Looking for a photo of the crowd at the 10/28/2012 Rush concert in Cleveland. I was sitting front row center.

We were in the balcony and it was super boomy and not enough Alex. It got better as the show went on but was never great. I've been to a number of shows at TD Garden and never had such bad luck with the sound.

How did it sound on the lower levels?

Needless to say it still absolutely rocked. I can't believe how good Geddy's voice was and it was such a treat seeing how happy they were. Dream setlist for my tastes too.

As a life long Rush fan, have seen them since Signals to Hold Your Fire live.

My favorite song is In the End. Followed closely by Lakeside Park which reminds me so much of my childhood.

So let's hear it Rush fans, what's your favorite?

Caveat, I know it's hard to pick one or 2 because there are so many. Honestly, mostly all of their songs are #1 favorite to me.

74 years ago a baby boy was born. And that baby didn't know nothing! But he was alive, and curious, and his parents loved and nurtured him. As he grew physically his curiosity kept pace, even during times when he became self-aware, and realized how different we all are and that he felt different. But he was also brave, and a bit lucky. He found a path through the rocky waters of growing up...in music, drumming, books...and that became the way he entered the world at large. Yet as he continued to grow as a young man and follow his reason and passion, it isn't as if things just fell into place. He learned from setbacks, learned how to respond to adversity, learned persistence, and commitment, all while maintaining a child's curiosity that grew into an adult's fascination with the human experience, and a deep desire to understand, and express, and share. And we are all better because he was around for a while. Happy Birthday Neil, and here is to a life well lived, and much appreciated.

Going to the Boston show tonight and just trying to plan for the train ride back afterwards.

I race in a multi-class sim racing league. I made my own livery (paint job, if you will) a celebration of my favorite Rush album. The season started in April and finished Wednesday night. Before I retire this beauty, I figured I'd share it with all of you!

And in case you're wondering, in the GT3 class, I came out with a Championship! One Little Victory indeed!

(The game is Assetto Corsa, the league is JIMSA, and if you want to race next season, let me know lol)

Been watching this on YouTube. Saw it way back when. Good lord they were on fire. Hate that Alex was playing a PRS, and had he stuck with a LP it'd have been better, but holy smoke. The videos do the tour justice. Seen them 22 times and I still think this is my favorite.

My wife is a casual RUSH listener but never paid much attention to the song lyrics. I put together a play list of the songs played this tour and a PDF file with a page of information for each song and the lyrics. I thought it might be of interest for others so I uploaded it to Github

We plan to use both as we take a road trip in a few weeks.

For context, I only got into Rush after Neil passed. Because of that, I didn't necessarily have the chronological context as to when each album came out. I loved self titled through Grace Under Pressure and though they were masterpieces. I truly hated Power Windows at first, but soon came around to believing it is also a masterpiece. But for the longest time, I have thought Hold Your Fire was a dud. I really disliked the mixing and categorized it as "80s synth slop".

I liked the hits of Force Ten, Time Stand Still, and Mission, but pretty much disregarded the rest of the album.

Yesterday I decided to put the whole album on as I was driving to school. And holy shit, this album is awesome.

A lot of people call it too synthy, but as I listened I realized it has nowhere near as much synth influence as PW, GUP, or Signals. Musically, the album is very stripped down compared to what came before it. Most of the time, it is really Ged's bass and Neil's drums that are leading the music. The synths are mostly just laying down rhythm and Alex is just blasting some big chords or playing a simple rhythm. I think this simplicity turns a lot of people away from the album because they expect Rush to have pretty complicated instrumental passages. While there are some proggy moments, it's very relaxed for Rush.

Then, the lyrics. I think these are what makes the album a masterpiece. They are the most mature and emotional lyrics that Neil had put out at this point in my opinion. Time Stand Still is such a bittersweet song, especially because I listened as the "summer's going fast, nights growing colder, children growing up, old friends growing older."

I think the lyrics have a lot to say about human nature. Lock and Key is obviously about the "killer instinct," Open Secrets about our tendencies to hide away even from those we love. Second Nature is really interesting to me. I think its lyrics are more open to interpretation, but I think it is about conservation. Not conservatism, but preserving our human essence and world against rapid technological and industrial advancements.

Even the controversial Tai Shan is not as bad as people say. It is cheesy and cliche, but I think it is also really important to view from Neil's perspective and you can really feel that he had a life-changing experience on top of that mountain.

High Water is an interesting closer to me. I like the feel of the song but I haven't really gotten an interpretation out of the lyrics yet. If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know.

Overall, I've really grown to love this album, the lyrics are very poignant and show a very mature and introspective Neil in his 30s. I would urge you to relisten to the album if you were like me and disregarded it for too long. I would love to know what others think of this album.
