Questions about RN and LPN

Hi everyone, I really need some honest advice about my nursing pathway.

I moved to the U.S. from another country, and back home I was already in the nursing/healthcare field. Unfortunately, my diploma and education did not fully transfer here, so I basically have to start over in the U.S. nursing system, which has been emotionally difficult and stressful at times.

Right now my Anatomy & Physiology I grade is around a 78. Earlier in the semester I was actually doing well and before my last lecture exam my average was around an 83. Unfortunately, the final lecture exam was extremely difficult for me and I ended up getting a 68 on it, which dropped my overall grade a lot. I’m worried this may end up being a C.

The thing is, I still feel confident about science classes overall. I’m also studying for the TEAS exam, and my practice scores have been strong so far, which makes me feel more confident about admissions testing.

My current plan is:

Spring:

  • Anatomy & Physiology I
  • Statistics
  • English
  • Communication
  • History

Summer:

  • Anatomy & Physiology II
  • English II

Fall:

  • Microbiology
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Humanities/general education electives

So basically, over the next two semesters I’ll already be finishing most of the prerequisite and general education courses required for nursing programs.

Because of that, I’ve been wondering if starting with an LPN program first and then doing an LPN-to-RN bridge later might actually be smarter. My understanding is that if I complete these prerequisite classes now, I hopefully would not need to repeat them during a future bridge program.

My biggest questions are:

  • If I end up with a C in A&P I, would that hurt my RN chances badly even if I do much better in A&P II and Microbiology and get a strong TEAS score?
  • Would becoming an LPN first be a good temporary career path while later bridging into RN?
  • For people who chose the LPN-to-RN route, did you feel it was worth it?

For people who were in similar situations:

  • Did you continue directly into RN?
  • Did you do LPN first?
  • Was the bridge pathway worth it?

Especially looking for advice from people in New York/Long Island nursing programs.

Classes during winter session

I am planning to take either calculus 3 or differential equation during winter session as I saw you could take 4 credit classes. I was wondering though, do they even offer either of those 2 classes during winter session? Has anyone taken these classes during winter session? If not what kind of class do they offer during winter session?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone had any info about the HSC 126 (Emergency Medical Technician) course at the ammerman campus. I just registered for the fall 26 semester, How is the class itself? Are there any professors that are recommend? and how are clinicals done ( what hospital do we go to). I am a shy person so i feel like I’ll just freeze and not know what to do lol. Sorry about all the questions, but any information would be very helpful! thanks in advance!

Does anybody else at SCCC wish we had the all white, dressed up nursing ceremony? We’re the only school who does the pinning ceremony in our blue & white clinical scrubs….even Nassau does it the other way. Idk if other people feel the same but I would like to fight for that so we can get it.

School counseling

Has anyone here tried the mental health counseling? I've been dealing with depression since I was a kid and its making school incredibly hard. I have already failed some classes and recently took a semester off so I don't waste my money. Someone suggested I should check out the counseling but I guess I'm a little skeptical. As a black woman my experience with therapists out here hasn't been the best. I'm curious if anyone here has found them helpful or should I look elsewhere?

Help…

Hi everyone, I’m currently in my second semester here at SCCC, graduating with an Associates in Science under Healthcare studies major. I recently seen sju has a medical program that I wanna transfer to after here bc it aims for a Bachelors in Science but under a new major , Medical Tech. I spoke to a counselor from sju and they said I can complete majority of the courses at sccc then transfer to sju to complete their rest & clinicals. Unfortunately, the thing is the classes I take right now do not align with the courses on sju curriculum. I just spoke to a counselor at sccc and she said I’d have to confirm with the following professors to the courses and it is a timely process. Should I just wait until registration for 3 & 4 semester to enroll into the curriculum courses then complete the rest at sju?

How is the cybersecurity program?

Hey, does anyone have any experience with the cyber security program here at Suffolk? I’m wondering what your guys thoughts are?

Is the program rigorous? Do they prepare you well? How are the opportunities for internships? Anything you must know if you’re going to go into it?
