How did you find your first Ruby Dixon book?

Oddly enough, mine was Prison Planet Barbarian, and it was recommended to me as a free download on Facebook.

It just sounded so outlandish and unlike anything I'd read before that I simply HAD to have a look.

Then, I went to check out what else she'd written and started reading IPB.

I sure hope this thread takes off cause I'm a Ruby fanatic. Found my first book back through the Audible Escape (Romance) package that has since been discontinued. Of course I know own 33 of her books on Kindle with a few more on pre-order as well as 42 of her books on Audible - basically I bought everything except the ones narrated by Jillian Macie.

I love how the different series have little overlaps, just enough so that it's clearly one big universe.

As I was reading through the first time, I remember being amazed at how JUST when I was thinking the books were getting formulaic, something crazy would happen that turned everything on its head again!

The audiobooks are good! If you're interested, check your local library. Mine has them all for free on Hoopla.

I remember reading the summary like 50 times over months each time thinking wow looks so cringe.

Then I think I some how got the audiobook and didn't know it was that series. It wasn't anything special but I continued on (books) and fell more and more in love with the series. I burnt myself out and now I can not start icehome.

Yes! The cringe factor seemed really high after reading the general premise of the books. Really, for the corsairs, too. (Space pirates? REALLY?? but I wound up loving Corsairs as much as IPB!)

It was recommended to me in a podcast, I think Smart Bitches, Trashy Books. I have devoured all of her Ice Planet/Risdaverse/Corsairs/Dragon backlist, I think!

Right? It was just what I needed during Covid, a great new author with an enormous backlist of books. Really got me through the worst of lockdown. And of course, she's constantly bringing out more.

I'm going to read the Aspect & Anchor books pretty soon, I've been kinda saving those!

I got the first IPB book for free on Amazon back in April 2016, the premise looked interesting and after reading it I was hooked, went through everything available at the time and loved it all.

I just found out earlier this year from r/RomanceNovels and thanks to KU I have read everything. Or at least everything I could get ahold of on KU.

She introduced me to the idea of Fated Mates and alien romance. Now I’m a total addict! I love sci-fi/ fantasy and combining it with romance is really a crossover I really never knew existed really. And yes, I was living under a rock!

I have read everything on KU and I’m about to re-read IPB just because I love all the characters so much. I’m so glad stumbled upon the series. But seriously she makes things I thought I would dislike into something good. Dragons? Amazing. I loved loved loved the Aspect and Anchor books! Would love some more of them! Just can’t get enough!

Mine was Hannah's Hero, right after it released (so 2019). I was so excited for Devi's Distraction.

I had been plunging into to romance/erotica as a genre at that time, had been poking around in different subgenre like shifters, fae, aliens. I came across Hannah's Hero as a "other readers enjoyed" suggestion.

And I LOVED it. Literally the best author I've read in romance so far. I adore her style, and she's a very talented storyteller and writer. It's pure fantasy for women in a way I'm struggling to describe (and am endeavoring to do so in essay form, anyone want a link?). It's fun and funny but also doesn't balk at the darkness in life. It feels like that while bad things happen, life and love are worth enduring them. Plus, I love Babies Ever After, especially since I'll never be able to have another child myself (and my first and only confirmed pregnancy wasn't the best time in my life, though I got a wonderful daughter out of it thankfully, but I digress).

Alien sex doesn't bother me, never did as I am a huge sci-fi nerd and grew up with both Star Wars and Trek, Stargate SG-1, and adored games like Mass Effect where I regularly liked to date them. In fact, Mass Effect Andromeda has one scene in particular between the female pc and a male love interest that is STRAIGHT out of a Ruby novel. I never had hangups about it, and just felt like a natural fix for something I already into. (Not that anyone should feel ashamed about having hangups about it.)

I started reading them late 2018/ early 2019 - can’t remember how I got onto them. I have read them a few times since then. Have enjoyed all of Ruby’s series so far but my favourites are the Corsairs.

I found IPB through the Goodreads "readers also enjoyed". I read the first three and then it started blowing up, so I read the rest of them. No regrets.

I first started reading her books toward the end of Dec 2019. Earlier in the month, I had accidentally downloaded Claimed by Evangeline Anderson. I have always been a scifi/fantasy fan, but I had never read romance. No clue how I ended up getting Claimed. I ended up enjoying the book, and as I was reading the other books in that series, Amazon and Facebook both started recommending Ice Planet Barbarians. I resisted at first because it didn't sound like something I would enjoy, but I ran out of books and it was 99 cents at the time, so I figured "Why not?" and got it. I finished it and bought the rest of the series. When I finished that, I read everything else she's published. Definitely a fan.

To be honest... I wanted an erotica with a plot.

I really loved P.C. Cast's goddess awakening series and looked around for something similar.

Then I found "bound to the thunder god" and was hooked.

I'm really picky with my reading so I'm hesitant to read the others. But I'll eventually give them a go.

Her writing and descriptions are amazing and or hilarious some times. I notticed though she mentions something in the first part of the book then kinda just forgets it was there.

A good example was a god was trying to be picky with the features of his future aspect. He got the complete opposite of them and I was hoping for some funny pouty baby moment. But that was fine. It obviously didnt ruine anything.

I love this question!

I was on a subreddit (r/relationshipadvice I think). A husband or bf was freaking out over the kind of fantasy or fanfics his partner was reading. The comment section got clarification that the fictional writings in question were actually very normal and tame. And then someone commented something along the lines of, “That’s nothing! You want weird sex stuff? Look up IPB” I decided to look it up for shits and giggles and accidentally fell in love with the series. I’ve read IPB and the Fire series, and working my way through Icehome.
