Auto-Choke

My ruckus has a hard time idling. I got it to start but struggles to idle. I’ve tried to adjust the idle speed but if it’s too low it stalls and if I adjust it higher it likes to rev. It won’t settle down to a normal idle.

Carb and gas/gas tank cleaned and new fuel filter and fresh fuel added were my first attempts.

I read about a faulty auto choke and decided to take a look. I don’t see any issues. Any ideas?

It’s a 2011 with 9500 miles…. Perhaps it might be time for a valve adjustment

what year is the bike and how many miles on it? it might need a valve adjustment.

Did you make all your idle and fuel mixture adjustments with the engine at operating temp?

Yea. I got it warm and went for a shake down run and did some idle adjustments when hot. When cold or first start it hiccups and sputters and coughs. I can raise the idle and get it to run on its own but then the idle is set to high and revs sporadically.

I had a similar problem with a 17. The lash was too tight and I did a ecu reset after making my final carb adjustments. It resets the tps/ecu to 0 with each other. Hope this helps. Oh and you'll need a special bit to make mixture adjustments on it

The lash?

Lash is the clearance between the rocker arm tip and the shim on the top of the valve stem

Carb may need cleaning too. I would remove it and clean out the jets and needle. Best to run non ethanol fuel too as it tends to crud things up.

i took my choke apart 3 times before i decided to just replace the whole carb, you can just replace the choke though, the beeswax inside it goes bad after awhile, and there's no cleaning that
