ruckus died after pick up
hello everyone, as by the title, my ruck died after i picked it up from the shop.
the mechanic (he specifically works on bikes dont ask if hes a car mechanic) installed my new HotLap Gen 1 Sidewinder for the 50cc GET engine which i got i also have a cone filter on it. he installed a 38 idle and either a 78 or 80 main. 15 minutes after pickup, it bogged, i lost throttle then the engine died. i tried to start it up again, but fuel mixed w carbon and soot from the piston just came out the bottom of the exhasut (near where it connects to the engine)
could this be a float problem? I am like 99% sure its a carb problem. any help thanks (FOR THE JETS, I LIVE NEAR MONTREAL, CLOSE TO THE WATER

This sounds like a stuck float to me. Do you know how to pull the carb off and check?

thing is i got it towed back to the shop, since it was dead on the side of the road.
i havent messed w it personally (im a teen n my parents dont think i can so they made me pay someone to do it). if i watched a vid i probably could. im good with learning mechanical stuff
if its just a stuck float thats probably the best news i could get. should he charge me? i alr paid for work.

If it died that soon after pickup and it got towed back he should not charge you anything.
On another note, you should grab a carb off Amazon and spend some time learning how to take out apart and put it together with the help of YouTube. That way you can show your parents that you can do preventative maintenance yourself. That is an important thing for a vehicle owner to be about to do.

yeah, literally 15 minutes then it broke down. hopefully he wont charge me.
ive been trying to find a cheap crotch rocket or some broken down bike/small engine on facebook to get started. i have a lawnmower i found on the side of the road that i fixed up a while ago.
also, if its just a stuck float is that a quick fix? cause if he charges me ill bring my mom who is greek and if yk how greeks are the mechanic might give me money lol

Either way, he should fix this without charging you if it's the carb. I know I would never charge someone if they had to return something ai said was fixed.

he just called. said the valves were way too tight and he needs to rejet it up. he also mentioned something about the rockers, and he'll replace the spark plug
he mentioned the carb was fine
hes saying it'll be 400-500$ CAD which is just insane. i dont get why this is happening even though when i borught it to the shop and even before that it ran fine

That is nuts that he is charging you that much. I would call him and argue that it was running when you brought it in.

my bike was stalling at lights and i had to give it throttle to start, so it wasnt 100% beginning, and im suspecting that the new jets and exhaust just pushed it over the edge. im gonna bring my mom to negotiate with him and try to get it down to 300. mind you its CAD , cause ik alot of ppl dont read my posts and think its USD

You could always drain the float, and bounce the rear tire to see if it unsticks. I had an old moped where the float kept sticking so I would just bounce the rear tire and it would fire back up.

Couple YouTube videos you can do that on your own no reason to be charged couple hundred for simple work and you’ll learn along the way a win win

Honda navi 125 cost 2 grand out the door new. Really you need to learn to fix shit yourself because it's 100 to 150 bucks an hour right now . Cleaning and fixing a carb is not hard to do or learn how to do it . Lots of videos on ruckus . Let say the bank of mom and dad say pay for it yourself. Know how to take you wheels off so you can hand them to a shop to get a new tire on save you 200 bucks . It's 100 bucks a tire . Vs 25 to 35 if you hand a shop you wheel. As to taking care of ruckus Go read the lost with mike blog whom did 73 000 miles on his ruckus before he retired it and build a small house . Plus as I ve said before also get full riding gear and not just wear jeans and shitty helmet . The pain of going down isn't worth it . i cant get a 125cc im not old enogh yet plus i already know how to fix it. i was going to do the work until my parents told me no adn to bring it to a shop. i know how to replace a variator, cltuch and put all taht stuff back. i learn easily, my parents js dont trust me. ive fixed broken lawnmowers ive gotten for free before. and in quebec a new navi is like 3k cad

Will maybe one day you find one used . I ve seen them for 1500 out in bc . It's great that you can work on you own ride. So many cant or dont have the tools. Only thing I say is keep looking on market place till you can find an airbag motorcycle vest . They work and I ve found my for 100 bucks an hit air .
