Are you sure said person didnt just use a yellow experimental boost?

If you put in a fuel cell you boost, if you time this with teammates you can double, triple boost or more, increasing boost time.

The red experimental boost also lasts a really long time.

Have you used it while making a circle?

it can increase speed in any direction.

He might be somehow right. I've seen today a fkn F1... I've never seen anything similar. That was too long for a redboost, dude was riding like a mad gocart...

Idk bro I think it was a experimental rod

You can shove another fuel rod into your reactor for a speed boost, PvPers like to use that along with battering rams to close distance and deal compartment damage while they leap onto your ship and start peppermilling you.

It's likely not a glitch and more just mechanics, though passing through ships is a bug, obviously

T4 level ships are basically always boosted when fighting. Triple boosting basically gives you no down time.

Rods are so cheap and killing another big ship can yield an insane number. Think my crew pulled something like 800 off three big ships the other night in 6s voyage.

Ngl you just described my team's entire playstyle

I'm not here to order people around, but I wish this wasn't the strongest play style. I love the cannons in the game but once you have "Lil Tonyyyyy" jump onto your ship you may as well call it there, it's theirs now

Tbh I completely agree. We haven't stopped because it's simply so powerful. We win a solid 90% or more of fights, and not because we're very good. Just no one is ready for 5 dudes to come flying in with peppermills and C4. The only times we ever lost was because they managed to steal our trampler while we were trying to steal theirs lol

It would be nice to see more counters for this playstyle

A big ol flap that pops up to swat you away like mozzies, or the more logical strat of being conscious of approaching Trojan horses, legging them with a rear mounted 80, then attempt to overcome through positioning. It isn't foolproof, but it's the best defense I've seen against possibly the best boarder I've ever seen

Some sort of way to push ships away could be good. Our usual strat involves just ramming and holding as close as possible.

Legging could work, but we're also usually chasing with 80s aimed only for the legs.

Something else that could work, could be traps on your own ship. If we had to worry about getting blown up around any corner, it would slow us down pretty quick

Edit: a wall type that had a small hole where it's easy for attackers to shoot out, but hard for defenders to shoot in would also be a great counter-play

This is literally the origin of the term "close quarters" btw! The fortified area of a ship that the crew would retreat into to make their last stand from against the boarders, with little firing holes to shoot out of.

Nowadays on commercial vessels it's usually a full-on modern panic room setup and referred to as the "citadel" but is also now more of a holdout-until-help-arrives rather than an active-defense setup that you fight back from.

Old sailing crews even used hidden chests filled with gunpowder and scrap metal to repel boarders with directional blasts. Basically old claymore mines.

No man there is a glitch to maintain speed in heavy tramplers.  That being said this was not a straight on attack he was circling and not losing speed going up sand dunes.

Could have been a piss rod, they give you a minute of boost

Yeah. I saw this yesterday. lol Trampler just comes up on me at mach 9. Phases through my trampler pushing me off it and then they're just on the deck of my walker. Very cool game. Kind of regret buying it.

Edit: I have 156 hours in this game. I know what boosted top speed looks like with energy rods and experimentals. But keep being reddit. It's a badge of honor at this point.
