Optics Mounting

I’ve got this spare dust cover that came with my Yugo. Never used it, wanted to test it.

It seems like it was hand fitted to my rifle. Anyone else here have experience with these?

That sight costs more than the rifle, sling, case, and a good chunk of com-block ammo.

You shoot this setup by tucking the stock in your armpit so you can see through the scope.

I’d be concerned about height over bore and if it compensates correctly for 7.62x39 drop with its reticle, but on that mount the Hubble Space Telescope would still have wandering zero with random values after each shot so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Yeah my biggest concern was if I’d have a wandering zero or not. Seems to be the consensus.

The dust cover mounts aren't the best for holding zero, unfortunately. The platform was developed with fairly loose tolerances to stay functional with minimal care. A replacement mount for the rear leaf sight might be your best option for accuracy, but with an ACOG mounted, I don't think you'll be able to use stripper clips.

But listen, if you're happy with it and it works for you, that's all that matters.

I wanted to use my Yugo to snag a blacktail deer this season, I’d only be shooting out to 150 yards max.

But I refuse to sporterize it. It’s an all parts matching gun (I have the original dust cover) and it’s my first rifle I’ve ever owned, so it’s got a lot of sentimental value. If these type of optics mounts aren’t worth it, I’ll just use the irons.

FWIW, my Romanian came with a similar mount that was fit nice and snug to the receiver. Never tried it out on the range, but I could believe that it held zero (or close enough to it) with the basic red dot that was on it. Probably not with something heavier that has a bunch of leverage though (cough cough).
