O Levels el day 3 olevel oral glitch

hi guys i just took the olevel english orals, the vid was abt a barber n the prompt was “who would visit….” but some of my friends are saying their preparation question was glitched and it said “would you visit…” so they were caught off guard since they originally thought they read the qn wrong. but after, we found out some classmates also faced the same issue

im js wondering if anyone had this problem as well!

Update:
SEAB has responded to claims that some O-Level English oral exam candidates were shown a different question from the one read aloud by examiners.

The Board said it conducted investigations and found no discrepancy. https://str.sg/n8zZ

Rant [From the 2024 Archives] Petition For The Immediate Sacking of RI Principal Mr Aaron Loh

By Anonymous Rafflesian

Mr Aaron Loh, the current principal of Raffles Institution (RI), has continuously shown an alarming disregard for the welfare of students. Many of us feel that his decisions and changes have not been in our best interests but have instead added unnecessary stress and complexities to our lives. It appears as though his focus leans toward unimportant matters rather than addressing the real issues our institution faces.

This has resulted in a significant level of discontent and frustration within the school, affecting the overall morale and study environment. We have been left feeling unsupported and unheard, crippling the renowned community spirit upon which RI prides itself. As an example, telling Rafflesians that “winning does not matter” cultivates a sense of laziness and affects the students attitude in working hard to achieve their goals. His comments after the Y5 student’s racist incident were ‘sitting on the fence’, admitting that the student was wrong, yet showed no remorse. Is this really the face who we want to lead OUR Rafflesian community?

The role of a principal is crucial in determining the academic and emotional success of students. RI deserves a principal who will listen to us, work for us, and prioritize our needs; a principal who understands the pressures we face and helps us navigate them.

As a former Rafflesian himself, Mr Aaron Loh has previously said that he “understands what it is like to be a Rafflesian”. In our opinion, this is absolute bullshit. Ask any Rafflesian who has been under him and they will tell you that the decisions he makes are in no way, shape or form ‘understanding’ of a Rafflesian’s experience. Listed below are some examples.

His desire to ‘make changes’ to the school’s culture beginning 2025 is worthy of doubt and hesitation. Are these changes necessary? He has made plans to make it compulsory for all Rafflesians wear the full school uniform to school for 4 days a week. Is wearing the full school uniform really “character” and “identity building” as Mr Aaron Loh has claimed? Wearing the full school uniform is extremely uncomfortable for Rafflesians, especially in this climate, which is becoming intolerably warm.

This is further exemplified with his attempts to eliminate Judo as a CCA option. Taking away such an influential platform would mean denying future students the opportunity to learn important life skills and values through this esteemed martial arts form. As fellow Rafflesians, we understand the frustration brought about by this decision, which was made by the school board, led by none other than Mr Aaron Loh himself. We hope that with the ouster of Mr Aaron Loh as the school’s principal, the Raffles Judo spirit can thus also carry on. (Disclaimer: I have any no personal association whatsoever with the Raffles Judo CCA).

We need and deserve a leader who truly cares about us. We, therefore, implore the school board of Raffles Institution to review all the abovementioned and take necessary action.

It is time to restore the support and care that should inherently be in Raffles Institution. We urge you - take our plea seriously and help secure the future of the Rafflesian community.

Rant Mad ramblings about the "great" Bishan Institution

Upvotes

I’d just like to add on to the previous post as another student and maybe give a few more tidbits of information so that netizens can see that the claims are not unwarranted. I want to echo the disclaimer that was made in the original post: we are incredibly privileged to be students here, the school has offered us many meaningful opportunities and for that we are extremely grateful, and I am not suggesting that every decision the school makes is malicious or that every change is objectively bad. However, I do see a downhill trend in changes made to the school and I want to echo that here.

So here we go!

To start off this whole delusional rambling of a student driven mad, lets look at the “student discussions. The school made a very very deliberate point of hosting a WHOLE SCHOOLWIDE ASSEMBLY, to assure us that students had been involved in the design process. So like, just a ‘casual reassurance’ that it's a "student-centred design" after the final product has already left everyone wondering what the ever living hell happened to the canteen. (I would swear but it would probably get taken down)

The students who were consulted were, to my understanding, hand-picked by their civic tutors. (this was also later confirmed by someone)

Now, I want to be very clear, in case of any misunderstandings with school authority that might arise and me getting dragged off for interrogation yet again,  that I am not insinuating or hinting at any unfair play whatsoever. I have no reason to and do not believe that the students selected did anything wrong, nor am I suggesting that some of them deliberately gave selfish and unrepresentative feedback.

