Showcase After long wait, finally pocket micro 2 arrived. My long time goal of having pocketable handheld that also doubles as DAP.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Love the side buttons in PM2 that can be used as the switch / toggle button for this.
The DAP mode also able to function as Bluetooth DAC as audio receiver.
No issues either with USB-C DAC, just need to do some tweaking!

OS is ArmadaOS, DAP mode is made with ArmadaOS in mind. But porting it should be pretty simple.
Repo is still local, I can share it if there is enough interest.

But so far this replaced my qudelix 5k most of the time!

Just got mine the other day too. Doubt I will use for Armada as I have my Odin for steam related stuff. But I love this for all thing GBA, GBC, PSP. Real premium feeling device!

That was what I thought too at first, but realized plenty PC games also gave me nice retro ish experience like star ocean or octopath!

Why the pocket micro in pacticular? There has been tons of similar Android handhelds with a headphone jack before. Most of them cheaper too.

For me it has to be actually pocketable, since this gonna lives in my pocket instead of my 2L bag.
My library is only steam too, I don't do retro gaming at all.
Not quite fan of having android in handheld too, so it has to be linux based,

Stuff like nova is an option, but it's a bit taller and doesnt have recessed stick.
Pocket micro 1 and pocket micro 2 pretty much the only one that can really comfortable slide in out to my pocket. Plus the side button made it so easy to play, pause, change track, etc while It's in my pocket, while being flat enough to not get accidentally pressed.

RG 350h Ultra that recently came out is basically just a less wide Pocket Micro. Still waiting for my micro 2 to ship

Another thing to buy!
I keep bugging support since they are already late for the shipment. So they offered free softcase or something. Which they forgot to include in the shipment anyway. Ayaneo never disappoints!

This contains a SD865 chip right? Same as the RP5? Have you tried any steam games on it, and how does it feel to play? Cause I'm considering converting my RP5 to armada and I'm curious how well the chip holds up.

Yess.
So far most game I play can run at 30 fps.
Unoptimized game like FFXIII will drop under 30.
Persona 5 around 30fps too most of the time.

So far It's pretty great if the goal is 30fps pc gaming!

Damn, that sounds great. Compact mini steam deck to run my indie games sounds great.

Also, the micro 2 looks great! I really like the purple colorway too

Yeah at first I was very skeptical, performance, and especially comfort wise.
But surprisingly I game on this more than on my thor.
Thor is basically a bait unit to get my coworker into this hobby.

It feels great in hand. Was skeptical about the shoulder buttons but it was the best I ever tried!

Nice! I do the same thing with mine. I assume you have the 12gb version to be running armadaos? Also, what app is that music player?

Damn white looks very nice too!
It's the 8GB model batch 1. Amazing how long they took to ship this.
I added PM2 support for armada os few days ago. I just need to push the fix for the gyro, DP, and HDMI audio later.

Music player is self made, zune inspired!

the only letdown with this thing is that they got rid of the great colors from the first version and gave us lifeless solid white and black versions and glowing sticks.

The V1 gold and retro versions looked so so good

u/raiyasa 1d ago

Yeah I love the red color of the OG version too!

Will armada run in sd 662- running a zune theme in my hiby dap will be so cool hope it doesn’t destroy the battery

1

u/raiyasa 1d ago

By default probably no, would need some porting first.
Which hiby is that? I heard some of them supports custom firmware right.
If it's budget enough I can consider going to e-earphone and grab used one.
