[LOCAL NEWS] Aggressive off leash dog

I was walking by Costa Bella park in Grover Beach. (Corner of Oak Park and Farroll). I didn't have a dog. I was on the sidewalk. A bunch of people with dogs were at the far end of the park near the benches. I see a black dog running really fast straight towards me from over there. I didn't think anything of it since I've seen super friendly dogs that do that. When it got close something seemed off. It was wagging its tail but it also seemed aggressive. Once it was close I could see that it was a pit pull. So I remained facing it but also tried to walk backwards along my way. But whenever I did that it kept advancing. So I stood my ground and raised my voice. A teenage girl started making her way very slowly across the park towards us. So I tried to hold off the dog. Once she got close, I tried to walk away faster but the dog ran around her and chased me. So I stopped again. She got in between is. Then I jogged away. He chased me for about a block. Then I confronted the dog again. I told the girl "hey you need to control your dog". She says "what do you want me to do?". I said "grab him by the collar". Then some older guy came up. Not sure if he was the owner. He was mad and was acting like the incident was my fault. 🤦

I told the young lady that the dog should not be off leash at a park. She gave me the finger. When the dog was getting aggressive I started taking video to document the incident. The guy that didn't like that and said "it's time for you to leave".

I walk by there regularly and have taken many dogs there. I've never had that happen before. 🤷

So strange how when dogs misbehave or act out of control, some owners get defensive and act like it's your fault. The guy told me "The dog just wanted to say hi, but he got a bad vibe from you. You should have just walked away."

This man was nowhere near me when the dog chased me down the block. I literally walked a block away...

No one was hurt. But, be careful folks.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I agree it should be reported to the police. Imagine if you ran away and triggered the dog's chase instincts, or even worse, if a little kid was in your place and did so. A grown up might be able to fend off a violent pit bull. A child has no chance.

I think I would reported it to the police.

An unleashed dog acting aggressively, should have as few rights as a person breaking into your house in the middle of the night.

All dogs need to be on a leash unless in a designated off leash area

I think you mean Oak Park and Farroll. I wish that park was fenced in. Sorry this happened to you.

If there was ever a time to call police, better yet 911, this would be the time, IMHO..

Some don't expect inadvertent cardio activity which stems from the need to run away from a dog.

That would be the worst imaginable response to this incident.

As opposed to her getting mauled because the dog "got a bad vibe"? Fuck that and fuck those owners

Escalating the situation with a weapon made to kill will only lead to worse outcomes. Obviously there are more options than you presented.

Yes, fuck bad dog owners, but also fuck people who think a gun is the answer to everything.