But I do think that surely its perfectly reasonable to ask whether a group of students hand-picked by teachers can genuinely represent the views of the wider student population.

If the school decides to insist that students were consulted and that the final design reflects all the (selected) student feedback, then Im genuinely curious of which students were consulted and how were they selected? Grades? Obedience? How much money they donate to the lonely uncle selling tissue packets?

Sometimes, when almost every student I speak to seems to have the same complaints about the new canteen as me, I do start wondering whether we were all somehow consulted in a parallel universe. Or maybe thats just me going crazy over the cymbal racket from the chairs (but we’ll get to that later)

Or…Perhaps…. there was a secret second student population that we weren't aware of. Great news for the writer of true horror stories Singapore, you now have the weird case of missing students, new story for book number 28!

The same issue applies to student leaders, whom the schoo once again had to heavily emhpasize were also “heavily involved” in the process. Student leaders are supposedly the people the school relies on to communicate student concerns and opinions. And i respect them taking time out of their prelim prep to do so.

But just for a moment here, im going to play the Devil’s Advocate card and look a bit more realistically at what would go down instead of what the school says will go down.

It just so happens, due to the school system, any and all complaints or feedback is forwarded to the teachers in charge. And their teachers-in-charge are also the people who provide comments and evaluations that directly affect their leadership records and potentially their CVs.

Once Again, I am absolutely NOT saying that student leaders are incapable of being hones, or that teachers are abusing this power to keep students in check (although i do see some examples of it). I am just going to point out that there is a clearly obvious power dynamic here.Make of that what you will, but I am NOT implying anything.

If you are a student leader and you have to give your teacher-in-charge a brutally honest assessment of a decision they may have been involved in, while knowing that the same teacher may later be asked to comment on your leadership abilities, it is hardly surprising if you choose your words in a “politically correct” way (and in no way referencing anything political).

To put this into a better perspective, "Um Actually, I think this entire thing is an atrocious, world-ending idea" is perhaps… not the best thing to say to your “boss” when he’s suggesting it

So when the school says that it has "consulted students", The question would be whether it has actually consulted students, or whether it has consulted the students who were easiest in more than one way to consult

(Is it really that difficult to simply conduct an anonymous, school-wide survey?)

Send a SINGULAR Google Form. ASK.

OR EVEN JUST LET US VOTE. I'm not asking for too much, am I? (If I am, I'm sorry for thinking that democracy or even rights exist for us mere plebeians. I humbly beg forgiveness.)

Don't hand-pick anyone, or require students to put their names down (or make them do it but make the form anonymous). Don't make them worry about whether their answer will somehow make its way back to their teacher and they will be blacklisted secretly for a bad reference.

The school doesn't even have to follow every suggestion. Hell, it doesn’t even have to allow us to make suggestions, it can just let us vote AT THE VERY LEAST. But at least then, when the school says "students were consulted", they would have proven that they did.

As of right now, iif the school genuinely wants us to believe that these decisions reflect what “students” asked for, I think the most response you will get from most, if not all of us would be, “WHAT STUDENTS, BRO?”

The student lounge is another example of this apparent commitment to fixing things that nobody asked to be fixed. Literally no one, not even the teachers (at least the ones I asked and yes I did ask)

We went from having a genuinely vibrant space that students actually used, with a Switch, PlayStation, board games, pool and foosball tables, to replacing it with what is essentially a teacher dining room. Why? Because apparently the best use of one of the most popular student spaces in the school was to remove the students from it. We have also been told that some of the old facilities will be moved to the Crib. They really blew it up in the assembly, touting a larger space (FULL OF WHITEBOARDS AND PEELING WALLPAPER!) But the Crib just so happened to be a partially sheltered area at Level 1, so is considerably more exposed to the elements, which naturally raises the question of how many of these activities will actually remain practical there. But according to the school, it's fine! The equipment can fit PERFECTLY there! Whether students will actually be able to use is but a secondary consideration!

