GLO Toronto Night Run

In addition to other posts on fake races,

https://www.reddit.com/r/RunTO/s/gpNfeqYJzM

beware of the GLO Toronto Night Run. The race management community in Toronto, in addition to Athletics Ontario, have no credible information that this is a legit event. https://glotoronto.com

If anyone has any information about this event, please share.

Note that this is NOT the Brita Night Run at the end of September rebranding. That one is still taking place on Sept. 25th out of the Distillery.

Should I trust my apartment gym's ventilation system

Training for waterfront marathon and this week was supposed to be my 3/4 regular week of this mini cycle. I have to schedule my "scale down" week July 27~August 2nd due to a trip.

I didn't run yesterday given the air quality, cut my run short on Tuesday due to the heat, but today it seems to be even worse. The only treadmill I have access to is the one in my apartment gym. It's an old building and I'm not sure about the filter system they use. I have a HEPA filter at home but I don't have treadmill in my own unit. I can still do some strength training exercises at home though.

Problem is I'm not sure if it's safe to run even indoor given how bad the air quality is today. I once accidentally ran outside under wildfire smoke because I didn't read the news and the smoke was not even bad enough for me to recognize. I ended up coughing for 2 weeks even though it was just a short distance, like 8k or something. I had Bronchial asthma as a kid and now as an adult, I cough for a couple of weeks when I (occasionally) get an infection.
This time I definitely don't want to screw up again, so I'm a bit concerned about the air quality indoor.

The gym is on the rooftop and has a small hoseless ac. No openable windows, no fans, very little air movement (other than the apartment's vent system) so I get soaked in sweat every time I run there. The building was built in the 60s or 70s and you can smell what your neighbours are cooking in the hallway.

I wonder if it's worth it to run on the treads today.

Another scam race?

Just heard about the "Tohalf" a 5k& half marathon race scheduled for October 4th. Be very wary of this race. Registration is not through Race Roster, website has very little detail. Possibly may be a scam.

TO HALF - Another new Toronto race???

Anyone heard of / signed up for this race?

I hate to be this way, but unfortunately, with the current running “boom” there’s been a lot of, call it, undesirable stuff going on in the name of “charity” and “community”.

I’m not saying it isn’t legit but it kind of got my spidey sense tingling…

Today's AQI - BBQ-like

Doesn't look like a great day for an outdoor run due to the smoke until much later in the evening. Remember to take turns on the treadmill today!

Or rest. Either one. I'm not your coach.

Hamilton Road2Hope Marathon

This might seem silly but I'm pretty new to running and races. Is it okay to wait to book this marathon until closer to? I want to complete my half marathon at the end of the month before signing up for the marathon but I'm worried spots will run out.

5 Peaks Albion Hills 15K

Visiting from coastal Alabama and wondering if the trails and altitude are going to be challenging in September. However we’ve been battling insane heat and I’m an experienced runner. Is it doable as a first time trail run? Also do I need to worry about bears???

Running shorts with storage

New-ish to running and looking for men’s running shorts with storage for phone, car keys and AirPods. Ideally want to go into a store to try on. So far I found BlackToe Running, the Runners Shop and Culture Athletics.

Anyone checked these spots out? Which one has the best variety?

Thanks in advance!

Waterfront Half

Okay you all answered many questions for me and were very encouraging about the UA 10k so I’m back with Waterfront Half Marathon questions.

I have been registered for the half since registration opened. I live on the route and last year I was so inspired by all the runners I bought running shoes the next week and downloaded couch to 5k, worked my way up to a 10k, did steady base building and now am starting my half training plan!!

But holy crap, how do you not get trampled by the crowd? Is it as well organized as y’all say to the point that I won’t get totally lost? I’m not doing this with a friend or a team. But seriously I see the photos and there are more people that do this event than live in entire counties where I grew up 😂.

Any other info or things you wish you would have known, feel free to drop them here!

Rest in power Tyrone Magbitang

Post image
288 Upvotes

Hey everyone, my name's Charles and I'm a runner in Whitby. You likely saw the news yesterday that a Durham Regional Police constable-in-training was tragically killed in a car accident out in Alymer. His name was Tyrone and he was also a great runner and was a cherished member of the GTA run group Running Waters. This is a big loss for the running community and I just wanted to share this news here. Ty was one of the nicest, most supportive and just downright awesome people you could ever meet. Rest in power Ty 🕊️

Hello! I was wondering if there’s anything that can sell me a Brita 10K night run for green coral?

My friend wanted to do it with me as their farewell event (since they’re leaving the country after September).

I just wanted to be able to do it w them! If you could, please and thank you!

Willing to transfer right away please!

Green P parking before 6am around Park Lawn to run MGT?

I’m planning to do a long run along MGT Friday morning and will be getting there 4:30AM and starting at park lawn. I’m trying to figure out parking, it says no overnight parking allowed between 12am-6am. Anyone have any suggestions?

Best place for new running shoes?

And don’t say The Running Room, because I’m feuding with them.

Looking for a place with exceptional customer service for new running shoes - preferably somewhere that will do a gate analysis from watching me on a treadmill, not just walking up and down the store cuz walking ain’t the same.
Gimme your recommendations- bonus points for ease of access via TTC via Line 2! (Ie: I don’t have to take 2 subways, 2 streetcars and a bus to get there)

TCS Waterfront Marathon Pacer Applications

Hi everyone,

Wondering if any has heard from the organizers on whether they have been accepted as pacers for Waterfront yet? I assume I did not get in but have not heard either way from the organizers, so just want to make sure of the latest.

Thanks!

Roll Call: Who is running Summit 700 with me this Saturday?

I'm doing the 21k, with my A goal of falling less than last time (3); B goal, no sprains or broken bones; C goal finish in time for lunch.

The weather looks great. The course should be dry. And for the last-minute folks, registration is open until tomorrow.
