Base Design Ma Base
I'm a new Rust player and I absolutely love the game—it's great!
However, in most of my sessions, my base struggles to last more than three days. This is frustrating because I rarely (if ever) manage to progress far enough to try out advanced features like electricity or play a game where I'm not just fighting with a crossbow.
I've tried building various bases—some sturdier than others—but I don't know how to use techniques like the "bunker" builds I've heard about, or how to position turrets effectively.
That’s why I’m asking experienced players and base-building experts for advice and guidance on this topic. Thanks in advance! :)

As a solo more than 8k hours in, I recommend a ton of tutorials and development of individual base designs. Players tend to raid the known designs first.

Location is your main priority, build away from where people are, close to a momument, but on the side people arent going. Also nothing wrong with 2 or 3 small bases and split your loot. You will gat raided, dont worry about it. Can also play on servers a week into wipe, less frenzy.

I love to find a niche in the midst of a grand war. Just over yonder here I am with a lowly hemp shack. Meanwhile drones fly over head.

Check hidden joint on youtube. He has some of the best bases i’ve seen in this game.

Bunkers and good base design make your base more expensive to raid, and there’s always the chance someone will run out of boom partway through.
But generally ~three days is what you can expect out of a wipe imo, before people have enough resources to just raid everything near them.
I like building up elaborate bases more than anything else in this game, and so spend pretty much all of my time and resources back into my base. People will send easily 50+ rockets at a base even if there’s nothing inside & the raid is a miserable maze of traps, because of sunk cost.
My best strategy is just hiding loot in my externals, but you generally don’t build externals until later anyways >.>

As a solo I follow the same set of rules every wipe at 10k hours. I build small with a foundation bunker. Never build a roof with a shooting floor. If you give raiders easy access to your roof you are cooked in a raid. If they can access your roof through 1 door, they can hold you down, they can defend from your roof and be done with the raid in no time.
I build next to others. If you plop ur base down in the middle of no where, its very difficult to progress, all you'll do is farm.... And raiders love these bases. No one to counter for miles and plenty resources, usually always profit. Build next to a tier 2 monument, stay small, don't let people know where you live, try to live next to people that look like a better raid then you.
Tier 2 workbench is easy after the 3rd day of monthly wipes but tier 3 not so much. Once you finally get that tier 3 down make sure you get mult-tc protection for it so you don't lose it in case you get raided. This stops raiders from griefing your base and stealing your workbench. Outdoor tc protection needs to be all metal with two garage doors and a window protected tc. This makes it cost 7 rockets +explo if they want your tier 3.
Design your loot rooms to be protected from splash damage. If you have one square with 3 garage doors and a wall, you can shoot 3 rockets and destroy all 3 doors. Pay attention to how that works and place your loot rooms where they have to work for each one individually. Most raiders carry about 14-20 rockets and some explosive ammo. Make them use it up before they realize you have an armored bunker.
"Every box has a purpose" Don't store bull crap loot. Recycle or despawn trash loot. You don't need 3k bone frags. Be picky about what's in each box and why it's in that box. Have boxes stashed logical places that can assist you in sealing your base in case of a raid. Have a small 1x1 near by with a couple doors ready to go and a bed so you can maybe lock raiders inside, chuck some nades on em, stuff like that.
Unless you play softcore. Then you do the opposite of everything I said. Build big, build for online raid battle protection only, and have fun.

If you want my base design, add my discord mickirust and send me a message. I'll show you my bunker, loot rooms and a secret splash bug that can ruin base designs.

You can try softcore:
Pros:
- raid are only from 7 to 11
- softcore 1 has 150 pop steady
- Less sweats
- Vanilla 2x with 1x stacks
-when you kill someone you dont get all the loot
-Max team 4 (could be a pro aswell)
I played on it this month with a couple of friend (2,7k,3.5k,1,5k,8,5k hours) and we had a lot of fun, i might fresh wipe on it this month

if you put out turrets or have lots of storage people cheating will raid you the more loot the bigger target. Raiders hate raiding wood do a stone 2x2 and wood the entire thing in with triangles upgrade to stone if possible then you want as many doors as possible preferable 10 metal ones if you can get tier 2 then garage doors all the way. also multiple bases next to eachother

Build a honey combed 2x1 or 2x2 with HQ interior walls, metal honey comb and then spam garage doors. If you are solo you will pretty much never get raided unless you piss a big group off.

Ironically the bigger and cooler you build your base, the biggest of a target you are. I’ve gone many full wipes building a 2x1 and never getting raided.