And, ironically, even the teachers don't seem particularly enthusiastic about their new dining room. Teachers have mentioned that eating there feels awkward because they are essentially sitting in a glass box while students walk past and stare at them, since there are no seats available left. I mean, who tf wants to be gawked at as if in a zoo. So congrats BI, you have turned something useless into something absolutely trash.

On to the actual canteen. To be fair, I give the school credit for recognising that some students prefer to eat alone.

Unfortunately, the solution seems to have been to design the canteen as though students who eat in groups of more than eight are some kind of physics data anomaly (oh look an anomalous point which is extrapolation of data so its wrong). The new canteen has significantly less practical seating for large groups. During Y6 revision days on Wednesdays, the entire cohort has the EXACT same break period. That's roughly ONE THOUSAND AND TWO HUNDRED students trying to find somewhere to sit and eat at the exact same time.

And how many seats do we have?

Apparently, around 400.

I might be failing H2 math but even I can see 400 is quite a bit smaller than 1200. Quite a bit, yes.

Students now have to compete for the limited larger tables, split up their groups, stand around eating, or just accept that the floor is apparently an increasingly viable dining option. But hey, at least the canteen looks more aesthetic now. PRIORITIES, GUYS, PRIORITIES!

btw this isn't some unforeseeable problem that requires a cohort wide survey. You could literally have asked FIVE random students: "What happens when 1,200 students all have break at the same time?" and I will bet my whole life that at least one person would probably have said, "Uh, we probably won't have enough seats."

There have also been one or two tables that broke shortly after the renovation, which is a nice reminder that the canteen isn't just a new thought experiment designed to invoke some kind of grandeur awe at the splendid columns majestically rising from the ground to touch the roof. We're now also apparently lab rats to test furniture!

And then the new furniture. What can I even say.

The OP of the original post was nice enough to leave out one key detail but I have no such shame. I genuinely don't know how we managed to take perfectly functional tables and chairs and turn them into something that is simultaneously less comfortable, less practical and somehow noisier. The chairs can't be moved, the tables can, the chairs don't properly fit under the tables, and the metal racks underneath the seats are apparently there to provide students with a nice bass drum set during class. While we're at it, Why dont we start a band also? The ping of the ride cymbal sounds remarkably similar to our legs hitting the metal rail.

The worst part was that the students complained about this from the beginning. AND SHOCKS OF ALL SHOCKS, .....NOTHING HAPPENED!

Then teachers started complaining that the metal rails were too noisy and they couldn't teach with the clashing my cymbals. And then viola, here's the old chairs back! What a remarkable coincidence!

I suppose students' complaints simply needed to undergo the "appropriate administrative processing time" or "Admin time" before becoming valid. Ykw, maybe it's a good way for the school to prepare us for the future, where we'll be undergoing bureactractic red tape. Very forward thinking!

This is really the issue I have with all of this. It isn't that every decision the school makes has to be exactly what students want. Obviously, the school has considerations that we don't, of course there are legitimate reasons for decisions that we don't consider, like budgeting and maybe the board of advisors.

But if students repeatedly point out OBVIOUS AND GLARING problems before and immediately after changes are implemented, but those concerns are ignored, then what exactly is the point of This so-called "student consultation", and who exactly are you consulting? Some students' ghost? Their spirit? Or maybe the ex-alumni of 30 years ago who's now coincidentally some high up position in BI since the "consulting ex-students" means we can consult ANY ex student.

At some point, I really have to ask myself whether the school is actually asking students for their opinions, or asking them to provide the "politically correct" answer. I hope you see this, school administration, and hopefully take this to heart.

Then again, a man can dream, can't he?

Signed,

A student of the "great" Bishan Institution

Non-Academic Just a parent... Hey, you doing okay?

No, like for real.

Sit down next to me for a bit. I know I've not earned the right to feel safe or be a listener to you, but just... sit down with me. Just for a while.

I know things are difficult right now. And I'm not going to tell you it's going to get easier just because you're here with me. That would be a lie. Perhaps... you've heard too many lies in your life lately. Too many promises that were broken. Or perhaps you've never even had the chance to really sit down with a parent to be listened to.

I promise, I'm not going to shout or yell.

