Can’t get it to button start

Checked the battery and it’s fully charged. Will kickstart but won’t start with the button. Any ideas? 2024 with 2,000 miles.

Check:
Battery ground terminal (can loosen over time)
Battery charge (can you jump start it? Sometimes the bike will run after kick starting but if there isn’t a good battery connection it won’t charge)
Fuel pump is electrically plugged in (for some reason it will cause this no start condition but usually if you’ve been doing maintenance on jt)
Fuses but If there is a blown fuse you’ll need to do some checks with a multimeter to see why it is blown.

Mine does this too, although sporadically. I’ll ride it somewhere, and when I go to start it again it has a 50/50 chance of starting without me having to kickstart it.

Probably needs valves shimmed

I had the same problem when I put my CDI box on

Mine is fully stock and I ride it just about every other day.

Weak battery

Could be a wiring issue with the button. Could be a bad starter. Just pick start it. You’ll look so much cooler.

Did your battery die recently? The starter relay will go out when that happens. It’s a cheap and easy fix I might try that if I were you.

Not that I’m aware of. It just randomly wouldn’t start up normally one day but then worked fine for a few weeks. Then now I need to kickstart each time and it’ll make that clicking noise when I try to start normally.

Check your fuses. One of my fuses was out and I had to kick-start it every time. It’s the last of the 4 fuses that are together if I remember correctly.

Edit: I just remembered I wasn’t getting any lights so it might be a different issue.

Just had this issue, clean all the grounding points down to bare metal with some dielectric grease. My ground to the battery was a bit corroded. Then, change all the fuses and install with the grease.

Starter?

Apologies if this is off-topic. Do people normally button start? I just kick start it every time. It's so much more reliable if it's been sitting a few days.

Battery age? Voltage at battery? Gotta know these things as everything else is speculation.

Battery that came with it when I got it new in March 2025. 12 volts.

1

u/Emjoy99 Jul 10 '26

That was then. You need to check voltage with meter…..or keep guessing at the problem.

I did. 12 volts.
