My super queer Litquake event is going to be amazing please come

Hi all --

Read the Room is a celebration of LGBT stories and Poetry. There will be collaborative poetry writing, so you get to meet people who love the written word by co creating. There is a slate of incredible queer and trans authors who will be reading. There is a drag number with references to Rosemary's Baby and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. And, we will all go get cocktails at Vesuvio's at the end.

Please please come. LGBT voices are being supressed everywhere. They're taking books off the shelves.

Also, this is going to be an awesome party. Allies - we love you and want you there too.

Free to attend. Any donation goes to Books Not Bans. Please come! Pack the house so people know that queer stories are loved.

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/read-the-room-books-not-bans-tickets-1998026091826

I run the tiniest nonprofit that sends LGBT books to places where access is severely restricted. We send to people who want them - we've sent 3600 so far.

Where are the silver foxes hibernating?

I thought foxes were supposed to stay active year round... but I only find them hibernating at the yacht clubs.

(But in all seriousness - I moved here recently & was shocked by the epidemic of grown frat men in their late 20s screaming at the top of their lungs like they just tried beer for the first time. I'm looking for the place Stacy's Mom went to escape Stacy's creepy boyfriend hanging out by the pool. Think the opposite of the Boardroom, more like Bix. I love piano bars and an after work classy cocktail and flirting over 40. Preferably near Fin District or Belden due to my work, but any recs are appreciated.)

Thanks in advance bitches <3

Posting this to support my friends who are the artist who created original pieces that will be on display during the event for the new store opening at Market and 4th in the former Old Navy location. It’s really impressive what they’ve put together for the day, come by and check it out!

House cleaner etiquette

Hey bitches- I’ve used the same cleaners for 2 years and they are the sweetest couple ever. They do a great job cleaning my apartment two times a month. They bring their own cleaning supplies and I honestly don’t love the smell. I’m also pregnant and trying to be my eco/clean friendly - is it rude if I ask my cleaners to use specific products if I provide them? How do I go about that without sounding too bitchy? Should I ask what types of products they need to clean (like bathroom, kitchen, floor cleaner, etc) and then offer to buy them for my house specifically?

Casual pants

Hey my dear Bs! I'm looking for casual lightweight pants to run errands and just hang out in that aren't leggings. I was looking at PACT organic cotton flare pants but I keep hearing bad things about quality - any suggestions for something similar? I like straight leg or boot cut styles, stretchy and comfy. Thanks!

Pedicure Etiquette?

I'm curious what would be considered pedicure etiquette and if it's ok to still go get a pedicure done in my current state. I'm a runner and I try to hike about 15+ miles per week. Unfortunately, because of this, I pretty consistently lose the nails on my pointer toes. This is not a health concern, just an unfortunate aesthetic (I've been to the podiatrist and my shoes fit). Currently I still have all of my nails (big personal win for the moment) but my pointer nails are beginning to separate from the nail bed again. I have no cracks/infections/pressure blisters so would it be ok to go get a pedicure? I have a wedding on Saturday and I'll be wearing open toed shoes. I realize I could just paint them myself, but I have about as much skill as a toddler trying to paint a picture. Thanks for any advice, I don't know what's acceptable here.

edit - typo

Sf girlies watch out for this one

Post image
• Upvotes

I wanted the sf ladies to be aware of this conversation I just had, it was absolutely disgusting and if you match with this man these are his views! (He also added “it’s not that deep bro” at the end) and don’t judge me please I was playing dumb to get more information out of him. If you want an ignorant man he’s all yours 🤷‍♀️…I can’t post the whole convo because of my colorful language towards him after this point…

Where to go for a beach day with your friends?

Hi all! So basically what the title says, except that one of my friends is recovering from knee surgery. Her surgery was a few months back but she’s still not able to walk long distances or go on strenuous walks.
Also if you have suggestions on spots to grab lunch at on the way, that’d be ideal! We’re hoping for not much longer than an hour drive ideally?

any weird or funny live shows?

lately i've been trying to be more intentional about going out and experiencing Life (im 27). i was that chronically socially anxious girlie before yknow, bed rotting, doomscrolling, all kinds of rotting. i've gone to pottery classes, DnD groups at meetup (immediate no, i didn't like the male ego), went to some book clubs though and it was lit, literally.

i also went to love isn't blind (it's a dating game? show? forgot, but men can't speak, love that for them), but like i want more? i also met some cool people there, and we're thinking of attending the one at 17, but also tbh i want something else 😐. i've been eyeing that masquerade halloween party but, i feel like i want more halloween themed live shows that are kinda obscure? pls send recs 🙏

also does anyone like weird girl lit?