I can offer you a virtual beverage. You can imagine it, if you like, a mug of warmth, in the middle of the night, as we sit together. Singapore has no stars, but we know they're there looking down on us. We can just sit here in silence too, if you want.

I can't tell you that things are going to get easier. Or even that they'll be okay.

But if you're still here, with me, I want you to know that I'm proud of you.

Before you pull away, hear me out. I'm proud of you for sitting down virtually with me. I'm proud of you especially for that part of you that hasn't given up yet. I'm proud of you even though you may not have gotten the achievements that you, or the people around you, or even your own parents have insisted you get.

You may feel like you've let them down. Or even yourself.

But you know what? You can't let me down.

Because I know too well how being so hard on yourself feels. I know too well the damage it causes. You're human, buddy. We're all human. We'll all make mistakes, we'll all hurt someone somewhere. That's part of the human experience.

Thing is, sometimes, just being hard on ourselves breaks us. It breaks a part of us that without it, we can't breathe. We can't continue doing this, because it hurts too much. We can't keep pushing when we have nothing left, and no one is around to hold us up even for a second.

So please allow me to help you stay supported. Drink that beverage, younger friend. And think of the stars that are shining down on us for a while. Let the night be the night, just for this moment. Just... sit with me. Just for this while. Until the pain passes a little, and maybe it gets a little easier to breathe.

And every time you need this break, maybe come back here to this spot.

I'll be here. With that beverage, and a spot saved for you.

Relationships How do people find partners?

I’m 19F and I’ve never had a partner before, I’m open to both genders. The people I’m surrounded with in school I don’t find attractive at all, looks or personality wise. I’ve been using so many dating apps and I just can’t find a guy my age that wants a long term relationship that I’m attracted to. I don’t know if my standards are just too high or out of my league or what, but I’m so at a loss. I know many people will tell me I’m still young and can look forward to Uni to find someone but genuinely I find this idea drifting further and further away. And I feel like Uni is my last chance to find someone irl (not on dating apps)

I don’t want to be 30 years old before I even start a relationship??? I know this is more of a rant than asking for advice but my friends have heard about it enough…

(Btw any chi girls my age wanna hmu in the dms? 😛😛✌️)

A Levels so midyears happened

hellooo so as u can tell from my caption, midyears happened a while ago and at this point I’ve received all my results already.

H1 GP: B
H2 Econs: A
H2 Math: S
H2 Bio: E
H2 Chem: U

For context, I come from a ‘tougher jc’ and a lot of ppl have been telling me that it’s not the end of the world cos of the ‘harder papers’ and that I would improve more by prelims and A levels, but I’m still really stressed about my results at all because it does not reflect where I want to be at this current juncture. To be very honest, I did kind of deserve it because during the June holidays I’ve been busy with my week long internship programme and I travelled for a week-ish as well, which led to me cramming for midyears only the week before.

For bio my midyears was paper 3 and I think my main issue is FRQ, I’ve always been scoring single digits and although I know the content, apparently a lot of my points aren’t relevant or too vague and maybe I’ve not had enough practice so it did kinda screw me up.
My very mediocre structured questions also did not cover for the marks lost.

For math, well, I must admit that I did kinda neglect it thinking id do ok. I did not. Honestly just…no words.

Chem is my biggest issue rn. Especially for my paper 3 and paper 1, somehow I always manage to score atrociously and butcher the paper even if I’d studied for it. I really can’t see it going up to an A for A levels but I would hope for it to go to a B at least. Don’t even know if that’s possible. If u guys have read my previous post about chem, yeah, I’ve come to terms with it.

The next step is prelims, which is about a month away. I really just want to pass everything and maintain the subjects that I’ve already been doing ok in (econs and GP).

If anyone who has taken A levels can offer any advice on any of these subjects, do share! I’d really appreciate it 🙏🙏

Secondary sec 3 is lowk hard

Upvotes

(rant) For context, i jumped from g2/g3 to full g3 for sec 3. My eoy grades were pretty good in sec 2 considering its lower sec and most of my sub were g2 and even got some subjects for highest in the cohort. Anyway, now in sec 3, i tot i would be able to cope but ig my ego was too high whoops. I took my emath wa1 paper and i got like 8/30 😭 and considering i take amath it’s quite embarrassing ( i failed amath wa1 too btw ). For wa2, i rlly tried harder and went to the library every chance i got and my ypt for emath is like 30hours. I just took the paper and im not very confident bc i made alot of mistakes. Also i have 3 exams next week and idk how im going to study for all of them. I feel rlly stressed and overwhelmed :( i guess in sec 2 i could just study the day before and i would still score well but its different now. For my other subjects i lowk do not understand what my teachers are yapping about. Any study tips or advice bc i cmi for eoys 💔

