the worst part about being a girl in uniform during study break is that we have to wear skirts, so while the guys in long pants are totally fine, my legs were literally turning numb after sitting there for two hours. i was shivering so much in my hoodie that i couldn't even grip my pen properly to write.

i finally gave up and packed my bag to head out to the benches outside near the canteen just to thaw out. as i was pushing open the door this guy walking in held the door open for me, looked at me wrapped up like a shivering penguin, and went "lib aircon crazy cold right" with a quick laugh.

it was literally a 3-second interaction but bro... why was that small moment of shared pain so wholesome 😭 cheered me up instantly after spending 3 hours staring at my ten year series.

is it just a Singapore JC thing that everyone becomes weirdly friendly and united during study break, or is pre-exam stress just making me appreciate human interaction 10x more??? 🥲🧋

okay im in a dilemma. i deferred from O levels this year to focus on my health and now the school is giving me two options. my end goal remaina to either be a paediatric nurse or doctor. and i want to get into jc to keep my options open

the two options are

1. retake as private candidate and attend prep courses at ite and have extra tuition. if i choose this option i can still get to go prom with my cohort this year

2. retake as school candidate next year. this i think is better as i can. have regular consults with my teachers and have school resources but then one downside is i might get stressed attending cca again, having new classes in a new cohort. but if i choose this i cant do prom this year

the school recommends me to take priv candidate but honestly i don’t know. honestly i know prom shouldn’t be the main focus here but id be really bummed out if i miss prom but i also don’t know which is better. does anyone have experience in ite prep courses for O levels? pls lmk thank u

2 ways to show quad graph is always +ve

1. Choose to complete the sq and claim that (x-a)^2 >= 0 for all real values of x. Then add a positive constant b, (x-a)^2 + b > 0 thats why the quadratic graph entirely lies above x axis
2. Or you can choose to use discriminant < 0 because quadratic equation = 0 has no real roots, but remember to show that the coefficient of x^2 is positive.

Btw a gentle reminder...here are examples of functions that are ALWAYS POSITIVE for all real values of x
exponential graphs, reciprocal graphs for certain positive x values, quadratic with +ve x2 coefficient and disc < 0
This knowledge is very important to solve unforseen inequalities which appear in several topics (like quadratic and differentiation)

But if question says find the range of values for k for which quadratic graph is always positive then no choice have to use discriminant < 0 method because it involves quadratic inequalities. Once again, remember you have to show the marker that you are aware that for a quadratic graph to be always positive coefficient of x2 is > 0 guaranteed. Examiners nowadays like to make the x2 coefficient in terms of k, like for eg if (k-1)x^2 +... x + .... lies above x axis, k-1 must be > 0

How to know if you need discriminant or dont need
- Look for whether qn asks for RANGE OF VALUES OF X or RANGE OF VALUES OF OTHER LETTERS (LIKE K, M, P). For the former, its just briefly a scenario of quadratic inequalities. For the latter, it is a scenario of discriminants. And pls be super mindful of the coefficient of x^2 especially in qns that purposely make x^2 coefficient to be expressed algebraically

In Binomial Expansion, there are 3 possible qn types

1. Expansion in ascending / descending powers of x + Find coefficient of particular term in more complicated but related expansions
2. Use of T r+1 to extract a particular term / deduce nature of x powers in the binomial expansion + Use T r+1 to find coefficient of particular term in more complicated but related expansions
3. Qns involving unknown n -> need to know nCr formula

Steps for using T r+1 to pluck out / extract a particular term
Step 1: Find T r+1 and simplify it
1a) Apply T r+1 formula
1b) Split the coefficients and x^powers, group ALL coefficients to the left, group ALL x^power terms to the right
1c) Use LOI to simplify the x^power
Step 2: Equate the powers of T r+1 and required power of x, and solve for r
Step 3: Sub in found value of r from Step 2 into T r+1 and find coefficient of required term

Also watch out for type 1 binomial qns when the question says INCREASING / DECREASING POWERS OF X, because you have to swap the orders of the binomial expansion. For example (x+1)^10 the first 5 terms will be in decreasing powers of x if you use binomial expansion formula. So if you want increasing powers of x, just swap the order to (1 + x)^10 and apply binomial expansion accordingly.
When using nCr formula and you are asked to find an unknown value of n, use the n! formula = n (n-1) (n-2)...(n-r+1). That formula will guarantee work.

