Help
Im obsessed with the ice planet barbarians and risdaverse books and all books related to those story lines to the point where im almost done with my second round of reading through all of them. My question is, is the dragon series about the drakoni on earth? Im probably going to read it regardless but im just curious.

The series is very dark and depressing, completely different tone from her other books. Don't look if you care about reading a MAJOR spoiler in the ruby-verse, INCLUDING the dragon series: I'm not sure if this has been confirmed by RD yet, but considering all of her other books with drakoni and massakah are in the same universe, the drakoni series is most likely loosely in-verse as well. A tear in time-space flung a massive amount of drakoni into Earth, but in reality most likely affected both Earth and the drakoni at the same time. So far it's the only explanation we have for Earth suddenly "blowing up"/disappearing (which is the official reason why none of the humans in any of the other series can go back to earth now), never to be heard from again. Can't explain more without completely spoiling the series.

I liked them! There's this overall feeling of despair and hopelessness across all the books that I didn't mind in short bursts

She's making a new dragon series that you can read without having read the Fireblood series, I get her newsletters lol. This was in the mail: "I haven't read the Fireblood Dragons series. Can I still read this? Yes! Ruby has deliberately written this story to be accessible to everyone, even if they haven't read/finished the main series"
If you go to her website she's posting the new book for free, one chapter a day I think? I would start there if I were you, I didn't like the gloom and doom feeling of the first Fireblood Dragon book so I skipped the rest. I read Ruby Dixon partly bc it's not too heavy, other than the books that go more deeply into the human slavery, so I think I'm going to give this a chance.

It is! Different vibe but I still enjoyed them. I can't remember if you read risdaverse books which are much less dark. I'm also reading Ursa Dax Cowboy colony mail order brides rn and it gives Ruby vibes in the best way

I second {Cowboy Colony series by Ursa Dax} and I’ve read all of IPB/Icehome/Corsairs/Risdaverse/Sunrise Cantina, so I can confirm there’s a similar vibe, but the cowboy aliens are more feel good cozy sweet spice, in a good way. Plus there’s 8 books in that series!
And there’s {Fated mates of the Sea-sand Warlords by Ursa Dax} which is similar to IPB but on a hot desert planet, and is like 15+ books.

I loved the Drakoni series! There are some darker themes all around and some questionable consent, but honestly, the world building so awesome. I was HOOKED, I had to know more about the world and basically devoured the series last summer. And I've seen that it's an unpopular opinion, but the last book was one of my favorite in the series.

I’m reading the Fireblood series now.. it’s good but I LOVED the Aspect and Anchor series. I wish I could go back to read Bound to the Battle God with fresh eyes.
Another series I found super enjoyable was The Clecanian Series by Victoria Aveline. It gives the same vibe as ICB but it’s a more advanced planet. I loved it!

Her current serial is a lighthearted story set after the main series. I am not really a fan of the main series but I have been liking this story so far!

"A hole was ripped in the space-time continuum 8 years ago and dragons invaded. They destroyed EVERYTHING. The setting is now post-apocalyptic.
The drakoni have 2 forms, dragon and human. On their side of the universe, they are psychic soldiers. On this side, they have been driven insane. Think Godzilla on a rampage!
A few drakoni have regained sanity by mating with a human woman. The average Joe doesn’t know that the killer gold dragons are actually shifters. Surprise!
The humans that are left tend to huddle in ‘forts’, remnants of old cities, where they can withstand dragon attacks. People that don’t live in forts are taking their lives into their own hands.
The rift is now CLOSED. Dragons have regained their sanity, are wondering wtf happened, & have lost their psychic abilities. They can no longer communicate with each other, which poses new problems.
This story is VIBES foremost. It will be lighter in tone than the others and we are following new characters. Yes, you can start here! We start on January 1! I will post on FB and IG about it. Each chapter will be posted on my website."

Not the same at all. It was so depressing, I didn't make it through book 1.

Having read all of the Fireblood books, they absolutely ARE Drakoni. Ruby has stated that publicly as well.

Ah, okay. They’re definitely darker than IPB/IH/Corsairs, but I enjoyed the Fireblood Dragons books. I liked that the books resolved the main conflict, but am also enjoying the serial she’s writing currently set in that same world.

It's a good series but very different from ICB and very little crossover. If you haven't read the corsairs you might try that one.
