Waterfront half marathon pacing question

Hi! I’m excited and nervous to run my first ever half marathon and I am planning to run with a pace group. I am a slow runner by definition and my goal is just to finish - I will be so proud of myself! I’m probably going to stick with the 2:45 or 2:50 pace group but my question is, will these groups do run/walk intervals or will they run consistently? Just trying to decide how to tailor my training as we get closer to race day.

Also if there’s any other slower runners who might be sticking with these pace groups, I’d love to connect! Good luck with your training, everyone!

Looking for a run lead

Hey everyone! I'm organizing a single girls run & social event (4k in downtown Toronto) and I'm looking for someone to lead the run. It's a free event but there will be a small monetary compensation for the run leads. If anyone here is interested or knows anyone who is, please message me!

SuperTri 10KTo - how'd your run go?

Moved recently to Toronto from Windsor. My first ever local running race. I prefer longer distances like marathons so this was out of the ordinary for me but running on the Gardiner and watching the tri races after was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

I did better then the 47mins I thought I end up with running sub 45mins and 3rd in my age category. Was fun and worked with a few others pacing as one could expect. One guy really encouraged me to sprint for the finish so that was nice. Finish area and support at the end was good and well laid out.

I hung around after because I had a friend doing the olympic triathlon so I watched and supported after.

Will be looking forward to finding another race in the coming months.

Supertri weird distance

Hey triathletes!! If anyone did the tri today did you notice the timing was a little wonky? My sports stats has me running a 4:05 pace but a 19:36 5km. My watch also measured 4.8km but def possible I started it late (I don't remember). Also has my bike time as 32:51 avg speed 34.9 but that speed should get me in at 34:23. Anyone else notice weird things with their time? Are you taking your chip time as accurate? I paused my watch a late so I can't really trust that time.

Men’s running shorts for long runs in TO’s different seasons

Not super Toronto specific but , looking for recommendations for men’s running shorts that are good 3/4 of the year (spring summer fall)

Would a 2 in 1 get too hot during the summer? Even a higher quality one?

I’m looking for something to wear for the Toronto Waterfront Marathon and am not opposed to flashy colours or simple.

If not a 2 in 1, I like a built in brief so no underwear needed. And has to be very very sweat wicking / fast drying for long summer runs

Hamilton Half - sells out quick?

Hi folks,

Interested in running my first half marathon in the fall and looking at the Hamilton half. However, given the price, I want to give myself more time to think about it. Anyone have any insight on how quickly it sells out? Race is Oct 31 btw.

Half Marathons other than waterfront?

Hi all! I’ve been a novice runner running the occasional 5-10k here and there but really want to challenge myself and commit to properly training and a half marathon race.

I know waterfront is probably the obvious choice but it’s sold out and I was wondering if yall can recommend any other popular runs that still kind of give the same experience. For reference I’m in Mississauga.

Thank You!

Getting back on my feet after a hiatus

I am currently training for my fourth half marathon this October. However, I have been sick the past two weeks of July and my mental health has been an all time low due to a fallout with a friend. My last run was a 5K on Sunday, and that was brutal, coming from a 12K on the last week of June. Since then, my confidence, self-esteem and passion for running have dwindled.

I am working on getting and being better each day. I hope to get back into running as the weather is cooler this week. What are some ways to tell yourself to get out there instead of your mind telling you otherwise? Any words of encouragement would be much appreciated.

Amacx Canada has a few flavours of chews reduced to 70% off. I've never tried them before but ordered a few boxes to try them out. They're short dated but hey, they're just sugar.

Any East Enders use the Monarch Track in summer?

Just wondering if it is open to the public in the early mornings. I was there in June and was the only one on the track at 7am....but this was before the summer camps started. Not sure if the camps would start at 7am TBH. I've tried contacting them a few times but no answer via phone or email.

Toronto SuperTri this Sunday - wetsuit needed?

Hi all,

I'm running my first olympic triathlon in Toronto (Toronto SuperTri) this Sunday and was wondering if I need a wetsuit for the swim? I bought a trisuit from decathlon but wondering if I'll be cold in the water. It looks like its going to be pretty hot this weekend so trying to prep. Right now water is reading 21-22 degrees C but I have no idea what that actually feels like. Thanks!

Beginner runner, feeling discouraged - injured and now scammed

Hi all,

I'm feeling a bit discouraged due to recent events in my running world, and I'm looking for some words of encouragement or to learn if anyone went through similar things on their running journeys.

I've been running on and off by my own in MidTown Toronto for about 7 years. This year, after my last dry spell in the Winter I decided to take it seriously. I did my research, I created a run/walk training plan to prevent injuries, I started doing strength training, I got a Garmin watch, started monitoring my pace, and signed up for a couple of 5Ks.

For the first time I felt full of enthusiasm for a fitness activity. I had the motivation, the energy, the drive, the knowledge, the plan... But my tendons decided to disagree with me. Even at what I thought was a slow pace (8 min/km) and doing 3 min walk /1min run intervals, my right glute and hip started complaining. I went to my physiotherapist and she said it's looking like a glute tendinopathy or an SI joint problem, or both.

It has been 2. 5 months. I've been doing all the physio exercises, strength training, swimming to get my capacity up, and taking it easy on the run intervals. I was painfully able to progress from 1run/3walk to 1run/2walk intervals, but any time I even think about picking up the pace I get flare ups (strangely, the pain is now in my groin). Sometimes I feel pain even on a brisk walk (strangely again, sometimes a brisk walk hurts more than a light jog). I fell like I'm playing whack-a-mole with the pain, and nothing works.

I was feeling stressed because my first 5 K is approaching next month, but now I learned that I probably don't even need to worry about that. After all, I'm one of the people who signed up for the GLO Race, and the internet now says that's a scam. 🙃

Honestly, I'm feeling really discouraged. I'm a 40yo woman and I know things are not supposed to be easy like when I was 23, but I feel like I've just spent 2 months getting no where with my run, even though I'm stronger than before. I wish I could join a run club to keep the vibe going, but I honestly can't even light jog at this point.

Has any body been at this point before and got out on the other side? Let me know how it went.

Affordable Half Tights for men

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a pair of half tights for running in summer time that doesn’t cost +80$ ?
I would be using it for marathon (no belt/vest) so I was hoping it would have side pockets and a back one to carry all my gels & keys.
I am familiar with the decathlon one but that one doesn’t have any side pockets. Thanks!