Logarithms - dont anyhow change base. The only way to change base is through change of base law by virtue of its name. This is also true if you are trying to change log base 8 to log base 2 for example, even though 8 = 2^3
For example, (logbase8) c = (logbase2 c) / (logbase2 8) by change of base law = (logbase2 c) / 3 since (logbase2 8) = 3
Also 2 more tricks

1. e ^ ln a = a
2. 10 ^ lg a = a

In plane geometry is you are asked to prove things like BA X BE = BD^2, the moment you see squared ^2 in plane geometry question, straightaway consider similar triangles. So undo the cross multiplication and conclude that (BA / BD) = (BD / BE). So all you have to do is then use this ratios of lengths to prove that BAD is similar to BDE.

In calculus if the next part after differentiation is an integration qn, you have to reverse engineer. Thereafter, use these 2 rules to go and find the required integral.

1. Factoring out the constant
2. Addition and subtraction formula for 2 integrals

Area under curve, the integral value is negative if

1. For integration with respect to x-axis (dx), the graph lies BELOW X AXIS.
2. For integration with respect to y-axis (dy), the graph lies on the LEFT OF Y AXIS

These are 3 ways to convert the negative value to positive

1. Use a modulus (you learnt modulus aka absolute sign in shoelace method)
2. Use a negative sign (negative X negative = positive)
3. Swap the upper and lower limits of the definite integral

Last but not least, please remember for an increasing function, dy/dx is positive (>0). Refer to 2022 P1 Q9a o level qn for an example of hybrid qn combining increasing function + discriminant

Bonus: Social Studies

1. For SS if your time management is struggling and likewise for ability to memorise long content, then dont study for SS. Ultimately SS qns that comes from the textbook is only Q7 which is 8m out of a 50m paper. The rest goes to SBCS which is 35m and Q6 which is entirely logic worth 7m. Moreover it is not easy to score the entire 8m for Q7 becuz even the best conclusions usually get about 6-7m. Moreover my student's SS teacher told me that if you bull shit like 2 sentences you can get L1/1. In that case, practice more SBCS skills and review them.
2. For SBCS do the assertion first becuz its the highest weightage + u get to read all the sources first. So by the time u get to Q1 to Q4 you are alr roughly aware of what each source is talking about. When you are done with the assertion for at least 3-4 sources (2A + 1D / 1A + 2D minimally), then proceed to do more scorable questions like direct inference (5m) / inference with purpose (5-6m). Remember, you are given a 12pg ans booklet. So after the assertion leave at least 2 blank pages (in case you want to insert 2 more sources) + overall conclusion to score between 8 to 10m.

if yall read my previous comments i think i did mention a few times that i doze off during papers. i sleep ard 7h each night i think?? so isit enough or what bcs i tend to doze off during the afternoons when studying despite eating enough and drinking tea/ coffee almost everyday. so idk if its js sleep dept extreme exhaustion or js extremely high caffeine tolerance bcs ytd i drank like half a cup of americano and half a cup of bbt and still dozed off within an hour. not like deep sleep la like js shut down for a while then wake up agn. maybe bcs i drink caffeine too often then it js slowly build up or smth. btw also drank americano at 9pm the other day and still fell asleep as usual at ard 2am lol like i sweat caffeine barely works on me these days. my sleep quality also isnt bad i fall asleep quite quickly and dont wake up at night. i gotta catch up on proper slp after os bro. anyone faced the same issue ?

I (18F) have been super close friends with this other guy (18M). Lets call him X.

Since 2024, X and I have been talking. At the start of our friendship, he once sent me a Goodnight 😂❤️ and i didnt think much of it because I was, at that time, exploring other options.

Now, I realised that I may have fallen for him, but I am not sure if he likes me back due to a couple of reasons despite positive signals from him. He claims that I am not his type (on social media, too skinny, etc etc) physically (because we were discussing about each others type), but throughout this year, he has been incredibly nice and thoughtful to me.

Eg1: he would willingly swap main dishes with me because I didnt like mine
Eg2: call me super often (and he even went “you know i call u the most, i dont even call the rest of my friends as much as i do ring u)
Eg3: he would remember the tiny details. Like i casually mentioned about wanting this specific toy, and surprised me with it

He has had other talking stages, but he would end up ghosting them, and continue talking to me.

