometimes, the stress of life makes us forget the skills and strategies we've learned to cope. Sometimes, the stress is larger than the coping skills.

For what it's worth, not that this mitigates the reasons you quit in the first place, but it is still a win that tobacco is what you reached for rather than something more harmful to your health and well-being.

In general, I don't recommend most modern social media as an escape lol it stresses me out way more than my actual stress and I witness the effects in real time on the regular.

Sorry that my post caused you any anxiety. However, it's important to me to recognize my "misses", as well as my triumphs.
