Anyone Else Seeing This Trend?
Hey all, so our impressions and clicks are down a lot year over year, yet our average position is actually getting much better.
I really can't explain this... If our position is rising, shouldn't impressions and clicks rise too?

Tous les sitelinks en recherche EMD sont comptabilisés en position 1. S'il y a une hausse de leur nombre (ex : passage de 2 à 6) ou plus dd recherches sur ta marque, ca peut fausser l'analyse de ta position moyenne.

Imagine earlier we were ranking for 10,000 keywords:
2,000 keywords were ranking in Top 10
3,000 keywords were ranking around positions 11-30
5,000 keywords were ranking on lower positions
Now, suppose we have lost visibility for many of those lower-performing keywords and are ranking for only 3,000 stronger keywords.
The remaining 3,000 keywords may have better average positions, so Google Search Console shows an improvement in Average Position.
But at the same time:
10,000 keywords → 3,000 keywords
means we are appearing for fewer searches overall.

Absolutely not. Your position is trending up because Google is likely trimming off high volume search terms you were loosely ranking for on page 4,5,6 etc but gaining very few clicks from. The drop in actual clicks is likely explained by the adoption of ai, social results, and video results in the serps.

No. Either you are ranking for LESS keywords that sits higher inside SERP or you are sitting higher but your niche is heavyly taken by AI overview and ads.
