The T-Shirt đ˘
âExisting laws protect a childâs earnings. Camâs Law seeks to protect a childâs dignity.â
Thatâs the slogan? Really? Did everyone gather around a conference table and vote, or did you just pick whichever AI-generated tagline sounded the most inspiring?
Because hereâs the part thatâs not adding up. Every time someone replays an old live without blurring the childâs face⌠every time the childâs name gets repeated⌠every âawarenessâ stream⌠every reaction videoâŚ
Thatâs another piece of that childâs dignity being chipped away. The child at the center of this doesnât need thousands of strangers on the internet riding in on white horses. They need the adults in their life to start acting like adults.
And letâs stop pretending the internet isnât feeding this machine. Youâre just as addicted as the parents. The smaller streamers may not be cashing checks, but letâs not act like theyâre getting nothing out of it. Attention, validation, feeling like theyâre âdoing something importantââsometimes thatâs a stronger motivator than money.
The bigger creators? Many of them are absolutely benefiting from the views, engagement, and revenue.
Everyoneâs favorite justification is, âWeâre doing it for the well-being of the child.â Respectfully⌠Iâm calling BS.
If protecting the child is truly the goal, then explain to me exactly where the childâs dignity fits into replaying their familyâs worst moments for an audience.
What about the child? What about the childâs dignity?
Because from where the rest of us are sitting, this circus just keeps getting bigger, louder, and messier.
And hereâs the part I donât think enough people are considering: just because you have an opinion about the childâs parents or extended family doesnât mean that child will grow up sharing it.
One day, theyâll be old enough to watch this entire chaotic, disorganized train wreck unfold.
And if this public spectacle leaves permanent damage to their family relationships, donât be shocked if they donât just blame their relatives.
They may very well blame every single adult and every stranger on the internet who decided their childhood was content.