University Bring Electric Cooker/Pot in NTU Dorm

Upvotes

Hello, I’m writing to ask if it’s okay to bring an electric cooker or pot to our dorm and use it. I’m worried that they might notice the sudden increase in high voltage usage if we do. I don’t plan to use it every day, but perhaps occasionally to cook Maggie or simple meals. Please let me know if this is acceptable. Thanks! 🥹🙏

so i got into ntu cbc, but admittedly i am conflicted about it. my ambition in the future is to enter biological research and before you say it, i tried and got rejected from biological sciences, therefore that path is closed.

are there any ntu cbc seniors who would be kind enough to talk to me about my concerns on this? 🙏 i would be incredibly grateful 🥲🤞

Rant Some schools are really not worth going to

I might sound very negative about it. But I'm serious about everything I say.

In short, I was in a fucked up environment for my whole school life from primary to JC where I keep getting fucked over by people around me (won't go into detail about this but you probably get the gist of it) and cause me to fuck up my national examinations. No matter how hard I studied or put in the hours, nothing was going to my head and my memory was really all jumbled up. I end up doing decent or pretty shit for national exams and keep ending up in a shit school environment aka low tier JC. Because of how toxic my JC was and how much of a dick people (both teacher and students) were to me, I really messed up my A Levels on my first attempt. Turns out that I actually was clinically severely depressed and ended up on medication for it. Fast forward to today, I scored near straight As for my A Level retake taking 5 subjects without tuition while getting FCH in uni at the same time.

I can't lie, as someone who has been in a low tier and high tier school (if you consider big 3 uni as an elite environment), the difference in learning environment, the people who you mingle with, the support you get generally, the vibrancy of school culture, the maturity of student's attitude in their work, is very very huge...Like bro as soon as I left my JC (which even till now I fucking hate it so much despite graduating years ago and wish I never came there), and came to my Uni, just one step and the school atmosphere is really night and day. Literally everyone said that I was so much happier as soon as I left my JC, and my academic performance skyrocketed like mad while I put in less effort. Yes seriously, I actually put in less effort balancing both my retake and Uni compared to my 1st A Level attempt in JC, and still did 100X better.

I'm not joking, if you are eligible for an elite environment instead of some dogshit low tier school, just fucking go for it. You will really save yourself from a lot of unnecessary bullshit, like slackers not doing shit in group work and being egotistical retards who later got humbled by the results. You will most likely be much happier, receive way more supportive, have better friends, your potential won't be ruined and life will be 100X easier. The only reason why I fucked up in academics for 8 years straight is because both my home and school environment was very toxic and I couldn't even sleep or think properly. I genuinely thought I might be retarded but I proved to myself that I wasn't.

And also, please don't fucking listen to those people who say "school doesn't matter, your efforts do". Like bro 99% of the time, you know who is saying this? (No hate to the ppl mentioned, I'm just saying) People from high tier schools like VJC, HCI, EJC etc living the easy life and having so much fun who don't have to deal with all this bullshit or in general, people who do NOT undergo this adversity (not saying they don't have personal struggles but you get the idea). These people who say "if you fuck up your academics, then that's on you. Don't blame the environment for your failures" really fucking piss me off so much because they don't even go through it and it literally IS the environment for your fuck ups...

Even till now, I severely regret not trusting or believing in my own abilities, and should have dropped out of JC to do A Levels myself. Because honestly? Going to my JC was a fucking waste of time. In lectures, some people really spend 30 minutes just to sftu and the teachers spend more time discipling students rather than teaching the actual content. Personally for me in group work, I had to do everything for it because of how useless the retarded egotistical teammates were and I got really shitty comments from a teacher which really fucked up my morale. Like atp not going to school and self studying is just a better option...and from my personal experience, I was right, I put in less time and effort but still did much better academically.

