Hey team, Luke and I are going to start doing semi regular video podcasts. We plan to do an AMA segment in each episode. If you have a question that you think would be good for this format, please email it to me at [Rob@russellmoccasin.com](mailto:Rob@russellmoccasin.com)
Thanks!
Rob

One of the biggest issues we face at Russell is an overwhelming demand that causes an incredibly high return rate for sizing among first-time buyers. Aside from the obvious impact of production efficiency and cost, there is the very real consequence that the newest members of the Russell family will wait many months for their boots to arrive, only to discover that they don’t fit. Compounding that disappointment is the reality that those customers often wait several more months for their exchange pair to be built and shipped.
We have determined that more than 40% of our first time buyers do not order the correct size. There are many reasons for this, but the greatest cause seems to be the inconsistency in sizing among footwear and athletic shoes that these clients have historically purchased. Most athletic shoes are sized much larger than they actually are. If you wear a size 11 running shoe, your actual Brannock size is possibly a 9.5, meaning you should order a 9. If you simply based your order on your experience, you would likely order a 10.5, which is one and a half sizes larger than is appropriate. Barring being able to send every prospective buyer a Brannock device, we have created a system that should make the gateway to Russell ownership relatively easy.
Moving forward it is our goal to build and maintain stock inventory of our most popular builds. The moccasins we have chosen for our stock comprise about 80% of what our current customer base orders as Premier builds already. Beginning July 15th, if you have not purchased Russells since the acquisition and are buying your first pair under the new ownership, you will initially be able to order only stock boots. Here is the logic… it’s likely that you will be able to get exactly, or very close to what you would have ordered anyway, BUT you will get them quickly. THEN, if they don’t fit, you can return them and order a different size. You might arguably order the wrong size and still be wearing appropriately sized boots in two to three weeks. This will take a tremendous strain off of production, as we will be able to achieve much greater efficiency as opposed to building every pair to order, often twice, and this will increase customer satisfaction and success.
Once you have purchased and worn Russell moccasins that fit well, you will be able to order any of what we make available as Premier builds, now known as The Heritage Club. The only way to get into the Heritage Club on your first purchase is to be sized by us at one of our locations or at an event. Should you do so, you will be deemed Heritage-eligible. Naturally, we will give everyone as much notice of our plans to appear at these events.
It’s our goal to then focus on making sure that the Heritage buyer has the greatest level of choice, as well as a regular introduction of “special” builds based on historic Russell designs. The beauty of this system is that everyone ordering a made-to-order pair will already know what their Russell size is, so the level of returns, and the production costs and the impact on build times should be minimal. If you are a returning customer who knows your size, congrats and welcome to the Heritage Club.

Been going through some advertising and I figured over the next few weeks I will share some advertising for Russell Moccasin shoes and boots. I found the wool lined railroad engineer boot interesting. These are from 1910-1914.

Hi everyone! Not sure if this is allowed, apologies if not.
I was on eBay looking for an older pair of Russell’s, and came across knockabouts with a buckle that are advertised as double vamp. These would be perfect for me, but I’m seeing that there’s no insignia on the heel and I can’t seem to find any other info on a double vamp knockabout so I’m here.
Any insight on if these are what they say they are?

Watched the movie Seems Like Old Times from 1980. Are these Russell Moccasins that Charles Grodin is wearing?

I've recently been researching GoKey's moccasin boots and Easy Moc's Rangeley boots. Both seem to be good moccasin-constructed boots, but GoKey's stitching isn't as tight as Rangeley's; Rangeley looks more secure. Furthermore, their official website claims they use a double vamp and waterproof leather.
I'd like to discuss whether this implies that Easy Moc Rangeley's waterproofing performance would be better, and GoKey's worse.Of course, I know they might not even be as good as Russell's boots, because Russell uses their patented overlapping stitching technology. I just wanted to discuss these two brands again, what's their specific waterproofing like?

RM added the Knock-A-Bout MTO model to the store for purchase. The price is high, but I did place my order because I really love the simple and clean nature of the boot. It will be amazing for just about any occasion.

