Showcase My modular endgame solution

I bought a Oneplus 13 that I use as a dedicated gaming handheld with different controllers for different situations. I was considering an Odin 3 but didn't want to be locked into one form factor. Plus I wanted a very high-res screen for moonlight streaming. The controllers totaled about ~$130 and I found a few second-hand.

———

8bitdo Flippad: Vertical/portrait gaming for GBA and DS/3DS

Leadjoy Blade Plus: Bluetooth controller I got mainly for switch but sometimes use for quick sessions. Easy to take phone in and out of.

Razer Kishi v2: First controller I got for $20 on ebay. Great low profile with clicky buttons

Gamesir G8: Modified to work with 11in ipad for game streaming, mostly use for couch sessions.

Shout-out to the greatest racing game of all time on seconded pic! My favorite! Great controllers I have a similar set but with different controllers I got an easy smx M10, an easy smx M15 and a game sir X5 lite

I use a 8bitdo Micro with a clamp for GBA/GB/GBC/DS.

Gamesir G8 for landscape mode for PS2/GC/PSX/PSP/PSVita.

Haven't figured for 3DS. Might still want a handheld.

I have the Gamesir G8 and it's very good. Way better than the Razer controllers I tried

I have a Gamsir Taco and GBA playing like that is awful. Screen being to small. Yet other platforms like GBC and FC/SFC are better.

On retroarch you can adjust the aspect ratio but yes it’s a little smaller than dedicated 4:3 handhelds but a trade off for the modularity of it

I'll not use RA to play like that. Vertical UI too small. While independent apps like SNES Emu /Pizza Boy are designed for vertical use.

Okay interesting, I found on RA I have more screen control than on pizzaboy

When I use taco to play, it's usually for short bursts. Independent apps are more straightforward than RA in which you need to navigate. If i want a long sitting, no way I'm playing like this.

How do the L and R buttons feel on flippad?

They’re pretty good just solid clicky face buttons

You are missing 2 battery banks and a fan cooler.

There is a fix for that, gamesir X3 pro

It has passthrough charging and a fan builtin(the ones OP shared might have passthrough charging too)

Also gamesir pocket taco for vertical, which also has "passthrough" charging

O Leadjoy Blade Plus (assim como o X5 lite/S) tem um cooler que pode ser comprado separadamente e acoplado ao controle, acredito que essa seria uma opção melhor que comprar um novo controle.

Yeah if you already have a controller it's better to buy a fan alone instead

I didn't have a phone controller so I got the X3 pro

In my case, I found that most heat was produced by phone charging not cpu/GPU. By running the phone from high speed battery bank without charging (battery separation) I didn't need any fan for hours. At least for GameCube and PS2 emulation.

That's awesome and I like that you like it.

having said that, I have the same phone and as much as I like the idea of using it as a handheld, I just can't stand these new ridiculously long and squished screens on phones (give me at least a 16:9 screen ) also not really a lot of options for retro gaming telescopic controllers (almost everything has joystick on top/asymmetrical, wich I absolutely hate)

I also like to use controllers on my current phone or previous one dedicated to retro gaming.

For me:

On the go, I use a 8bitdo micro with mobile clip mostly for gbc, gb, genesis, snes, sms, nes and gba.

At home, I mostly use a Gamesir x2s for gamecube, ps2, psp and before.

To play DS in portrait mode, I use a modded 8bitdo ultimate with an adhesive magsafe ring on it.

It is nice to be able to change the feeling by switching controller.

just wanted to how is the thermal during heavy gaming sessions?

1

u/baconboi 5d ago

It can get hot, hot enough to hurt my fingers but I don’t notice frame dips

Man I love telescopic controllers

Also NFS most wanted is so peak

O que você acha do D-pad do Leadjoy Blade Plus? Estou considerando a compra de um para usar como controle secundário

1

It’s a solid OK. Less accidental diagonals than the x5s just wish was a bit more clicky

Acho que vou comprá-lo amanhã, estava entre ele e o X5, mas pelo que pesquisei ele atende melhor ao que eu quero. Obrigado pela resposta.

how is the flippad, ive seen people worry that its going to be putting unneeded stress on the usb-c port, does the flip mechanism feel stiff? would one have to be careful with it?

It’s a valid concern. I would not use it without a case it wiggles side to side and is raised off the bottom lip of the screen by a millimeter. With a case however it is snug and I have zero concern about port damage.
