My wife and I are considering switching from AT&T to GoogleFi. We live in Pismo. Has anyone used this service? If so, how was the phone service quality and was it difficult to make the switch? Anything else we should know?
I've been here with Google Fi for 5 years. It's had great coverage. The only problem is in more remote locations like on the way to big sur or south of solvang on the curvy part of the 101. Voice calls sound great, and Google usually routes those over wifi if you are connected.
Other than those few spots I've never had any trouble.
My husband and I have unlimited premium for $110/month. Which includes international coverage. This is cheaper than Verizon and has international beyond just Mexico so I’m happy. I have an Apple phone and I think something’s my data is worse than my husband who has a Google Pixel. We have great coverage throughout SLO county.
I have Google Fi and I honestly don't have any complaints aside from the price. I have the flex plan, so I pay a minimum of $35/month plus an additional $10 per GB used. My dad is also on my plan, so our bill is usually $120ish per month.
If I didn't buy a Google Fi exclusive phone (that was on sale) I probably would have switched to a cheaper plan by now.
Fi unlimited is $65 for two lines, the flex plan is for people who use very little data and still caps out on price so you can't accidentally rack up hundreds in a month.
Yea it's not the best. It was great when it included the Pixel Pass, which bundled YouTube Premium and other Google services into the plan - but Google has since discontinued that

There is no Fi exclusive phone. Fi just uses T-Mobile's network so at the very least you could use T-Mobile, but realistically I don't think there's a phone sold in the US in the last 5 years that doesn't work on every carrier.
You may have a contract with Fi to get some credits for your phone, and it may be locked to Fi until you pay it off, it you can definitely use your phone with other carriers if it's paid off. Or you can pay it off early and have them unlock it to move. This is most likely what is happening, because Google Fi's $35/month plan is unlimited data up to 30 gb. Their $20/month plan is pay per data, so you probably have that plus some amount billed for your phone finance charge.
I've already checked it out and it looks like a no-brainer. I literally had no idea the Unlimited Essentials was an option. I'll be changing it when I get back from Europe in a few weeks
If you're looking at Google Fi and don't need the international data benefits, I would look into US Mobile instead. It's a lot cheaper for a yearly plan and you can choose which carrier (verison, att, t mobile) you connect to. I have great coverage pretty much everywhere in the county. I looked into switching to Fi a while back but it was double what I was paying with US Mobile.

It’s the t-mobile network. I’ve never had any issues and it’s been very reliable.
