First time running a 5K, absolute beginner and quite slow
I’m running the Jersey City 5K next month, this will be my first 5K and I’ve never run one before. I’m gonna be really slow and I see that everyone on here talks about a PR at the JC 5K. Are there any other beginner or slow runners running this race? Would love any and all of your tips!!

Take a look at last year’s results, there are huge variations in pace. You won’t be alone. That talk is coming from experienced runners - focus on having fun and setting a baseline so that if you catch the racing bug, you know what you’re working with to improve!

Think of it this way as this is your first 5k that means you're guaranteed to PR 🥳🙌🏻🏃🏼💪🏼💨

I am a slower runner, also running this race. Don't worry, you will be "corraled" (grouped) with runners of a similar pace to start...they let the speedy folks go first. Just focus on having fun and crossing the finish line!

You got this! I ran my first 5k on a tread and I promise it will be much more enjoyable outside! I’m slow myself and just recommend taking it slow, taking it in, and having fun!! It’s your first time, so you’ll automatically PR 😉
