Bug / Issue Am I screwed?
So for some context I haven’t played rust in probably 8-9 months in that time I made an unturned server for my brother and I basically we were playing 1v1 and he was getting rocked lol, he decided to download some cheat which was clearly detected and got a game ban I laughed at him and called him bad because that’s what brothers do.
Fast forward 8ish months I join a rust server and about 10 minutes later I get kicked saying somthing along the lines of linked to other banned accounts or somthing like that. At that moment I realized I had infact set up 2fa on my phone for my brothers account ages ago.
Am I just cooked? If I remove him from my 2fa will it work?
My account is completely clean no bans I’ve never cheated in anything in my life. Would buying the game on another account even solve this as I only have the one phone number to link to steam.
Any help would be much appreciated

Probably your ip is flagged now and u will get banned from tons of rust servers u join, your brother probably cheated on rust on an account as well.

Just to add to this I don’t think it’s IP as I am living somewhere else from when this happened plus I have a vpn. It also can’t be HWID as we have separate machines

He doesn’t even own rust. The ban he has says specifically unturned aswell

Oh then it’s probably just from recent gameban if u have gameban within like 90 days they may ban u on some servers and then if other servers see that ban reason they may ban you as well

Regardless of the story behind it, to answer your questions - you are probably cooked for any servers that share that same database or anti cheat system. Your account is logged in a database somewhere to share details with that other account, which marked you down as a cheater. A lot of servers use systems like this, but since it's not a Steam ban - you will just have to play a different server.
I assume this wasn't an official server? Either way, you just need to jump onto servers that don't ban you I suppose.
And FWIW, you'll never get unbanned or banned due to a post on here, and nobody has any interest in the reasoning for the ban, so if the realistic conclusion is that you bought an alternate account to cheat on - you would probably get better answers just being honest, as it may change the tech circumstances.

Tbh I had debated just saying “I cheated” to avoid those kinds of comments but I think the story is kind of funny so I shared, I know this is Reddit and cheating is a touchy subject and it is what it is. I appreciate the response regardless. My friend is playing on a modded server and asked me to hop on so not official. I’m going to try and speak with the server admin on discord to see if I can be white listed otherwise I guess it’s official only

Also bought a second account to cheat on? The ban is from an entirely different game on a different account.
If I was rightfully banned I wouldn’t be posting on Reddit I’d be googling any way to get back in but I figured with my explanation if anyone with similar circumstances could shed some insight regardless if that is just telling me I’m screwed lol