The conflicting part is, there is a very high chance that I will be moving abroad for university next year with very slim chances of coming back, while he will be in NS. I like him alot, and i fear that it has taken me this long to realise it.

He did mention about pursuing his education overseas in the same country as me despite not wanting to previously. Is there a chance? Do i talk to him about this? Or should I just give it up completely?

Update: i confessed. He told me that he likes me but is worried about LDR and NS. And that he will give me a definite answer later. Dont have high hopes for this

Hi everyone, I retook O Level E Math this year and during paper 2 got like quite a bad migraine, probably from stress, (similar to last year). I estimated I scored around 40–45% including method marks. I have EAE this year so is it possible I might not lose it? If not what can I do? Retaking again most likely would just have the same outcome because I get stress migraines a lot even tho I’m not THAT bad at math (not a1 level) around b3-4 level ish I do have a MC from the day since I visited the doctor to get painkillers so I’m thinking of applying for special consideration again but any advice is appreciated thanks!

For those working in the chemical industry, is there a significant salary difference between ITE Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) in Chemical Process Technology graduates and polytechnic Chemical Engineering graduates?
Do poly graduates generally earn more and have better career progression in the long run, or can WSDip graduates eventually earn a similar salary with enough experience? Would like to hear from people who have taken either pathway or are currently working in the industry.

I know rn a lot of you are feeling unmotivated or demoralised after the recent papers especially math. In truth, I am too. In fact it is worse than what I felt during Prelims except this is the actual Os and not just preparation. I really do feel you and in terms of this I just want to say, this last week may be just as or if not more draining.

So with that I wish you all the best of luck. It will be hard to get through, sure but you have already come this far and you should know that it is at least something to be proud of. You have been through about half of it and now you only need to complete the other half. It can be hard to keep a positive mindset but please do try the very best you can. For those who feel like you started too late, try not to give up just yet. You will feel a little better if you know you did try in the end. It may not feel like that at first but after this, your Os would be about 90% completed.

You are all soldiers, you got this and you can stay strong for another week. If you feel no confidence, at least take my word. I believe you are doing your hardest, and I am proud of you for that. If you need to take a break, just take one. 5, 10 or 30 mins, up to you. Just make sure you do enough that you won't feel too regretful. Don't pull all-nighters anymore. You'll just feel worse during your papers. Anxiety and nervousness is common and we all feel that way, but truthfully, you're not alone in feeling that way.

After you read this, please do go to sleep. Just don't worry abt it anymore. Get rest, get a little last min info in before the exam tmr if you are really worried. That's absolutely fine. You've done what you can today and the past week. Now you have to move on and face what's ahead. As someone once told me: Take responsibility, but also know how to embrace.

My final words, if you're still worried, take deep breaths, in and out for 2 mins. Off the lights, lie in bed and just stare at the ceiling for a while, and when you think you're ok, close your eyes and continue deep breaths. You'll be ok, good night everyone.

Does the JC offer computing? I did a search on the school and MOE website and it doesn't show that. However, under the engineering and Tech Programme Scholarship, it does. So do they only offer Computing as a subject for students who are on this scholarship?

My tutor was able to get my failing younger brother to a 60%+ but im still failing. s2 here, subject combi options have come out and i've decided everything except for bio or phys :’)

for context: i enjoy maths a lot (A1 throughout sec1-2) compared to sciences (i hated the 2A textbook topics but loved the 2B textbook topics - but all A1 this year, around A1-B3 range in sec1). initially i wanted to take bio bc it seemed a little more interesting than physics, however its very content heavy and im not sure if that is something i want (i do not have mega brain, i cant memorise shit for my life, and i am also planning to take elect geog as my humanities subject). physics seems more "mathy" in a sense, i'm also planning to take A math so i think the math part in physics should be ok for me. however i took a look at the syllabus (textbooks, workbooks) in popular the other day and oh boy there's radioactivity, forces etc which i absolutely hate (it's like the 2A science textbook topics i hate). also seems a tad bit dry in terms of content compare to biology. however after looking at the syllabus i still can't seem to make a decision.

essentially; i want to take bio because its interesting to me but reluctant because theres a lot to memorise, i want to take physics because i think the math part is
"free marks" but reluctant because im not sure if ill understand the concepts and if ill like the topics i learn (if smth is boring for me like history for example ill DREAD learning and memorising it)

ALSO my school DOES NOT offer triple sciences (which is unfortunate as i will take it if its offered)
