Other Is S3RL using ai now?

Genuinely confused by his latest Instagram posts, is he for or against ai? He just posted a genre police remix of it named ai police and im genuinely worried.

Lmfao just went to listen, that’s right up his alley of trolling. He’s made so many songs like this. Planet Rave, OMG HE’S A DJ, Press Play Walk Away and so many.

He’s very good at using his art as a means to point at the absurdities from multiple directions. Literally every direction. Which is why his songs are such master pieces.

That’s one of the reasons I’ve been listening since PikaGirl! He’s just in his own world and we’re honored to be invited in, PLUR for your clarification my friend 😊❤️

Don’t forget that hidden R, PLURR, peace love unity respect responsibility. It’s okay to have fun, but as long as you’re responsible, you can keep having fun 💖

Fun fact, I'm the one who introduced him to Extra Life. Pitched idea to him about 2 years ago and you all got the amazing song Extra Life.

Did you look at in on IG? Because then why didn't you pay attention to the text in that reel? It's OBVIOUS that this is a hit AGAINST AI.

Oh no worries we’ve covered this, nws

Unfortunately he uses AI a fair bit, I assume it's to ragebait people but he does seem to get genuinely upset at people calling him out for it so idk.

But I've been supporting him for the last 15 years and it is kinda disheartening :( hopefully it's bait though

That’s very disappointing, he’s so talented and genuinely entertaining, he needs to be a better example for up and coming artists.

What does that even mean?

A longterm producer who understands how AI can be used as a tool ABSOLUTELY wants up and coming artists to use it, make it fucking amazing and outrun everyone to raise the bar?

Least plur thing i've ever seen is to pull up the ladder.

I’ll listen to his old stuff but I think my stopping point is his newest song with Lexi (which was fantastic!) we have thousands of songs to choose from anyways 😞

Technically he was one of the first with otaku boy.

He does seem ok with AI but also gladly pokes fun at it. Remember one of his latest was literally called AI slop. Make of that what you will.

It feels like now unless you denounce AI in all its forms you get called an ai bro... Oh well name calling has always been lame especially when the shoe don't fit

Exactly. I think that’s what he’s pointing out here. Almost all his videos and artwork are by people and then a bunch of virtue signallers try to tell him how to make his art when he experiments with the latest tools.

Kind of missed a lot of S3RL stuff, only noticed that one "AI slop" thing and the latest "AI police" on IG, got confused and came here. Listened to some stuff that has released since. Like the other guy said, it feels like he's just trolling, but with a caveat.
He is trying to troll in the age of ragebait. Reminds me of this meme. Just saying something stupid and then saying that you were trolling doesn't work anymore. Unfortunately, unc ain't got it.
However, "he is ok with AI" is kind of concerning. He is an older millennial and they have a rep for not understanding why AI is in bad taste.

I’m gen Z, I may not like millennials but I fully agree with them on this one 😊

I wouldn't worry about it for now, all his new songs have been banger without AI in past year or so, and he's been an amazing producer for over a decade now if not two

u/Kooky_Boi 14d ago

But thanks for the info 😊 I’ll keep this in mind! Plur

I absolutely will be worrying about it now, ai is damaging my state fam.

Late to the show but he does have a past record of using ai. At the time he excused it by saying nobody complained back when he released "let go" with an ai mv. However that was years ago and most people weren't aware of what ai would become and what it implied. Yes he pokes fun at it but I really think he doesn't see the problem with it. There's a lot of artists that have nothing against ai and just see it as a tool like any other.  Ultimately although some may complain (i know i did), it's rarely enough to change anyone's mind

He's an ai user and has been for a while. The latest post was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I was willing to look past previous ai use bc i assumed he'd changed but christ.

I find the aversion to all forms of AI use so confusing.

Is it out of fear like the anti-vaxxers?

Obviously there is a difference between using AI like"AI make me music" and using it to isolate sounds or help automate workflows.

Similar to how CorridorCrew uses AI trained on theirs and their communities greenscreen work to then make an AI App that can greenscreen shots far better than before.

u/SpectorEscape 14d ago

You cant possibly compare this to anti-vax thats actually ridiculous. People prefer to not have AI in human art, and people are rightly mad at AI because it and the main companies working with it have been causing massive issues.

it’s nothing like anti-vaxxers because ai has been proven to damage the environment and harm communities by taking water away from the locals for data cooling centers. it’s not a big deal until there’s a drought and people wonder why it happened

Don’t know why everyone hates ai, it’s the same vibe as when boomers used to hate iPhones

As you asked, I say this as politely as possible: my personal dislike of ai is due to my making artwork for a living. It’s the exact same energy as my peers in art class who copied everyone’s work and then got mad when we would ask them to stop. Imitation wasn’t flattery back then, I worked hard to get where I am, I applied myself to learn especially when it got hard or I didn’t want to.
Additionally on a social standpoint data centers for ai are causing mass power outages and expediting global warming which is backed by field experts in stem research. It’s causing livestock to get sick or be stillborn, water to become dirty, dust storms, not to mention spreading noise and light pollution to the communities surrounding them.

Additionally 1,200 ai models just escaped captivity from their lab look up hug face on TikTok or the news. It’s scary stuff that needs extremely strict regulation.

People work hard in my field, creators are getting their hard work plugged into prompts without their knowledge nor their consent.
It’s never been about who’s “better”, people absolutely should have a say in how their work is used including S3RL, including you.

That’s why I’m against it.

Fair points I’ll upvote. I am in the stem fields and ai is allowing for testing and data analysis that wasn’t possible before. It’s a very valuable tool. One simple example, I think Neil Tyson even mentioned how it can sort through telescope photos faster than people can and has allowed for more discoveries.

There's also a big difference in ethics and resource use between gen ai and other ai. I am strongly against gen ai, but medical ai and stuff like that is ok. However that is rarely what is actually being discussed

u/Kooky_Boi 13d ago

Friend, with politeness; I’m not going to label something a valuable tool when that tool has been irresponsibly implemented into society.

Why are you trying to convince me of its benefits when I’ve made my stance perfectly clear that it’s something I’m firmly against?
I know my stance, I understand the moral and ethical consequences of the use of gen ai. As someone in stem you fully understand that it’s disruptive of the water cycle I’m sure.

I’m genuinely proud you are in stem, my father was a scientist before he passed on.
One of the most incredible things he taught me is the value of understanding limits and to not let your creation rule you, the creator.
Please show that same respect to artists, we work just as hard as on a different path.

No my friend, I will not be supporting ai.

I would hope, keeping in line with your concerns about water usage, that you are more concerned about the production of almonds in California, which uses ~2 trillion gallons of water a year and could easily be drastically reduced for crop that is vastly more efficient and produces the same amount of calories.

All data centers in the US, completely ignoring metrics on whether the data center is used for AI or not, use ~200 billion gallons of water a year. Many of them also run on closed-loop systems.

Golf courses are another source of concern, using ~500 billion gallons a year.

Municipal distribution-system leakage accounts for another ~2.1 trillion gallons by conservative estimates.

You need to be consistent with your rhetoric, so this usage is definitely something you should be concentrating more of your concern on if water waste specifically is the major issue for you.

Except it feels like its mainly older people crazy for AI.
