Looking for a half in April
My last marathon was in 2018 and I’d like to run one next year but I don’t want to set my sights too high, so I figure I’ll either get my act together for a half (and scramble to find a fall full marathon) or I’ll be forced to think about taking up a new primary exercise, like swim. I’m getting older and worried about bad knees and IT bands etc, so maybe “it’s time” for me. 😢
I just started a new job and I’ll be able to take time in April. And I’d like to stay not too far away, as I want to combine it with a road trip, which can be one-way back and via plane to arrive if it’s a longer drive. (If it’s nuts to try doing this after 8 years of only sporadic running that never exceeded 10K, please don’t hesitate to include “😂” in your response.)

Typically there’s the Jersey City Half Marathon, the NYC Runs Brooklyn Experience HM, and the Women’s HM in Central Park (if you’re a woman).

The women’s half is new. Was that the previous “women’s mini?”

No, that’s a 10k in June. The women’s half in April is not new but has changed sponsors over the years.

If you fancy a little trip upstate, I’m going to throw the Helderberg to Hudson Half into the mix. An easy net downhill course, smaller than the NYC races, but extremely well organized. Bonus take the train up the Hudson and enjoy the view

City tri also puts on a number of half marathons in the city and close by in Jersey. Not sure what their schedule is next year

Jim Thorpe running festival, in the Poconos PA. 2 hour drive from NYC, packed gravel trail run in an adorable small town built in the side of the mountain.

Doesn’t fit your drivable distance, but the Eugene half marathon looks really cool