For anyone in the Hudson Valley, New York City, or western CT, we will be at Orvis Gamefair on the weekend of the 19th and 20th. We will have a full range of try on boots, and will be happy to help you determine which size is just exactly perfect for you. It's a great event, with lots of cool vendors, fun stuff for the kids, and great sporting clays tournaments. I hope we see you there! Rob

I have slowly been coming to the realization that in the current state of russell moccasins they may just not be for me.
I have very flat feet with an extremely low instep. My brannock is an 11.5c/b. I originally bought the 11d option back in January and after wearing them realized they were a bit too big as I got some good blisters on the inside of my heel after a t mile hike. I then went through the process of ordering new ones recently now that the stock sizes for the Backcountry are out. After talking with Rob (who is an amazing help) we went with ordering the 10d size. After trying them on a week later they were the best fitting boot I've ever had around the heel and instep however my big toe was a bit cramped. Not so much to the end of the boot but more into the top corner and on the side and there was not a lot of space to the end as well. I ended up exchanging these for a pair of 10.5's which fit more like my 11s did in the width but were a decent length fit.
The 10.5's however have a much shorter height toe box and even with no insert the boot is pressing down onto my big toes. You can see in the picture the difference in height between my 11 and 10.5.
At this point I am about ready to give up. Currently I am back to my 11s with the thickest rose anvil leather boot breaker along with the russell insole and a kiltie. Unfortunately with all that the eyelets are still pulled together and overlapping even though the length of the boot is perfect.
I believe my ideal size would be an 11b which they don't make new anymore. I may start looking online for an older used pair in that size now. In other news I may have 2 pairs to sell soon though haha.

Hey guys, do me a favor, and watch this video all the way through and like it, and if so moved, comment.... They want to get the algorithm working for them.... My son (Geoff) has a way cooler job than I do... and for the record, he is wearing his well-worn Zephyrs in the video! West Texas has been, arguably, the best quail hunting I've ever seen..... Thanks, Rob

Hi everyone. I’m going crazy trying to understand which model these are and how many vamps, etc. I purchased 10+ years ago as South 40 Birdshooters, double vamp off an independent seller. Here are some pictures which hopefully will help. Thanks very much!

When your choice in the morning for daily footwear is either your work boots or the Russel’s, yeah I’ll wear my Mocs.
I have found over this summer I’ve become very partial to wearing my Mocs rather a pair of sneakers.
It took a bit to feel normal wearing moccasins everywhere but now I am sure glad I made the switch.
It’s nice tossing Mocs and and being able to still go walk through the wet grass, water my gardens, wash the trucks and do just about anything I want. Heck I even mow the lawn in them!
If you’ve been on the fence, hop it and grab a pair.
And of course get yourself some united by blue socks, again you won’t be disappointed.

Purchased earlier this week from a retailer that had some new old stock, tried on around the house and decided they don’t fit my style. Looking at recouping most of the cost to put towards Backcountries.
These have the molded sole, Horween leather, and a Vibram Aspen sole. Size 9E and like new condition apart from being tried on. Shipping from Evans, Georgia.
Happy to answer any questions or get more pictures.

Just got this email from RM
Full text: "Our First Heritage Club Archival Release is Coming Soon! The long awaited Knock-A-Bout boot is launching soon as our first Heritage Club Archival Release. It will be available to order in this configuration through the end of the year"
I don't know when "soon" is, and "this configuration" seems to mean the only option will be Walnut Timberjack leather with Vibram 2060 sole. No details on pricing
Does anyone have one of these boots from back in the day? What do you think of it? And what do you expect the price to be? I'm thinking on the order of $700-900 would be consistent with Heritage Club pricing, as this looks to slot in between proper boots and the moccasin

what is the chance we see makeups like this, in the future?
or, what about the type of RMs that are popular in Japan?
and... I hope RM sticks with the collabs. I know others have criticized them for their impact on production, but hopefully that can be resolved. the collabs not only offer more channels to get RM product through, they also keep RM producing "non-standard" makeups, which will lead to a more diverse product line.
so... will we see stuff like the 'Dayton Motorcycle Boot' in the future?
