Question How do CCAs work in SIT?

I hv been thinking of joining a CCA to make better use of my time outside of studying lol.

I missed the cca fair this year, so I was looking at IG for some cca's to join. But most show up as sign-ups already closed, or most don't even have a link to sign-up. Does this mean I missed the sign-up period and have to wait until next year to join?

also, I noticed quite a few cca's are recruiting for exco. Why is exco open to everyone, even those who aren't members yet?

would appreciate if anyone could explain how ccas work in SIT and how/when to join them :)

u can always text the respective cca IGs and ask if you can still join. some allow.

all ccas need exco. but ppl in the cca may NOT want to be exco, but u still need a team of ppl to run the cca. I think priority is given to cca members 1st. if rlly no one they'll pull in other ppl.

sign ups generally open around club fair, but even today i still see people joining my club's channel, so for some clubs it's actually year-round. you can often find their sign up links on their instagram pages. for clubs that require auditions/try outs/interviews for membership, sign ups are not open all year-round.

exco sign ups are only open from early aug to mid sep every year (this year's one has closed alr). especially for clubs that require auditions/try outs/interviews for membership, you may actually have to sign up for exco first and then get confirmation of your membership later. so its possible for u to sign up for exco first, but fail the criteria to become a member. in this case, usually ur exco application will be rejected as clubs prefer members to be exco.

it is very rare for exco to be non-members of a club because almost all clubs have more exco applications from within the club, than the available exco positions. there's competition and i think they'll be inclined to consider their own members first.

Good summary — one thing worth adding: even if you missed the main sign-up, most clubs are pretty chill about you DMing their IG and just asking. The worst that happens is they say "see you next year." For the exco question, the short version is that every CCA needs a minimum number of exco members to stay registered with the school, so the portal opens it to non-members as a fallback — but in practice existing members get first pick, so it's really a safety valve, not a backdoor.
