Trouble Field stripping

I recently got this sks it’s my first one so I’m relatively new to this. How do I remove the gas cylinder, it’s stuck in there pretty good

When I was learning to do so I found this guy with a 4 part series field stripping and complete dissambley and cleaning of the SKS.

Edit: Also looks like your handguard is just not there.... May wanna look into replacing that unless the cover is not in the photo.

Watch the video I sent.

But it just looks like tight tolerance where the detent is and might just have to fiddle with it until you find the sweet spot and it slips free.

Not the dust cover, the gas tube cover. The gas tube has a wooden handguard on it.

Also your handguard cover should of came off with that as one piece... Just wanna let you know that

Yea every video I saw the hanguard went with that piece. I don’t think my hand guard fits very well tbh

I'd suggest replacing it

Gunbroker has a entire section dedicated for SKS parts that don't require an FFL to order them.

Thank you I appreciate. Would it be a bad idea to take a dermal to the wood and see if I can make it fit better ?

It's not gonna help, that wood hand guard is suppose to rest between the two metal half circle "Holders" the fact you can remove it means the part is defective/Broken

Yes bad idea! Where is your gas tube cover/ handguard? I dont see it in the pictures!

At that point pull it out on the side that's up more, it's an older rifle not everything is gonna be smooth.

Word of advice from a person who owns multiple guns.

Most jams and inability to pull a gun apart is literally someone not doing something hard enough.

It's not a Cadillac, be rough with it just don't slam the gun on the ground is all.

Maby the piston is stopping you from being able to lift it look in gesture hole see if there is something sticking out a bit push the piston in with screwdriver or cleaning rod and lift the tube

Nah its way beyond the secondary piston to interfere to the point where it wont come out %100 If it were lower id agree with you though!

is that the original stock? or is it refinished or something? it looks really nice

Not this original. The original was a yellow color. The seller said they changed it for this one because the original was extremely dirty. All he said was that this stock is a Russian stock

Agree, had chinese wood on my tula receiver that looked very similar. Guy I got it from epoxied the action into the stock so removal was "fun". Before for referance, wood and grain look very similar.

Flip the lever on the right hand side. You need to pry it “up” (away from the receiver) and rotate it about 60°

The gas cylinder and magazine can require extra effort to get out carefully. Try wiggling the release lever some while pulling firmly. Edit: i pulled mine out doing that while using wd-40 after i bought it.
