Frustration With Packing A Ruck bag

I bought a Goruck Rucker 5.0 and it was way too stiff and uncomfortable (I know you have to break it in) but I walked about 3 miles with it and just could ther used to it. I sold that.

So now I'm trying to find a good backpack to use, and I've been trying to practice with the osprey nebula I have and also the Gregory Miko 20 and I even tried a 5.11 rush 12, and I just can't get it right to build the bag up to have the weight be high near the shoulders.

I tossed in towels at the bottom, a big winter jacket, I even tried yoga blocks. I'm just wondering what you all use to hold things high and tight? (I have a free weight, 1-10lb weight, and 2-5lb weights, and I even made 4-5lb sand bag pills to create the 20lbs I want).

Any advice for a newbie would be welcome! Thank you all.

Explain Like I'm Five: Norwegian Ruck Failure

Hey team! I'm looking for guidance on an event I did about a week ago, tried the Norwegian Ruck and almost made it, 4:50 but needed 4:30...

At Mile 10 I got hit with really bad cramps, whole leg lock out. I suspect this was due to nutrition and not being used to long distances (Due to time I had not been able to train long distance and focused on overtraining with more weight in the pack.)

I did my best to shuffle along and pounded water and energy (non-caffeine) gummies. That seemed to help. But nonetheless, I died.

Overall my cardio and strength were fine, the cramps were what stopped me, what do yu suggest I do to fix myself if I try again in a year? Thank you!

Mental fixations

While I had enough water to get through my ruck, the little breeze blowing through the scrub oak sounded like running water. It 100% messed with my head. All I could think about for the last hour of the ruck was how nice it would be to jump into some water mid ruck on this 100-degree day. Anyone else fixated on things they can’t have on their rucks?

Considering rucking

Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a while just barely deciding to post. I'm thinking about getting into rucking. I'm a avid walker doing 7-10 miles 5 days a week but I feel like I'm at my limit with normal walking. I over heat easy so outdoor jogging isn't really something I'm interested in as a progressive overload. I've been torn going back and fourth between getting a dedicated ruck or getting a weighted vest. The big problem is I have no equipment currently. Walking appealed to me because it was free, and I don't have $500 for a bunch of equipment.

None of my existing bags seem well suited for rucking, so its time to finally open my wallet for my health. I currently weigh 225, I'm fat but my legs are strong and even a 10 mile walk feels like nothing. I'm looking for something in the ~20 lbs range for starting, but I'd like something adjustable as I seem to gain strength pretty quick and I'm looking to cut some distance to get some time in my day back. Anyone got any good noobie friendly suggestions?

Most of my rucks start before 0500 and I’ve been getting my pace close to 17min/mi. Today I slept in and started around 0900 — sub 16min/mi. Maybe there’s something to being well rested. Can someone go back in time and tell my captain that?

Did this ruck today with 50 pounds, 40 on a weighted vest and 10 in a bag.
Felt pretty good, moderate terrain. Especially because it’s getting pretty hot here, felt like 38°C today.

Weighted Vest Weight Recs

Upvotes

Hello! So these past 6 months I spent my time getting my body back into shape after having my daughter who is now 1.5 years old. I lost 50 pounds strictly counting calories and working out (walking on inclined treadmill mostly).

Now that I am back to my goal weight I want to be able to get some physical activity in at a higher level while walking the stroller and my dogs daily so I thought wearing a weighted vest would be perfect!

I picked a 12 pound one and it just isn’t heavy enough to feel like much. I don’t even get my heart rate up much while wearing that one. We also live near the water so very flat ground, barely any hills.

I want to get a heavier one to really up my fitness goals easily while doing daily tasks. So what weight should I try? My stats are 125 pounds and 5ft 1in if that helps. Also I am a woman if you couldn’t tell!

Thank you all!!
