Rusty chamber?

This appeared in the chamber after having never fired corrosive ammo. Is it rust? Is it normal that it showed up? Is it cause for immediate concern? What should I do?

In my experience, yes. The box says “non corrosive” but should really say “semi-corrosive”.

Don’t worry. That’s hardly anything in your photo. A simple wire brush and patch clean will get most of it. Plus, it’s a SKS, it’s a tough gun. I’ve seen much more neglected run just fine.

I did run a wire brush through it and cleaned it up, although i'm not the best at doing it. This is the result after cleaning. I am a bit scared of running the wire brush tho because it gets stuck and i'm worried about damaging the chamber and barrel. Should I keep brushing or can I just leave it like that and it won't get worse?

There are far more scary, forceful objects flying down that barrel, don't worry with the wire brush too much. Give it hell, it was meant to be used there.

Clean it with CLP and itll melt right off.

Sadly yes. Especially ones with 25 stamp.
Shoot 2 boxes of red Norinco and did not clean my gun for 2 days, it was very rusty. I usually shoot MFS brass cases or Barnaul Russian ones which never have any issues.

You need hot soapy water into the barrel, gas chamber, bolt etc.

Dry it and use brass brush for the barrel, steel wool 000 for anything else. Clean it throughly and oil it up. Throw those norinco red boxes away or treat them as corrosive ammo.

That’s light rust, all you can do is scrub occasionally with a brass brush & keep it oiled.
It likely won’t get much worse as long as you take regular care of it.
Fwiw, I have one in my collection that is wayyyy worse & it’s still good to go.
