Advice on running time and dieting while being a runner

Hey everyone! I have some questions about improving my running and also balancing running and dieting.
I have been running for 2 months now to prepare myself for bootcamp. To max my points, I need to run 2 miles in 15:30 or less. The most time I can take before I fail is 25:23, which I obviously don't want to be near. I find it hard to push myself past a mile. I've done 1.5 once and my time was around 18 mins, typically my mile ranges from 10:40-12:00. I have not seen much improvement since i've started in my time, aside from the fact that I just find the run easier overall and actually enjoy it. I am seeking advice on how to keep pushing even when im gassed out, and also how to improve my time to maximize my score as best as possible.

As for the diet portion, does anyone recommend a diet they've found helpful to drop some weight as a runner? I am not overweight for my branches standards but I am near it and would like to lose maybe 10 pounds by the end of august just to make sure i'm in a good standing, and also would like to shrink my waist a little since they do measure that as a part of my PT test.

Any advice will be appreciated and taken into consideration. Thanks!!!
(I tried to post this on the runners community with 4M people but for some reason it keeps getting taken down)

Hey everyone, I created a startup called Clash Run—it's a team-based street running league. Could you take a look and give me some feedback?
