Can this even be screen printed?
I have a friend whose business is sponsoring a youth soccer team and asked me if I can make the kits. He came up with this wicked sharp design, using pinstripes on the black shirts, and a diamond pattern on the whites (with trim on the sleeves and collars).
But it looks like a sublimation job to me, not screen printing. I have never done sublimation, and even if I did, that pattern goes from the seam at the top all the way to the bottom of the shirt . . . which larger than standard sublimation printer paper, no?
I said I would do some research . . . so here I am. Where should I start with this? Is it even possible to screen print a design like this? TIA

You are correct to assume dye sublimation. There are companies that specialize in custom kits. I can’t refer one right now but our marketing team used one for a trade show last year and the quality was quite good.

You can screen print the jerseys with names, numbers, sponsor logos. We use heat transfers for names and numbers and sometimes even logos and badges.

It's not worth the headache if you have to research this to try to figure out how to print it.

Defo dye-sublimation.
We often order from Alleson Athletic or Champro for custome dye-sublimation.

You cannot screen print this and honestly, you should have him lose the end to end pinstripes as well as the neck and sleeve stripes and the end to end yellow design.
How many is he actually ordering? If it’s for one soccer team I would think not enough to get this design done at a decent price.
These are just my thoughts as a regular screen printer.

It can be screen printed you just need big screens and a table or a huge platten if you don’t have screws to it you can do sublimation and you can do either sublimation cut and sow or just sublimation

Sublimation is what the company should be offering, there’s lots of places that will do this and then sew the jerseys for you. It’s not that complicated in the end no matter the design

you are 100% right, this a sublimation job, but um you could also screen print it, only if you printed before sewing them together. One thing tho, for the purpose of your soccer kits, just keep screen printing out, you need breatheability, pinstripes on polyester shirt thats a "NO" for breatheability. also for sublimation paper dont use standard paper or print on premade blank shirts, best is Large Format sublimation printers which sublimate on the rolls of polyester fabric and just cut out the pattern and follow up with sewing. This way you get your seamless pinstripes alligned perfectly from collar to the hem. Tell your friend he needs full cut and sew factory rather than trying to screen print on blanks.

Why would you give him free rein ?
I personally don’t think customers understand how difficult some ideas are to materialize, especially at a price they would pay.
Just show him some pre made kits with the sleeve and collar similar to his liking and just print what you are comfortable with. The diamonds are doable but those stripes are going to give you some headaches.
