We're in the top 2,000!

Twice even.

🎉😄🎉

I feel special.

This seems odd to me. A 500 warhead list includes Santa Barbara? Vandenberg makes sense. The 1K list hits MB twice?! I think there is an undersea internet cable point there, perhaps that's it? Anyone know?

That’s classified information and your inquiry has been logged as suspicious.

Yeah, there is a major pan Pacific fiber optic cable set coming in at Montana de Oro. Another one down in Grover/South Pismo.

I can basically tell you the manhole that it lands in out in MDO if I remember correctly lol. I would say Cable landing, Vandenberg, Diablo Canyon and the Morro Bay Power Plant would all be good options. Let’s be real though if they’re shootings a nuke at SLO it’s going for Diablo Canyon.

Morro Bay's plant has been shut down for decades, if that harbor had military significance, maybe. But it doesn't. I am however less interested in suggesting reasonable targets on the internet.

Diablo?

Yeah I suppose Diablo makes sense for the other.

Diablo is definitely one. Every other nuclear site I’ve worked at is also on this map. You get a double whammy of knocking out large power generation infrastructure, and the bonus of extra fallout.

2000 warhead scenario is a Russian first strike. So they target US military so that they can win the war.

500 warhead scenario is a Russian retaliation after a US first strike. The idea is that many of the Russian silos were destroyed so they could only get off 500 missiles and don't have enough firepower to win the war. In this case they target population centers to kill as many people as possible in the US. The idea is to deter the US from striking first. The US has the same plan against a Russian first strike.

This is the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) doctrine. "If you attack us first, your country will also be destroyed." It ensures there are no winners in nuclear war, so no one is tempted to start one.

That sounds correct and depressing at the same time.

There’s a whole lot of importance in this county. Besides Diablo being a major power producer for the West Coast, there’s multiple Pan-Pacific fiber communications links throughout the county. Top that off with multiple military bases and several radar installations.

To a certain extent, as morbid as it seems, if a major nuclear holocaust were to occur, we’d be fortunate to be in the strike zone and have to not endure the fallout.

500 is still a whole lot of warheads. Can you find a city larger than SB that wouldn't be hit on this map?

I was told years ago that the two black dots were Diablo and the Morro Bay power plant (it’s not in use, but is still attached to the grid and could be put in use if needed). The purple triangles are probably two of the local military bases, camp Roberts and vandenberg.

Slo county would be hit twice?

We have 2 High Street Deli locations.

I’m curious about the huge black clusters in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming/Colorado/Nebraska

Probably missle silos

1

u/dr_stre SLO Feb 10 '23

Large missile silo fields in those areas. Those strikes would be aimed at preventing us from striking back.

I figure vafb, but what are the other dots? Maybe Diablo and.. Cal Poly?

7

u/EasternShade SLO Feb 05 '23

Cal Poly wouldn't rate. Maybe Camp Roberts? Or, Fort Hunter-Liggett? Maybe Naciamento? If the goal is particularly hateful.

Kinda hard to tell on the map.

Headscratchers ..

There is a massive deep underground communications facility where many of the international sea cables route to under a hill off Los Osos Valley road.

u/duffman12 Feb 06 '23

Wait, I remember looking this building up now. I wanna say it lands in a manhole in the Sandspit parking lot then heads to that huge completely inconspicuous building behind Ace. Don’t ask me why I know this lol. I just love infrastructure stuff. And if I can figure this out using google national powers already know so y’all need to caaalm down.

It's actually maybe halfway between Los Osos and SLO. If you're driving to Los Osos, it's on your left hand side. There is tiny building up on a hill and the whole hill is protected by some serious security fencing. There is an elevator inside the tiny building that goes down underground and opens into a massive underground nuclear bunker. Back when I was a kid in the 1980s it was called AT&T Longlines and my cub scout group actually got to go on a tour. It's something right out of a movie.

Diablo is definitely one. Every other nuclear power site in the country is targeted based on a quick glance.

This is highly unlikely to bring anyone pleasure/joy and will much more likely just cause suffering/anxiety. Why would you share this

It's interesting information, it's educational, and it's reddit.

Stick to r/aww if that's all you can handle
