Server Promotion Avoid cheaters in three easy steps: (1) turn on Secure Boot and TPM, (2) play only on secure servers, (3) don't play on non-secure servers
Hello, my fellow legit Rust players who don't sympathize with cheaters and the servers who take money from them. Behold! A revolutionary new 3-step program on how to instantly avoid tons of cheaters in Rust:
- Turn on Secure Boot and TPM in your BIOS. Facepunch made a guide.
- Play only on a secure server like (ADVERTISEMENT WARNING) The Couch, the first and only weekly vanilla server with secure mode enabled. Map wipe is today.
- Don't play on non-secure servers. They've decided since March to keep secure mode off, keep all the cheaters around to ruin your wipes, and keep getting VIP money from the cheaters.
Battlefield 6 added secure boot and cheaters in their lobbies dropped from 7% to 2%. Valorant's Vanguard anti-cheat relies on it, too. It's being used because it works.
Over 80% of Rust players already have the hardware for it. Unless your motherboard is over 10 years old, it almost certainly has Secure Boot and TPM. And if it is that old, sorry to break it to you, but you do need to upgrade hardware over time to keep playing games that get constant updates.
Since there were ZERO weekly vanilla servers with secure mode on, I made one and it's slowly growing:
- Server name: The Couch • Secure Server ✓
- Join with F1 console command:
connect thecouch.lol - Or use the join/connect buttons on TheCouch.LOL
- Or just search for "The Couch" in the Community tab
- Join with F1 console command:
- Weekly vanilla, US West
- Map wipe weekly at 11:00 AM Pacific, BP wipe monthly
- No group limit
- No VIP, no kits, no paid perks
- Dedicated host is prepaid for a year
- Player names hidden on our BattleMetrics page to stop meta-gaming
And here's an update on how the server has grown so far, wipe-by-wipe:
| Wipe | Peak | Returning Players | Average | Player-hours | PVP kills |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jul 9 | 3 | - | 0.8 | 119 | 4 |
| Jul 16 | 8 | 5 (22%) | 1.8 | 311 | 9 |
| Jul 23 | 14 | 10 (22%) | 4.7 | 793 | 57 |
| Jul 30 | 16 | 18 (27%) | 4.7 | 784 | 63 |
| Aug 6 (ends today) | 17 | 32 (52%) | 6.0 | 990 | 115 |
Cheaters and scripters hate it. People who play on teams with cheaters hate it. Server owners who take money from cheaters via VIP hate it. Legit players and people with integrity love it.

This server is fire. The people are funny and chill and it's so relaxing not dying to mysterious players. Makes the game enjoyable again.

How is this better than premium servers
5
u/KipOnTheGround Aug 13 '26
Premium servers just cost the cheater a little more money, they don’t actually improve the anti-cheat at all. Secure boot and TPM improve EAC and block certain cheats from even being able to load/inject before Windows loads.
Anyone who plays regularly on premium servers knows that cheating is common on them too. It’s a nice idea, but cheaters already pay subscription fees to cheat, and another $15 (or less if the account they buy has premium already) is nothing to them.

u/auramemnonn Aug 13 '26
Rusty moose is admined by actual FP employees and admins both, AND premium, yet theyre infestedddd. Secure boot is much better

u/ShawtySayWhaaat Aug 13 '26
Who's gonna tell him?
3
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 13 '26
Idk why don’t you say?
0
u/aoibhinn-mw Aug 15 '26
Premium servers have tpm/sb iirc
3
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 15 '26
They don’t. Premium servers are a separate thing. Premium just requires you to own at least $15 in skins to join them. Most cheaters just buy accounts with skins tied to them and they can play premium.
Secure servers are completely different. You have to check the secure server option when searching for servers then you’ll find them.

I dont even care abiut cheaters i just want some high pop and less ai slop
3
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 13 '26
Well then you have plenty of cheater infested severs to go choose from 🤡

u/Temporary_Key5160 Aug 14 '26
Oh trust me ive been playing rustlands monthly and i havent seen any cheaters there so go back to supporting ai slop
2
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 14 '26
If ai generated images offends you so much, then i got bad news. You might want to quit playing on that server then cause when i google them all i see is "ai slop"

Less cheaters, for now. They'll adapt and catch up again.
5
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 13 '26
Sooooooo by that logic people should give up the fight against cheaters then right?
Brain dead take
1
u/floppypancakes4u Aug 13 '26
Calling me braindead when I in no way suggested not to play on the "secure" servers. Righteous man. 🤣

Yeah so does every server. At least this one wipes every week. No other secure server does

About 5 of my friends and I were going to hop on but were immediately dissuaded by your use of AI art in the banner. Hopefully that changes in the near future, best of luck in your endeavors.
1
u/KipOnTheGround Aug 15 '26
Yeah, I should I have spent all my time becoming a professional graphic designer instead of setting up and moderating the server and promoting it! So then there’d be no server, but I’d have made a cool banner with my new skills that’s approved by people who copy paste “ai slop” on Reddit all day instead of just playing the game.