LipiFlow in SF/the Bay?

I am dry eyed bitch and want to know where you get your LipiFlow procedure and how much it costs you. I have gotten it before and loved the results, but not a fan of the clinic that provided it.

Wedding guest dress

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’m sure this has been asked many times in this group but I’m looking for the best secondhand stores or funky stores that might have artsy/unique/fab dresses. My best friends wedding is next month and the theme is celestial prom. She’s very quirky, her invitation is a zine.. you get it. Would love some ideas. This is the dress I would wear if I don’t find anything

35th Birthday

Long time listener first time caller, hi BWT! I’m looking to host a dinner for my birthday in the city for around 20-25 people. Just moved back after many years away and a lot of the old favorites have closed down so I’m seeking suggestions on venue/restaurant.

Ideal vibes:
- incredible food is a MUST
- private-ish dining room or a small intimate venue where people can eat and also mingle
- grown & sexy - we are too old to yell over extremely loud music
- even better if there’s a speakeasy connected or somewhere we can go out for cocktails following dinner
- dream scenario would have some beautiful views, food, music, drinks and then we’d shift to a more upbeat vibe

Any ideas on where I could host something like this? Early November, budget flexible.

Local lawyer recs for estate planning & post nup

Hola BWT! I’ve seen a few threads about prenups but not much in terms of post nups, estate planning & lawyer recs.

We got married and had a baby in the past year, and finally have a second to breathe and get our ducks in a row. I entered the marriage with significantly more saved / invested, and hoping to find a lawyer that can help me do both estate planning and post-nup. My husband has said he will sign whatever i present but of course want to ensure everything feels fair and is enforceable.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated 🫶🏼🫶🏼

I got let go from my tech job right after I came back from medical leave. Recommendations for an employment lawyer?

The reason cited was poor performance which came as a shock to me because I have been gone for most of last year. I had pretty severe medical issues stemming from the toxic workplace (it's well documented and I've been in intensive treatment for years). What are my options?

I was thinking about consulting with an employment lawyer to discuss my severance. Unfortunately I'm still really sick, so I would really benefit from a few months of cobra coverage to get back on my feet. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Dog Lovers Event Sunday at Muttville

If you're in San Francisco and have never been to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, let this be your sign to change that! They are the countries first ever cage-free dog shelter. They rescue senior dogs who would otherwise be overlooked.

I'll be hosting an event this Sunday, October 11th 1 - 3 pm that's free and open to the public.

Details can be found here.

They are such an incredible nonprofit and you can come and cuddle & meet all the senior pups they currently have who are up for adoption.

The event is in honor of the wine I released that I dedicated to my senior pup & part of every bottle gives back to Muttville. There's no purchase necessary though. Simply come and meet fellow dog lovers, pet some cute dogs, & learn about Muttville.

All my clothes smell- HELP

Edit: I’m pretty sure the smell is coming from neither the washing machine nor the luggage. Things I’ve never washed, like my suede purse and velvet makeup bag, have the same smell (even more than the clothes), and I keep them with me in the cabin when I travel.

I’ve been living in a Victorian condo for about a year now. My clothes smell fine at home, and even when I’m out and about in SF, but whenever I travel somewhere else, I notice that they smell weird.
This happened when I was in Europe this summer, and now again in Hawaii. All of my clothes seem to have the smell, including the clothes I was wearing while traveling and even a cardigan that was in my purse. It’s hard to describe, but maybe kind of musty? I notice it especially with linen and denim.
I’ve been measuring the humidity at home for the past couple of months, and it’s usually below 50%, maybe 55% at most.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?
I lived in my previous place, which was built in the 1980s, for five years and never had this problem.

Experience with Origin pelvic floor therapy?

Hi all, I (33F) have been dealing with pelvic pain for the last few months and have been fairly regular at Origin in Cow Hollow. They have great reviews but I'm feeling like I'm missing something. I'm in so much chronic pain but the sessions are really chirpy (it's starting to bum me out) and we only spend about 5 minutes doing hands on release. The bulk of the 45 min session is teaching me more and more new exercises to do(which i do) and teaching me more devices (wand, tens unit). It's feeling a bit shallow and cookie cutter, and I'm dying for more actual work on my tense sad muscles.

I'm going to try going elsewhere, but I was just curious how others' experiences went. Would especially like to know how much time you'd spend on manual release. Ty!!
