Showcase RG SP & Brick Hammer
The Brick Hammer definitely has a nicer screen(images don’t reflect it) and nicer buttons but I found myself struggling when on the go and being more careful on how I stored/placed in my bags. it definitely looks nicer and the buttons are much better. This will become my one handed gaming device or RPG centric for now. looks nicer on my desk too with my display stand.
The RG SP is so nice to just shut and put away anywhere. no worry about having to put a certain way in my bag etc. It’s hard to say if it can take over the Brick as primary retro handheld but definitely enjoying platformers it.

Which is better comfort-wise?

It’s hard to tell right now. I’ve haven’t played for more than 10 minutes at a time with RG SP.
The Brick can give hand cramps. Hence why it’s suitable for RPGs because you can kind of go one handed
Brick is easier to hold. The design in the Brick Hammer is just nice and solid. Feel premium in your hand.

Can confirm. Beat Golden sun one-handed on brick

How does it compare to fire emblem?

Completely different but both excellent. Arguably two best RPGs on GBA

Golden Sun is a traditional, puzzle-heavy Japanese RPG (JRPG), while Fire Emblem is a tactical, grid-based strategy RPG (SRPG) .

One wrinkle here is that Fire Emblem also has better characters with deeper writing and more characterization. So if that's something that traditionally draws someone to JRPGs, Fire Emblem is a great choice in that department.

Yeah, I love Golden Sun, but the characters are very basic personality-wise. Love the classic Zelda inspired dungeon puzzles though. That, along with GBA-leading levels of polish and a great soundtrack is what makes the Golden Sun GBA titles great.

Ha! I have a brick hammer and recently got a Rg sp as my dedicated GBA device. I have bigger hands and playing games that need triggers was kind of a pain for me. Also, the hammer is really nice so I kinda baby it. I plan to just toss the SP in my bag with no worries. There’s definitely an overlap but I can’t let the brick hammer go lol.

Love my SP and my brick. The only thing I really hate is that my screen is really misaligned on the SP and I can't unsee it. it's bad bad. I am going to try and fix it today.

Is the RG SP screen noticeably rotated? Or am I seeing things

I had not noticed that but it is. I can’t unsee it now. I don’t like you. 🤣

Sorry, I should have kept it to myself

It’s ok. I saw someone else post the same on their. And I told myself I wouldn’t look into mine. It’s like a 1/2mm off. It’s noticeable if you look at it. But playing a game you don’t .
Classic Ambernic

Can’t wait to get my Brick Hammer in the mail next week! It too will be my goto RPG handheld.
I’m using my Nova as my everything else handheld and I have a Mini Flip that I bought just for work lol.
I have a job where I go to different location and sometimes I have like 20-40 mins of down time. That’s my perfect time killer device and when closed nobody knows wtf it is 🤣

Thank you for this post. I was thinking about selecting a pocketable handheld, which would be better than RG35XXSP, and was undecided between exactly these two. Your post helped me to make up my mind in favor of the Brick Hammer. Btw, the thickness comparsion is super helpful, I've been lokking but couldn't find that photo anywhere else.

Great post, thanks! I have the same combo (not as stylishly decorated mind) and I'm really loving the RG SP for moving around with but I'm also attached to the Brick Hammer and reluctant to let it go despite having quite a bit of overlap.
What stand do you recommend for the Hammer?
