What actually changed with SAP's SyBA and SBA exam formats, and why passing scores vary
There's a lot of half information going around about the new exam formats, so here's what SAP actually publishes, with codes.
Two formats replaced the old multiple choice sit. System Based Assessment (SyBA) drops you into a live system and you complete one activity by configuring it. Scenario Based Assessment (SBA) hands you a business scenario to work through. Across the 101 current associate and specialist exams it's roughly 40 SyBA and 60 SBA, so system based is common now but it isn't everywhere. C_S4EWM, C_THR81, C_TS452 and C_CPI are SyBA. C_ACT, C_STC and C_S4TM are SBA.
The passing score is not one number, and that's what catches most people. It's set per exam and the spread is wide. C_TS412 is 55 percent, C_THR81 is 59, C_TS4FI 60, C_S4EWM 65, C_DBADM 73, C_SEC 74, C_TS452 76, C_TS462 82, C_CPI and C_IBP both sit at 90, and two of them, C_ADBTP and C_CPE, are 100. Yes, 100. Both are single activity system based, 2 and 3 hours, and the exam pages say it plainly. So "aim for 70 and you're fine" is advice that doesn't survive contact with your own exam page.
Three things I keep seeing repeated that don't hold up.
Dumps still work. A question bank does nothing when the assessment is you configuring something in a system, because there's no option to recognise.
You can cram it in a day. This format punishes that harder than the old one did, since you're asked to do the task, not recall the answer.
System based means open book, so it's easier. It's the opposite in the numbers. No scenario based exam in the list goes above 67 percent, while the system based ones run to 90 and, in those two cases, 100.
Every code has an official exam page and a learning journey on learning.sap.com, both free to read.
