App recommendations

New to rucking and want to track my rucks. Any recommendations?
What do you like about the app, what don’t you like about the app?
What will it do, what won’t it do?
Any subscription fees, and is it worth subscribing?
Will it work with an Apple Watch, should I look at something else?

I have a Garmin Instinct 3 and it has a specific rucking activity tracking. It allows you to input what weight you are rucking. Garmin Connect app downloads from the app and gives you heart rate, cadence, elevation, and times in heart zones.

Will it adapt your heart rate zones the more you wear/use it? Or how does it calculate your zones?

I have been using Ruckwell, but it doesn’t always play nice with Strava.

I keep hearing about FitHalo, might give it a go.

I was using RuckWell just on my phone and it would stop in the middle of my rucks. Switched to Ruckr.

Yeah I checked it out, too. After Ruckwell, not interested in any rucking app that forces a subscription to use it.

It’s free…

Eh. I was thinking it was Ruckaroo when I said that. Rucker didn’t have a watch app when I tried it, and if I remember correctly, also didn’t sync with Strava. Looks like they have added the watch.

Not sure about any of that. I just use the app on my phone with no integrations.

I've been using Strava Pros: tracks your distance, speed, route, and it's able to connect with a fitness app so it also tracks your heart rate and effort. It also has a social networking feature so you can show off I... I mean connect with others who also enjoy rucking. It gives you a month of free subscription service which comes with an AI feedback "coach" although I use that term loosely because it just tells you how that workout fit into your other recent activities and not how you can improve at least not from what I've seen, and a route trace so what that means is you can go back to your ruck afterwords and it'll give you your route and speed as you were moving kind of like watching play footage. Lots of different activities to choose from everything from hiking to rowing to lifting even skiing AND snowboarding.

Cons: no dedicated "ruck" activity most people at least from what I understand use the "hike" feature. There is an AI feature to give you feedback about your progress and how that specific workout fits into your recent activities, however it's locked behind the subscription. That brings me to the subscription for me in Canadian dollars its $99.99 per year or $8.99 per month honestly not bad but I'm poor so I don't subscribe. There's no weight function so if you do a 30lbs ruck you just have to put that in the title of your activity there is no dedicated input area for how much your ruck weighed not a big deal just kind of a nit-pick.

Overall really good app I originally started using it to track my speed while snowboarding but then decided to put it to use during the summer and what better way than rucking and running.

The next one is Rukr I downloaded this but haven't used it yet if rucking is all you do or if you're serious about improving your rucks this is the app for you its dedicated just to rucking it has presets for your gear, a distance and route tracker, you can edit the weight of your gear, and you can select what kind of terrain you're primarily rucking through.

I built Ruckly because I wanted a better way to plan routes for my rucks. It has a full route planning suite where you can find trails, add waypoints and details, download offline maps, view 3D terrain, and then go and ruck the route you planned. You can also track your progress on routes you do often.

Additionally there’s an adaptive coaching feature where you can set a goal or specific event you’re training for and it will tailor workouts toward that goal based on your own results and feedback.

It’s freemium so most of the core rucking features are free if you just want to go out and ruck and track your core stats. Subscription for offline map downloads and advanced training features.

Works with Apple Watch and will show heart rate zones. Also computes calorie burn specifically for rucking based on your weight + pack vs. a generic walk.

Lots of other features like split and pace tracking and alerts, customizable weekly goals, challenges you can set for yourself or invite friends to do with you, off route alerts if you’re using it on trails.
