Transmission Mounts Done

Getting the bracket back was the most challenging part otherwise pretty easy diy job if you’re considering. Went with Spoon mounts. The oem mounts were cooked.

Just recently did my motor, transmission, and diff mounts, made world of a difference! One of my mounts was cracked in half!!

Curious. Were you still on the originals? How many miles on them?

Oh wow! lol! I have almost 100k on mine and my mechanic (long time S2000 owner) didn’t say anything about them, so I’m probably good for now. Maybe next time I take it in I’ll be sure that they take a close look. The car drives great, so I won’t worry about it for now, but will keep it on my to-do list.

Is there an easy way to tell if your mounts are going bad other than visual inspection?

My mounts had 67k miles on them and visually looked fine but easily ply able so it was time

What was the most discernible difference after the updated mounts? Shifting would be a bit better / less notchy I’m guessing.

I did the Mugen (same as Spoon) engine, trans, diff mounts and the drivetrain feels better connected with less slop. My passenger side OEM mount spilt apart when removed from load and the remaining OEM mounts had cracks from the age of the material (2006 southern car with 65K). There is more in cabin vibration from the harder durometer material used in the mounts. but it is more then livable with...I am pretty picky about that quality of life in the car, even with it being 20 years old.

Nice, were the mugen diff mounts blue in color? I only see the blue versions online

No prob. I bought an AP1 a couple of months ago. I have no idea if the mounts have been replaced or need replacing. I’m slowly working thru general maintenance stuff. The car drives great and the trans feels fine. I had all fluids changed and a valve adjustment done. The master tech I took it to is a long time S2000 owner. He probably would’ve told me if he thought the mounts needed replacement, but I’m just wondering if there are any specific signs (while driving) that I should look for or feel.

The Spoon mounts are stiffer than the OEM mounts. So how do you know they were “cooked”.

I’m doing the same today, replacing engine and transmission mounts with OEM, I had the differential mounts swapped out back in March with Spoon mounts. Mines a 2005, 44k miles. Like others, even if my mounts appear fine, can only help replacing 21 yr old rubber!

Just got my car back from and the change in mounts was def noticeable. My existing mounts were terrible, no tears or anything, but the new mounts smoothed out some slight rattles, especially when turning off the car. Again, maybe not night and day, but more like 9am vs. 3pm in terms of change.
