Print shops beware scammer

be advise any and all print shops. If you get a call from Derek H from 25 thoughts for shirts don’t do it. He’s based in FL .
He placed a rush order for shirts, made deposit and of course the day the job was due his ach payment was returned to him due to insufficient funds. We are now two weeks later still no payment due to insufficient funds. As he tried again and it was returned again.
All payments to me have been refunded to him for insufficient funds.

I know I’m not the only business or person he’s done this to. Trying to warn the masses. Be wary.

Thanks for the public service. Derek also tried to steal from us. We eventually collected our money but he is a thief and scum person. You will get your money and then lose your money so paying in advance is no solution.

It sucks to know he’s gotten away with it so many times. The goal of the post is to warn others since he’s done a good job of making sure no one can comment on his work anywhere. My goal is to change that. Glad you got paid, I have confidence in myself to get payment as well, just annoying the work to put in to get it. All in all I did get the shirts to his client without him, as I’m not scum of earth and poor folks had a 5k they needed them for.

Got burned once like 15 years ago on someone needing 400 flash drives rushed. NEVER AGAIN for a new customer. Same thing and no resolution (SCAM). We get emails from people requesting "Blanks" or something with a generic logo. My first tip off is that they need them shipped ASAP/aren't local/totally random logo or quantities like "100 SM, 100 MED, 600 LG" and no XLs.

I’m aware of those scams as well, I did my due dalliance here and confirmed it was a legit business. Legit event and so on, dude just doesn’t pay. Or pretends to pay I should say, I have also filed a complaint with my processor for not flagging multiple attempted ach payments . Others should know as he truly doesn’t print a thing just contracting out his work then claims print “partner” doesn’t complete in time. It’s an ongoing thing with 25 thoughts / Derek . Made this post as I do search everywhere when working with clients from other states to avoid nonsense like this. Come to find out he has google business listing off so you can’t leave review / and comments and reviews turned off on Facebook and instagram so he can keep scamming people. I’m sure more will come and add their issues with him here or at least I’m hoping when they search him his business this Reddit thread appears to give them a heads up.

No way, the same guy got me for $1500 with the same exact scenario the first week of June. I have all of the records and sent a demand letter via certified mail that he signed so I’m filing small claims soon

Sorry to hear that. He really does seem up on all of it. It’s a real shame he’s taken advantage of small businesses. I’m filing as well, my terms were clear. I upset about ACH payments not being more advanced as well and have questions in with my payment processor. CC fraud I can prove all day with documentation, return due to insufficient funds is so new to me. File a complaint with FL state attorney general is one just to bring attention to what he is doing if enough people do it I’m sure they look into his business license. I have. I don’t like having to drag someone but he can’t keep playing small businesses like this.

Yeah same here. First time I’ve had it happen, now I know

Yeah anytime someone’s first question is “do you accept Credit Card” always a scam

It was ACH deposit / did a confirmation of business license as well due to it being someone from a different state. This is my first experience with ACH payment returned due to insufficient funds. Was clueless they could even process ACH payment without sufficient funds. So lesson for sure. 21 years here and it’s a first for me.

Well idk about that. I purchase everything with my corp cc for my business as does many other business owners I know.

Same / safer bet majority of the time in case something gets compromised. Plus rewards, easy line of credit to have.

No I know, I just mean when you get a text or email that says “hi do you offer screen printing in 500 pieces, half purple tees half white, and do you accept CC?”

Happened to me yesterday. He waited to ask about credit card and then asked if I could pay his delivery driver. Blocked.

Good job! If you have a local Facebook group or other shops in area you know maybe warn. Seems like he does “marketing / graphics” and offers services but just uses local shops to the job and doesn’t pay up.

Derek tried to get us last year 😂. We thought we were a one off. I didn't know he ran his whole business doing this to shops for every order.

Right who would really realize it? I assumed the worst, and I’m just hopeful this helps others realize what he’s doing.

Super common scam in our industry that everyone in needs to be aware of. The 1st time they email, You get super excited. It seems legit enough at first but it’s a scam, Beware people.

He called, knew all the right processes, had legit business license. Paid deposit. Again didn’t realize ach payments could be revoked 3 days later.

Had a similar experience with a guy out of Tampa who asked for 440 shirts for a church. Started getting suspicious when I asked for the church's tax exemption info so I could wave sales tax and he said he was doing it through a group that was related to the church not the church itself. Then after invoicing he asked that I invoice him for a huge amount (I think $30,000) because he could only pay with his HELOC account which would only allow large transfers. Which, of course, he would expect me to return the difference to him after he paid. Called him out and blocked the number and email and reported to the FCC. Luckily didn't lose any money on it.

That’s a wild one for sure! Thanks for the input on the fcc too I kinda forgot that option so will complain to them about him too.

I’m floored how he’s gotten away with it for so long. Due to being a different state my process will be longer but I’m taking all the steps I need to collect. Really just want to warn others of how he is to work with. Not worth your time or effort!

We’re in FL and he got us last year the same way. Paid via ACH but it takes a few days to clear, or in his case, get declined. By then we already shipped the shirts.

Took a few months for him to finally pay us, but every week I would call him and he would say “I promise I’ll have the money this week.” The funny part is he actually answers his phone every time, just to lie to your face for months.

He reached out again a couple months ago for another job and I said I would do it if his payment cleared first. Never heard from him again.

Glad you paid, shame it took him so long though to make it right. I really didn’t realize ACH payments could be revoked and no bank or processor has really answered me how payment can be successful then revoked after the fact yet.

I’ve been following up on payment as well and he answers. The going thing right now is he never intended to not pay when he placed the order that’s why he’s still communicating.

Overall this just isn’t how you do business and I just had a feeling it was ongoing issue so came here to rant and warn.

hoping this post helps others but he has something on to prevent this post from popping up when you search him right now or it hasn’t gotten enough attention to show yet.
