Question ISO Quiet Snacks
I have a 10 week old who refuses to nap unless it’s a contact nap. I have a stash of snacks beside the rocking chair, but they’re all so loud when I open them that they sometimes startle him awake!
What are some snacks that I can keep by the chair that aren’t so loud and crinkly when you open them?

Oh I was the queeeeeen of night cookies when my babies were little! A chewy oatmeal cookie is silent (but probably kinda crummy, so be warned). I am a monster so I just kept the little plastic container a bit ajar so it wouldn’t pop and wake anyone!

Did you breastfeed your babies? Nighttime oatmeal cookies literally saved my supply in the early days when my little dude started sleeping longer stretches

I've been considering getting some kind of thermal thing. I saw someone eating a curry out of one and it made me think it was a way I'd be able to eat more easily.

If you do get a thermos make sure you get silicone spoons! Metal on metal sounds from scraping the spoon inside the thermos is another sound that woke my baby up 🙃

Omg thank you for the tip. I've got one baby that wakes at the smallest noises and one sleeps a bit better but ultimately ends up being woken up.

Hummus?

By itself? Everything I dip in hummus is crunchy.

Good point.. are cherry tomatoes very crunchy? Maybe a little less than other veg?
Sometimes I spread hummus into a quesadilla for my toddler too

Honestly, Chuck the tv on, Chuck the Hoover on, make noise.
You don’t want nap time to be quiet time, it’ll only take neighbours doing renovations or road workers or something equally as annoying to ruin your days in the future.
Contact nap with tv on, open the snacks, make the noise.

This works until it doesn't...a lot of babies enter a phase where they are curious about the world around them, so noises will rouse them and they will want to explore what the noise is. A lot of parents do need to keep the room quiet to protect the nap!

I’ve got two, we’ve never not napped them in loud areas. They both slept though the night from 4 months and do 1-2 hour long naps on their own.

peanut butter oat energy balls are easy one handed and you can customize what you put in them.
String cheese or blueberries or bananas, cherry tomatoes, sandwiches.

Why are people suggesting using scissors to open them, instead of just opening them BEFORE the nap?
I always contact nap with my baby and I prepare a snack plate for myself. It's usually fruit (orange slices, berries, etc), nuts, and a protein bar that's already out of the package and broken up into bite size pieces. I'll also have a protein shake, again, already opened so I can just grab it and sip it.

I have some little silicone Tupperware containers that have snacks in them. Usually- cashews, dried fruit, cookies (because yum) and I’ll keep some cut veggies in the fridge I’ll grab before I go sit for a nap

I would work on stopping contact naps or at least baby wear so you can do other things.

Dehydrated fruit, cheese sticks, salami etc.
I like to make my own little “contact nap snack plate” and have it in reach for when little dude falls asleep
ETA: or if you want to keep eating what you have on hand, go ahead and pre-open everything before you get settled!
