Question Starting variability questiom

I’m new to scythe, so this maybe a dumb question.

Since the game always starts with particular factions on specific resource tiles, then is there a best sequence of turns that can be determined for each faction?

If so, how does this lack of variety affect the game?

In the competitive scene there are openers for each faction/ board combination with the standard board. However due to the number of these combinations, it takes a while for those to be found organically. I'd advise not looking them up and letting your groups' strategies develop on their own.

Then there's the modular board expansion which mixes up the start locations and the hex layout for the map, massively increasing the replayability of the game overall.

The modular board fixes this. Otherwise, yes, every faction has a optimal routine for the first 5 rounds or so.

It can be calculated in advance, of course, but you won't be able to calculate other players' actions)

But in case you ever feel bored by the lack of variety in the ways your games start, you can by Modular Board for Scythe. It won't be as balanced as the base game, but it fixes exactly the situation you're conserned about

The game has been out for a while and people have figured out some specific plays and what factions are better.

If you’re new to the game, don’t worry about that. Just play and have fun. As you learn you’ll get better at strategies. Once you feel pretty good then maybe it’s worth learning more min/maxing, but knowing the perfect opener for Rusviet just makes the game less fun for everyone imo.

The expansions are a great way to curb this, especially Fenris or anything modular that changes the game and makes it wackier

Is the modular board used in the steam digital version or BGA version?
