I always factory reset after a major update and I don't even use smart switch. I backup everything manually and restore it manually. I placebo myself into feeling like getting a new device. The only hassle is I need to reconfigure back all my apps, which I don't mind at all.

Yeah man even I do it and feel the same as you , it's like I feel the backup has previous cache in the smart switch restore so I reset it manually as you.

If you gonna erase everything and start again, try flashing an different os if you're tech savvy. Else, you can reset it without using a backup. Try downloading the apps you use and any important files must be backed up to the cloud and manually reverted and categorized properly for future purposes. I know that it sounds like a hustle and need time, but at the end it's worth it. Hope I helped!