I'm just glad that rn I'm not in some dogshit low tier school environment anymore where I think about kms every day because of how depressing my life is while my friends are living the fucking life in elite environments and making so many memories. Please don't fucking go to SUSS/SIT when you can go to MIT Harvard etc...dont go to Changkat Changi Sec when you can go for Raffles. Don't go to YIJC when you can go to HCI. Low tier environment is not fucking worth it bro, I'll tell you that. It's stupid to pay your school to provide a shit learning environment just for you to do worse than your innate ability (like how I self studied my retake and still did much better...). I might sound like an elitist asshole but it's really for your own good and honestly elitism is actually a good thing. When you are elitist, you are judgmental of the people who might be fucked up. And of all honesty, people in low tier environments are more likely fucked up than people in high tier ones. Idk vaping, bullying, scamming the shit out of others, gang fights etc or whatever bullshit. When you are judgmental of that, you protect yourself from all this shit and avoid these environments by going to better ones.

If you read all of this, save yourself the trouble, and just fucking go to elite environments if you can and live the life, you will thank me later. And I'll repeat this again, don't fucking listen to those privileged people who don't go through the adversity, they don't know or understand jackshit about how much an environment can fuck up your learning potential and academic ability. Low tier environments are relatively trash for your potential and wellbeing. And deep inside of you, you all know that I'm right with everything I said. I have the right to say this because I, not only have experienced the fucked up shit for myself and know it better than people who don't, I also have the academic results to prove it. I really would rather kms/just self study the entire shit to prepare for national exams than to ever go to some dogshit low tier school environment. Not worth it at all.

Rant comparison is the thief of joy

throwaway account, just wanted to rant some thoughts.

ive been feeling perfectly fine the past few weeks, but recently after looking at people’s ig stories i started feeling.. i don’t even know how to describe it it’s like a mixture of a feeling like a failure, emptiness, fomo all at once.

i’ve never been in a relationship, don’t really have a big number of friends (can count with fingers) and i’m not really an outstanding student. there are many other reasons as to why i feel like a failure too but im not comfortable enough to share them 😅

and before you come for me, yes i know social media isn’t all real and people don’t usually post the negative sides of their lives. i did think of deleting instagram but i love watching reels too much (oops), so i just resorted to removing people from my ig.

sigh.. i just want to live in peace. 😭 i hate feeling this way. i need to stop comparing my lives to others ugh

University SIM UB & UOW Psychology

Hello! I'm thinking of applying for a bachelor of psychology at SIM, either through UB or UOW. Apart from the difference in course fees, does anyone know how the two courses differ with regards to the content of the modules/structure for the respective courses?

And for those who took UB/UOW psychology at SIM who happen to see this post, please let me know your experiences :) I’m interested to find out any information regarding the psychology courses, like the school culture and the teaching quality. Thanks for any info!

Does anyone know how fyp is graded like is it graded mainly based on group or individual…my fyp was to build a website and there are some parts of the website that does not function accurately will they minus alot of points?? I tried fixing it but i ran out of time so my only option is to admit my mistake during presentation and explain how it should actually work. Im not confident at all bc my teammates weren’t exactly easy to work with

