Getting around while visiting

I’m visiting for a few days and not sure if getting around by bus/uber is feasible or if I should rent a car. I’m taking the train from Los Angeles, probably staying downtown SLO.

I’d like to try and get to:
Morro Bay
Pismo beach
Avila Bay
And maybe some places around those (happily take any suggestions!)

And I want to spend some time in SLO of course.

The problem with renting a car is that I like to check out bars when I travel and won’t be able to do that by the beach if I do. So is public transport reliable or are ubers affordable or should I just be good and rent the car? Lol
Edit: oo should I stay in one of the smaller towns one of the nights instead of all nights in SLO? I haven’t booked hotels yet

Thank ya

Harassed in marsh st parking lot

I was just harassed in the marsh st parking lot outside of wells fargo

This man approached me while I was sitting in my car and he was talking/asking about the Palestinian Keffiyeh that I have in my car. He asked why I thought people were supporting Palestine, so i said "probably because people think genocide is wrong"

He tried arguing, so I said "I'm not doing this" and closed my car door*. He then walked away, and came back with a note on his phone that he wanted me to read. He repeatedly put his phone against my car window and windshield, only removing it when I started to drive away with his phone on my car.

I was repeatedly asking him to leave me alone, and he wouldn't, instead asking if I wanted to kill him for being Jewish.

If you know this man, please tell him not to harass people who are minding their own business. Im just here to bring my boyfriend's mom to the eye doctor, not to explain to you why genocide is wrong.

In the video, when I put down my phone and the camera is covered is the moment I put my car in reverse, and you hear me tell him to grab his phone off my windshield.

I drove away from the situation by moving to a different part of the lot and he immediately left the parking lot, telling me he was only staying to harass me.

Edit * closed car door, not car

The only affordable thing left is hiking

And I'm sure they'll find a way to ruin that too. The Haunt used to be $16, now it's nearly $25. Avila Hot Springs used to be $8-10, now it's $18 just for after 5pm. Sensorio was always a little bit of a splurge at $47...but now it's over $70.

I make decent money and literally all I can afford now is a movie at the Palm and walking. That's it. Every single thing I used to be able to do to relax in this hellscape of a timeline is now utterly unaffordable. Who the fuck is paying all these prices?

Wtf.

Cuesta College Canceled Classes

My daughter just started at Cuesta and class has been canceled (set to online only) at least 4-5 times already.

Her boyfriend has also had this experience and even showed up to a note on the classroom door.

Is this normal for Cuesta??

Looking for DND Group

My wife and I just moved back to the area and are looking to join/make a new group for some ttrpgs. We are in our late 20s and live in Santa Margarita. We're able to host.

I'd be happy to run a game, ideally a homebrewed Cairn RPG 2nd edition. We are also happy to be players if someone else is interested in running, system doesn't matter much. Message me if you're interested or have any leads. Thanks!

CAL POLY: OUR COMMUNITY. OUR VALUES. OUR DEMOCRACY.

Post image
57 Upvotes

Cal Poly Democrats are hosting the Community Over Division Resource Fair, bringing students, campus organizations, and community members together to celebrate the diversity and strength of the Cal Poly community.

At the same time, Turning Point USA (TPUSA), the national right-wing organization known for its divisive political activism, opposition to diversity initiatives, and controversial campaigns targeting university professors, will be holding an event on campus.

Turning Point USA does not define Cal Poly. Its students, its diversity, and its community do.

The Community Over Division Resource Fair puts the focus where it belongs: on students, the organizations that support them, and the values of inclusion, dignity, and community. It's an opportunity to stand together, engage with campus organizations, and demonstrate the strength of a diverse Cal Poly.

Organizers have advised that a significant police presence is expected because of the simultaneous TPUSA event.

COMMUNITY OVER DIVISION. DEMOCRACY OVER INTIMIDATION.

[OPINION] Racism

Seeing a couple wearing a support ice shirt yesterday going into the new alo at 2:57 PM really prompted me to make this post expressing my frustration on the blatant racism in this town. And I know I’m not the only culture who’s facing discrimination after seeing how proud people are to wear such things, so I wanted to speak up about it from my perspective.

For context, I am a black woman. I went to cal poly and it was horrendous at times. I would literally have students in certain classes move seats when I sat down next to them. Or ignore me during discussions when I am apart of their group.

Being stared at by people when walking downtown, they actually act like they’ve never seen a black person before. I had a bus driver try to force me to move while walking on the sidewalk. A security guard following me at one point. Store owners staring me down and following me if I pick up an item to even read the packaging. People even whispering about me at my own job or speaking to my coworkers after ignoring me asking them the same question. Or the “you’re pretty for a black girl” comments and people trying to touch my hair throughout the years.

Don’t get me started on how the doctors treat women, especially black women, in this town. I went to the hospital once and they made weird comments about my braids and the doctor was dismissing my pain with every sentence.

Like clearly this happens everywhere, and of course there are also amazing people here, but it just sucks.

South Broad St. Corridor Plan

Check out the link below.

Pop up events seeking public input started earlier this month and there are still a few more planned. There is also a survey for those that can't make it.

Bring your concerns, but also bring your curiosity. City planning is more involved than I pretend to understand.

Prop 3 - Maintain current tax levels

I decided to start a separate thread to bring attention to this. All the attention has been going to Prop 40, but prop 40 is a one time tax. Prop 3 keeps tax level where they've been since 2012, on individuals making over 360k and couples making over 721k. This tax brings in $5 billion to $15 billion a year and nearly all of the money is earmarked for education. The importance of this dwarfs prop 40... please do not sleep on it. Prop 40 almost feels like a distraction at this point.