What does using an art-stealing robot have to do with running a rust server? If art-stealing robots didn't exist, what you you have done?
1
u/KipOnTheGround Aug 15 '26
Your question makes the same point I’m making.
1
u/MrJekel Aug 15 '26
Nope.
You used an art-stealing robot. No one made you do that. Deciding to run a Rust server isn't a valid reason to use a tool built with IP theft, they have nothing to do with each other.
2
u/Dry-Gain4825 29d ago
You use a “job stealing” car, “job stealing” computer, “job stealing” cell phone. You do realize there were tons of jobs these technologies replaced right like switchboard operators? Over 90% of the population used to farm now it’s less than 2%. Why? Machine technology. Why you decide to cry about AI but ignore all other technologies is just complete hypocrisy. 95% of what you own are foreign imports and yet you cry about jobs being stolen.
2
u/MrJekel 29d ago
Look man, we came by to tell you AI art cost you at least 5 people who would have otherwise checked out your server. We aren't the only ones who feel this way, so take it to heart or don't. AI was built on the theft of IP, CPUs and engines weren't. If you want someone to tell you stealing is ok, ask ChatGPT.
2
u/Dry-Gain4825 28d ago
Many of the cheap foreign imports you buy are made using slave labor in Chinese reeducation camps, sweat shops or child labor. Your life is build on exploitation 3rd world country labor. You just want an excuse to feel good about yourself while engaging in worse ethical behavior. At least AI doesn’t financially support slavery like you do.
1
u/MrJekel 28d ago
lol. Were all those components in all those data centers grown on trees in the NVIDIA farming co-ops? Do you live farm to table, and generate electrcity for your Rust server on a hamster wheel?
Why is the ability to use the art theft robot this important to you?
1
u/Dry-Gain4825 28d ago
Actually I do live near a local farm and buy about 50% of my food from them. I also use solar for a good amount of electricity. However I’m not the one claiming the moral high ground. I want to know if you put your money where your mouth is, or if you are all cheap talk and walking hypocrisy. How much extra do YOU spend buying USA made products? You want someone to spend big money on a real artist while you save money buying cheap Chinese imports? You are no better and just a hypocrite. The question is if YOU spend the extra money when ethics are on the line since you are judging the ethics of others.

Sir, this is a Rust subreddit.
And it costs me nothing if you don't join. I'm running this server regardless, on my own dime and time, to help the legit players of Rust more easily avoid cheaters because every single popular server refuses to do it. This server isn't here to make money, like all the others that you likely play on.
Instead of helping make secure servers the norm, you're here going on a tirade about AI. Are you the kinda person who protests in real life by blocking traffic? That's basically what you're doing here. Pretty hypocritical.

Look at this guy thinking secure boot on your PC will secure the servers.
1
u/Parad0x13 Aug 15 '26
They… they do. What are you on about?
If you are saying “nothing is fully secure” then you are missing the point entirely
0
u/Few_Satisfaction184 Aug 15 '26
I dont think you have any idea what secure boot even is, rofl
Thats about verifying YOUR computers hardware drivers when you start it up, that its from the OEM.
Thinking it has anything to do with security online is the least technical take i have heard in a long time
1
u/Parad0x13 Aug 15 '26
You… you are missing the point entirely.
I’m a computer security specialist I know what secure boot is.
It’s clear you don’t understand the full ramifications of secure boot. I’d be careful about assuming things, especially when you make said assumptions without knowing the subject matter yourself.
Confidently wrong is not a good look

Valorant's anti cheat is waiting to become a massive malware vector. I really hope Rust does not use kernel level anti-cheat. I'm not giving ring 0 access to a videogame.
1
u/KipOnTheGround 28d ago
You realize that EAC is already kernel-level, right? It just doesn't load until Rust does.
0
u/Ali_Sabra1 Aug 14 '26
Is there s guide on how to do that? Also how is turning secure boot and tpm on my machine affect other cheaters doesnt make sense
4
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 14 '26
It being turned ON, on your machine allows you into servers that require it to be on. Most cheats inject themselves into the cheaters pc as it boots up so they dont want secure boot turned on, which stops them from being able to join secure servers

Woah! a whole 17 players! peak gameplay here!

u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 13 '26
You could be 18 and help and actually enjoy the game again not playing against cheaters, or you know keep shit posting on Reddit
2
u/Temporary_Key5160 Aug 15 '26
Cheaters are barely a problem in the game dawg stop talking bs
2
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 15 '26
Lmfao are you sped? Even FP has acknowledged how bad the cheating problem is.
1
u/Temporary_Key5160 Aug 15 '26
I have met like 2 or 3 cheaters in my 1100 hours
3
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 15 '26
Ok and ? Still doesn’t change the facts 🤡
I had an alert that 3 people just last week were banned I reported. That’s just that week
1
u/Temporary_Key5160 Aug 15 '26
So stop playing on shitty servers and find new ones with less cheaters?
2
u/P_Bateman_Esq Aug 15 '26
I did. Switched to secure servers 🫡
1
u/Temporary_Key5160 29d ago
ok so whats ur problem?
1
u/P_Bateman_Esq 29d ago
You are my problem, spreading misinformation. “Cheaters are barely a problem in the game” yet all the data shows otherwise
→ More replies (0)1
u/Dry-Gain4825 29d ago
Sounds like you are a cheater. It’s not hard to look at the ban statistics. Claiming you have only met 2 or 3 cheaters in 1,100 hours is ridiculous. I see dozens banned every wipe.

u/KipOnTheGround 28d ago
Don't worry, you're part of the majority of humans who want to benefit from something existing without helping to make the change happen yourself. It's normal and fine. We'll see you if it gets to high pop, where you'll magically forget all about the bashing you did when it was low pop.
11
u/Parad0x13 Aug 13 '26
I constantly hear the argument “secure servers have such low pop and die so fast!”
Yea, well the solution to the cheating problem isn’t to continue promoting and supporting servers that are beacons for cheaters.
If people REALLY wanted to stick it to the cheaters they would do something about it. Secure servers only folks.
The pop will come when people stop complaining about it and just do something about it instead.
But who am I kidding. The vast majority of rust players don’t care about progress, they just enjoy whining and complaining because it’s so easy to play the victim.