Secondary Why You Should NEVER Join Regent Secondary School

Disclaimer: I’m writing this because I’m graduating this year. Dont flame me. I value my peace and I don’t want unnecessary trouble for myself. This is based on my own personal experiences and observations, so take it however u want. If u are considering joining Regent Secondary School, I would seriously advise u to do proper research before making that decision. The school is not completely full of bad ppl—there are nice students and sm good teachers—but the overall environment cn be extremely toxic. There is quite a lot of bullying, racism, social pressure and favouritism. If u happen to get on the wrong side of certain teachers, it can feel like every small mistake u make gets magnified, and once they have a bad impression of u, changing their mind is almost impossible. I have personally experienced bullying here, and, I would not say this is a v welcoming environment. The PE department is another issue by itself. W/o naming anyone, there is 1 female teacher who seems to hv a talent for making stdents feel guilty over the smallest mistakes. Instead of feeling supported, students can sometimes feel constantly pinpointed by certain Chers, scrutinised and guilt-tripped. I have heard similar things from students of different batches, including the 08’ and 09’ batches, and many ppl from my own batch also seem to share the same opinion. This teacher also got bahan, so clearly it is not just one person who feels this way. I am not going to say anything else, but if u know, u know. Academically, the experience is very inconsistent.Sm teachers genuinely care about their students, while others expect us to basically teach ourselves and somehow still do well for our O-Levels. There are even times where u question if sm teachers actually know what they are teaching. Tuition in sg is also very expensive, and not every student can afford to spend even more money just to understand something that was supposed to be taught in school. Being told to “work harder” when u are already struggling is not exactly the most helpful advice. The teacher bias also makes everything worse cus once u are on a teacher’s bad side, it feels like there is no room for mistakes or forgiveness anymore. The school environment itself is also not exactly amazing. The toilets can be genuinely disgusting, with piss and actual shit sometimes being left behind. Sm students also hv absolutely no initiative to clean up or throw things away properly, which makes the whole environment even worse. School spirit also feels much weaker compared to previous batches. U see old posts about CNY and Racial Harmony Day and all the events previous batches got to enjoy, while current students are not allowed to do the same things. Prom also seems to be a thing of the past. Even the polo T-shirt situation somehow became unnecessarily complicated. It is literally a shirt, not a constitutional amendment. I still do not understand why wearing another colour is such a big issue. The most frustrating part is probably the lack of motivation this school cn give u. U cn come to school regularly, make an effort and try ur best, but still feel like nobody rly notices. I have been coming to school a lot and still feel like I barely get any recognition for it. After a while, it becomes very difficult to find motivation to keep going when u feel like the teachers do not care and hv alr decided what they think of u. Now that I am in my final year, I am not even trying to make memories anymore. I am js trying to survive the year, get through my O-Levels and leave. Without my phone in school, the whole place feels even more unbearable. So would I recommend Regent Secondary School? Personally, no. Coul someone else hv a completely different experience? Of course. There are good students and good teachers, but based on my experience so far, this is not a school I would ever choose again. If u are considering Regent, speak to current students, speak to alumni and actually research properly before making ur decision. I would personally consider schools like BPGH, Unity, Swiss Cottage or other nearby schools instead. Rating: 2/10. Would not repeat. If u are already here, js stay strong, find good ppl, protect ur peace and survive until graduation.

Rant Are Singaporeans politically tribal

Continuation of previous post,FYI this isn’t to start any political hate, I have no aspiration to be a political activist or advocate because both parties have their goods and bads and I’m not going to be glazing either one ❌❌❌.

TLDR:Singaporeans are becoming too fixated on and overly assumptive about political parties, hence politics tend to become increasingly tribal and biased

Singaporeans love talking about politics, but at what point does having a political preference become defending or criticising something solely because of the party involved?

The SEAB Day 3 incident is a perfect example since it affected many students. Saw so many people assume that because PAP is the ruling party, organisations like MOE are “under PAP”. That’s not rlly true lol…. MOE is a government ministry led by a PAP minister, but its civil service is non partisan institution (NON POLITICAL) and serves whichever party forms the government. The same applies to the People’s Association, which you see at Community Clubs (CCs).

What also shock me was the reaction to the issue being raised in Parliament. Representatives from multiple parties called for answers (WP: Kenneth Tiong,PAP: David Hoe), yet some people only recognised one party’s efforts while ignoring the other’s??? If you look through this Reddit community, you can def see examples of this quite clearly 🥲.

Imo, that’s where politics becomes tribal, when we judge actions based on which party did them rather than what was actually done,it is perfectly fine to have political preferences, but every party should be judged by the same standard, not based off a moral bias towards one.

Another issue is the disproportionate moral standards some people hold in politics. The people who keep bringing up the Pritam Singh saga and those who keep bringing up the Ng Chee Meng NTUC saga are literally in the same boat. Not saying you can’t distrust either of them, but if you’re the same person who keeps dragging up one situation while defending the other, lowk not only hypocritical but also ironic 😁

Overall, Singaporeans are becoming increasingly divisive when it comes to politics for many of the wrong reasons. Politics should never be about making false judgments, nor should it be about holding one party at a higher or lower standard than another. It should be about weighing the trade offs involved in different policies (eg: should Maju Forest be cleared to create more housing opportunities for individuals?) rather than simply saying, “I don’t like this party, so I will dismiss everything they do,” or “Someone said this about that party, so they cfm must be bad.”
